Nice reaction, Warrens biggest hit for sure.d Now that you have met Derrick Trucks another rabbit hole you must go down.Tedeschi Trucks, Midnight in Harlem, Gravity, Everybody's talking, Do them all live, and on Midnight in Harlem do the live version with an orange background.

Saw Gov't Mule this past February, and they played this song. I was so thrilled, as it's one of my all-time favorite songs. It was a great evening; my second time seeing Gov't Mule!

Derek Trucks, named after Derek and The Dominos’ Derek (Eric Clapton), the man who invited Duane Allman to play on the Layla album, is Butch Trucks’ nephew, so he grew up around the band and their myths and legends. The band considered the early music with Duane Allman to be sacred music, and the Legend of Duane overshadowed everything, so Derek, who was born to play guitar, decided when he was very young that he was going to play slide guitar in the Allman Brothers Band. I remember them bringing him onstage to play a song or two with the band when he was probably 8 years old, and he was already jaw-droppingly good. I‘ve never heard anyone play slide like him. When he was nineteen they formally initiated him into the band.

Love your reaction, especially when you first heard the chorus lyrics. And how this song inspired those further philosophical thoughts from you…spot on! And this is what the best songs and music do for us 👍

This is the video that introduced me to Derek Trucks. I wondered, "who's that young guy killing it on the slide guitar where Duane Allman once stood?" I went on to find out and have been traveling down the Tedeschi Trucks Band rabbit hole ever since - going to see them live for the first time in August. Can't wait!

From the album WHERE IT ALL BEGINS. The songs before and after it are real great rockers: "Back Where It All Begins" and "No One to Run With." Both written by Dickey Betts, the second one co-written by John Prestia. These are two marvelous songs and you will love them.

There was a short period in the summer of 2000 when Warren left ABB, and they brought in JIMMY HERRING as the 2nd guitarist....That to me was the DUO Trucks ever played with. There was and is something very special in the Chemistry between those two. There is some live footage of Herring playing with ABB, both video and audio. Jimmy Herring is a different breed. Herring also said Derek is one of his main influences, even though Herring is 17 years older!

Shout Out to Marc Quinones on Percussion . Marc was with the band for most of the years after the Dreams reunion tour spending some 25 years with the band . His added percussion just added a perfect flavor to the band in a live setting . Do yourself a favor and simply sit down & watch all of the Bands 2003 LIVE at the Beacon dvd . It perfectly encapsulates this version of the band during the Annual "Real March Madness" run at the Beacon Theater . One of the advantages of living in the NYC area like me , I'd go to at least 2 shows and usually 3 every year during the run . You get spoiled being a NYC area ABB fan as this was their "Home away from Home" . (BTW Oteils name is pronounced O - teel )

One of the greatest joys of the Allman Brothers Band regardless of 60s to 2010s was the "jam" aspect... Warren and Derek could easily have taken that song another 5-10 minutes along and the rest of the band would have just come along for the ride! It's those little clues of breaking down to wrap up a tune that they just ALL know OR...OK we're jammin!

Check out the Tedeschi Trucks Band - Derek and his wife Susan Tedeschi (who is a killer guitar player in her own right, and great soul singer) band. Check out live versions of "I Want More", "Let Me Get By", "Bound For Glory". You get the full band sound with horn section and back-up singers. "Midnight in Harlem" is a great song, but not really indicative of their full sound.

Awesome song. Great live performance. Recommend you listen to the original studio version from 1994. The interplay between the twin lead guitars (Dickie Betts/Warren Haynes) is better even than the slide/lead interplay (Trucks/Haynes)) in this performance. Imo. Maybe it’s just that the version one hears first is the one that gets imprinted; it takes a whale to displace it.
