This video also contains "Round" and "Bourée" but I couldn't fit it in the title lol! Did the very last track off of This Was and then the first three from Stad Up. What an entrance from Martin... That riff is CRAZY lol. Bouree did not go the way I thought it would.... Jeffery feels like an Aqualung "interlude" and I thought it was beautiful.

I went to see a concert in 1969 where there were three new acts that I had never heard of Jethro Tull was one of those acts. They opened their act with Nothing is Easy. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing and seeing. The other two acts were Fleetwood Mac and Joe Cocker. We kind of walked out of the concert in a daze.

The big change from This Was to Stand Up was the loss of Mick Abraham, the original guitarist and writer, and the addition of Martin Barre. Ian Anderson took over all creative/writing, so the band became strictly his musical vision. And how lucky we are!

As to Bouree, Bouree in E minor is a Bach piece that every student classical guitarist learns. Ian Anderson says that there was such a student in an apartment near his and he heard him practicing this over and over. He took the piece and jazzed it up and interpreted it for rock band and flute. Absolutely brilliant. Listen to the Bach piece sometime.

It was a A New Day Yesterday but a better day now you have reacted to these epic Tull tunes from Stand Up, 1969, again. Glad you enjoyed them. By the way it is pronounced as Lester Square, now-a-days.

Stand up is far and away the best Tull album in my humble opinion. Strange story, my fist job was with a Civil Engineer Consultancy in London as a trainee computer operator. I was a fresh faced eighteen year old and the secretary took me under her wing. I had been working there for about six months and happened to mention that I was going to the Albert Hall to a concert. She replies "oh my son is there too this evening" I said so he likes Jethro Tull too !. No she says, he plays bass in the band I was speechless, held her in absolute awe from there on. A great concert Procol Harum and Tir na Nog supporting, isn't life strange though.

I remember it well. I was in the Army when this came out. Oddly, my first exposure to Tull was Aqualung, so I had to work backwards a little. But I remember coming home on leave and going to friend's houses where this album would be playing while they were furiously breaking up a brick of weed, and making " Nickel Bags "😂😂😂

If you enjoyed Jeffrey Goes to Leicester (Lie-ster) Square, you'll get a kick out of Fat Man, the track after Nothing Is Easy, played on a balalaika, with very tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Every song on this album, and the next one, Benefit, is a gem.

Here's the original Bourse. I believe Bach originally wrote it for flute, harpsichord, viola and violin, but it's most mostly interpreted as a piece for classical guitar: At some point since you have a lot of Tull under your belt that you listen to the live album BURSTING OUT (1978). Their version if A New Day Yesterday knocks it out of the park and even if you don't know every song it's well worth listening to. There are even pieces written strictly for the concert venue like CONUNDRUM by Martin Barre, a killer instrumental featuring a killer Barlow drum solo. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4GxemV5eJWebKMsi=AUFmPR1mRqC6G7oO

New Day Yesterday is a blues-based valse macabre; "Leicester" is slurred into "Lester" -- like "St. John" is slurred into "Sinjon". From this point on, with the new guitarist Martin Barre, the band veered strongly into progressive folk rock and away from blues. The third album Benefit has a really well-integrated sound, they added a pianist and were heavy into prog-rock compositions
