I know it isn't quite right, but I prefer the last line to mean, "No one should lose their life waywardly" - meaning, since death is inevitable, we should choose our deaths as acts of heroic defiance and not just lose them randomly if we can help it.

There are some differences between the part you heard from the suite and this, namely the lack of synths, guitars and less drums. The one from the suite is like a scream of anger and sadness while this is like hopeless silence. Quite fitting to the context considering when this 2 music were used in the anime.

The song you listened to in emu suite (T:T is its name) is based on the final part of Vogel im Käfig. T:T came in 2nd season of the show, while Vogel im Käfig is from 1st season.

Interesting note on the different chords as I did not know that. You are right it is different from the suite, which was the season 2 version called YouSeeBIGGIRL/T:T. This one Vogel im Käfig is the original season 1 version, playing most notably in season 1 when the Female Titan kills Levi's squad in the woods and Eren transforms to fight her. Both Vogel im Käfig and YouSeeBIGGIRL/T:T have a different first half, which as you just heard the first half for Vogel im Käfig is hopeful with an angelic voice. The first half of YouSeeBIGGIRL/T:T is more orchestral and grand with synth. Both OST have a similar second have which you recognized, having a more sad and heavy melody. Some of the differences between them is the singers are different (Vogel im Käfig is sung by Cyua and YouSeeBIGGIRL/T:T is sung by Gemie). YouSeeBIGGIRL/T:T has more synth, guitar and drums in the second half as you heard in the suite, and the singer goes for more higher notes, making it more upbeat than the season 1 version.

This is my new favorite anime OST, attack on titan is a generational masterpiece im gifted to have experienced. But may i recommend the song "might*U" for My Hero Academia? That used to hit my heart like a truck, and i feel like it could hit the same feelings vogel im kafig does. Please give it a try if you havent!

@@cshell-m1m idk i kinda thought the whole arc about the war and royal family stuff was a bit out of the blue for a series I initially took as an "us vs. creatures" story. It's not that it did very poorly based on where they went, i just wasn't prepared to have a whole ass second cast introduced right after I'd finally gotten used to the first one lol. I thought it felt a bit stiff and bloated. Plus Eren's edgy ass just wasn't for me as a viewer. The rumbling and everything was just kinda his Death Note, and i can only handle so much of that before it gets insufferable 😂 Plus I'm not huge on unresolved open ends most of the time. "War never changes/the cycle begins anew" is a tired concept imo so it just felt like a cop-out. There are a few exceptions out there, but nothing about the world made me actually care that its still happening. They basically all deserved it and any of the characters i found redeemable in that aspect were either killed off or personality swapped into a drone by the end
