Thanks for highlighting this version...most reaction videos use the Old Grey Whistle version but this is even better

Irish tour 74 album. Walk on Hot Coals. Never heard anything like this on guitar. No Wah Wah pedal. No wammy bar just incredible use of volume control and harmonics. Quite simply out of this world.

I have a few albums by Rory after discovering him in 1980 during my wild life gigging as a drummer,a great guitarist vastly underrated, wild music for wild times and what a great backing band.

Rory live in the 70's was always THE best gig. Love the man. Rod D'eath was the drummer btw.

Probably longtime Rory keyboardist Lou Martin. Y'know what comes to mind whenever I think Rory: "Did you ever? ×?" 'Bullfrog Blues'. 🐸 Pure 🔥

The concerts they played in '74 that made up the album (and this documentary film footage) were important, from a cultural perspective. Those were dire times in N. Ireland - the "Troubles" between British troops and the IRA were boiling - and those shows gave his fans what was, for many, a brief moment to forget about them. He's revered by many of his country's people - for several reasons.

That was from the Irish Tour 74 album/video, not the Live in Europe album. The band was Rory (obviously), Gerry McEvoy on bass, Rod de'Ath on drums, and Lou Martin on keyboards.

This clip is from Tony Palmer's documentary on Rory during the Irish Tour '74, though it didn't make it onto the double album. Essential cuts from the album are "Walk on Hot Coals" and "Tattoo'd Lady".

And Rolling Stone said that Rory had mediocre musicians backing him up...they obviously never went to a live show. Had the great experience of seeing him 3x live...Lou Martin on keyboard. There's another version from the Old Grey Whistle Test floating around KZbin which looks like the Muppets play rock. :) Also, go look for the Band of Friends from Ballyshannon' Rory Tribute Festival--McAvoy is still killing it on bass, and their guitarist is playing one of the Rory special editions

👍 (50 year anniversary last year) Time keeps on ticking... Going through a box of old ticket stubs not long ago. I was blessed. My first rock concert: May 19, 1973 (lol yeah, I'm old, but still above the dirt...) East Tennessee State University Rory Gallagher ZZ Top $4 It was about two months before Tres Hombres came out. (Dusty Hill's 24th birthday, I came to find out on his passing) It was Festival Seating and I managed to get about 15 feet from mic center. Rory Gallagher was pure fire right out of the gate, and his band was phenomenal. (particularly Lou Martin on his electric piano) Rory was amazing to see play and I think that he had as much fun as anyone. Then, Billy Gibbons and the boys came out. Back when they were the most badass blues rock band that ever was. Straw hats, jeans, no beards (but Frank. lol), and BG in a white tshirt w/ pack of Marlboros rolled up in the sleeve(lol). Needless to say, Rory and Billy made a big impression on a 16 yr old. Blues rock, slide guitar nut ever since. RIP Rory, Rod, Lou, & Dusty. Thank You! Keep Rockin' Billy, Frank, & Gerry Openers...
