OPENING BAND/SINGERS: OP 1: Hiroaki Tominaga (aka "Tommy") TOMMY is a Japanese singer and the vocalist of the Japanese rock band BLUFF. But I believe this was made without his band. OP2: CODA Coda is a Japanese singer-songwriter, composer, and sound producer also not performing in a specific band for the opening. OP 3: JIN is a Japanese singer and vocal trainer. OP 4: This opening combines all the first three singers so Tommy, Coda and Jin into making this creative opening! this trio got named THE JO☆STARS. OP 5: THE DU is a Japanese band created for performing "Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town". OP 6: Batta is a Japanese 4-person Rock band who performed "chase". OP 7: Daisuke Hasegawa is a Japanese performer, usually playing electric guitar or choral singing. He performed "Great Days", the 3rd opening for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable, alongside Karen Aoki. OP 8: Coda is back at it again with "Fighting Gold"🔥. OP 9: Daisuke Hasegawa, back at it as well now performing "Uragirimono no Requiem". OP 10: ichigo is a Japanese singer and the lead vocalist of Kishida Kyōdan & The Akeboshi Rockets. She performed "STONE OCEAN" Also yes the variety from the openings really embodies how much variety there is in this crazy bizarre and unique show that is called JOJOS! so good!

One thing that's really interesting about the way these songs are composed is that a lot of them take influence from when the actual story was written/takes place. For instance, the second opening has a lot of really strong trumpet and jazzy/swing-y sections, probably because the story starts in 30s New York. Stand Proud and Sono Chino Kioku take place in the 80s and the author is a big fan of American rock and metal, so both of those openings are metal dominated by intense guitar work and bass. Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town has 2 versions: a funky, almost disco groove, and one that you described as having a boy band vibe. That's pretty accurate, because it was written in the early 90s and takes place in 90s Japan. That's a time period where music was transitioning from a very flashy, heavily disco-inspired era brought on by an economic boom and shifting into a more 'modern' (for the 90s lol) sound of boy bands and J-pop stars. Fighting Gold and Uragirimonono take place in 2000s Italy, and although that's modern, there's a lot of classical Italian scenery at every turn, so both of those songs end up featuring a lot of classical instruments and sound. Stone Ocean takes place in 2011 and it takes a lot of inspiration from Japanese alt rock that was really typical around that time. A side note, though I know I'm pretty late to the punch and people have already listed the performers for each song, but I want to add a tidbit that I'm not sure anyone else brought up: there was a special version of the Great Days opening performed by *every* vocalist that's done a JoJo opening, under the group name JO☆UNITED. It's gotta top the original for me. It opens with the first verse being sung by the guy who did opening one, second verse by vocalist for opening 2, etc, with the entire group coming together on chorus and closing. It's a great piece of music. It was also the full 4 minute piece of music rather than the 2 separate and shortened anime versions (which are different segments of that original song), and it makes it feel so compositionally complete compared to listening to the 2 abridged versions separately.

Answering your question: yes, there is a LOT of variety in the show itself as well. Mostly because each season is it's own story with a different cast and completely different vibe to the previous one. From 19th century England and a road movie set in the middle east all the way to a mafia story set in Italy and a serial killer mystery set in a small Japanese town - you name it. And during each season there are several arcs that can also be wildly different in tone to one another. Not to mention heroes and villains, who do not follow the typical infinite power escalation trope, but instead their abilities get more and more unique, inventive and wild. And most of the time heroes win by outsmarting their opponents. And all of that is stuffed with a very unique style and sense of humor. The author of the manga, Hirohiko Araki, never lets things go stale, as if his life depends on it or something. After the 6th part he even rebooted the whole JoJo universe and now he's rebooting it again XD

It might not be my favourite shonen anime, but my favourite shonen anime for sure took inspiration from it. The earlier parts still stand up today, even when originally written a time where manga was dominated by big buff dudes who only won because of physical strength and not much training. Hell, even though each part has its strengths and weaknesses, I think it has only improved over time. How it has kept running, and grown even more consistently solid, is mental. Jojo's jumps around in tone, setting, timeframe and characters so much I think every person can love at least one part. Of course I, like many others, appreciate all the parts (even if I do have my favourites)!

Usually I don’t like it when people pause partway through songs, but you do it in a way that I can appreciate, even if I prefer an uninterrupted watch through, you manage to pause and rewind in a highly efficient and flowing manner unlike the usual disjointed starting and stopping I usually have to avoid, it goes to show you have a good ear for the whole progression of the song. I’m also quite pleased to hear the opinion on the more minor details of the songs that few of any ever pick up on, I’m not too well versed in music myself but I have a type of sensory disorder that allows me to differentiate between pitches, keys, etc better and even allows me to pick up on frequencies that are slightly higher or lower than the average person can and it’s nice to see someone else acknowledge those sorts of things. Lastly, the second to last opening you watched has 2 alternate versions to it, they are mostly visual differences but the the third variation (which is called GER version) has much more orchestral backing to it near the end, not sure if that’s worth a video but it’s probably worth a listen to if you’re interested. Overall amazing job and keep up the good work, I’m subscribed now.

I think one really cool fact when you said that the drum player reminded you of Ringo is that the name "JoJo" for the main character was actually inspired by a Beatles song, “Get Back”. Also, in a later part on the manga, there's a character called "Ringo Roadagain" which is in clear reference to Ringo Starr and also to the song "On The Road Again" by Willie Nilsson. Araki(creator of Jojo's) loves music and really enjoy to put his litte references on his works, what is also funny cause JoJo's became one of the most referenced manga on history. Even some Street Fighter characters and scenarios are based on JoJo's characters and scenarios.

The name Jojo isn't from the Beatles song that is a common misconception that is spread around because it just fits the music reference. The name "JoJo" originated at a Denny's where Araki and his first editor, Ryosuke Kabashima, had their first meeting pertaining to the series. The two had decided on "Jonathan" as the series' protagonist, however, Araki also wanted the initials to match in a way similar to the filmmaker Steven Spielberg (S.S). They eventually landed on the name, "Jonathan Joestar" (J.J) and thus the nickname "JoJo" was born.

So another fun thing about Jojo openings is not just the attention to detail in the music, but also aligning the visuals with the music alongside foreshadowing the arc'c events. Watching Jojo and going back over the opening and realizing how the music and visuals hint at what is actually happening is part of what makes these openings so legendary.
@brandonmack15012 жыл бұрын
Also at 31:00 when you ask if the variety in the tunes correlates with the variety of the show, it very much does. Jojo is segmented into parts with their own setting s, characters, and villains each in a different flavor with them all being connected by the Joestar bloodline and some tie-ins from previous parts pushing a full narrative but not staying constrained to one main character or cast and constantly switching it up just like the ops
@FeministCatwoman11 ай бұрын
Yeah the subtle hints, symbolism, and foreshadowing in the openings are absolutely next level. Ceasar screaming and Joseph putting on his headband alone while letting out a shout, Jonathan closing his eyes, making way for both Joseph and Jotaro opening their eyes... The small star joining the others (Iggy), Jotaro moving his hand slightly when he's surrounded, such cool attention to detail without outright spoiling anything! Even the refusal to show Koichi's Echoes until it ACTUALLY fully hatches, just wish all openings were this good

Here's a really cool idea for videos: Once you watch the parts of the series when these openings are playing, go over them again and talk about how the choice of music composition conveys the themes and emotions the current narrative of the story is trying to convey. You can do this with Attack on Titan or Jojo's, both would be REALLY interesting watches.

Yes, each part/season usually has a completely different tone and/or genre, so it makes sense that the openings do the same. And yes, this takes place in the "real world", different seasons usually take place in different time periods and countries, but the setting is generally somewhat recognizable and real even if the show itself is very supernatural. The source material constantly references music classics, and it feels like the people behind the show wanted to do it justice and have the best music possible.

This is exactly the type of video I need to listen to and pass time at work. Fun fact about the 4th opening is that it’s a collaboration between the 3 different artist of the previous openings. It wraps well with the story itself as a resolution to a rivalry. One of the reasons each of those songs is so different is because JoJos is generational, each season has a new “Jojo” or main character from a future generation, and with each generation obviously there are cultural differences, which is captured with these songs.

So yeah for End of the World it's 3 previous singers for the first 3 openings singing that song. Then one of them, Coda, sings for another song, the Fighting Gold. Some of the openings (endings too) have variations when a major plot point is revealed in the story, the characters "disrupt" the opening sequence in almost a breaking the 4th wall manner. There's actually another TWO variations of Traitor's Requiem that is not included in the video you watched, which alters both the visuals and the music a little bit (symphony at the end). 30:53 yes! The show is divided into parts. Each part has its own protagonist and settings. Every parts are connected, yet feel different than the other. Anyway, I enjoyed our reaction so much, I don't mind the pause because I want to know how someone who knows music breaks the openings down from the musical standpoint. My favorites are Bloody Stream, Great Days, and Stone Ocean. Also when you eventually watch the show, make sure not to skip the openings in case new variation happen 😁, cheers mate.

Oh trust me when I say the show is the king of variety. Each part takes place in a different place, different era, with an entirely new cast of characters and even all the protagonists are different for each part, though they are part of same family lineage, and whenever we get to see a character from an older part it's a treat since you get to see how the passage of time has affected them. The power system itself is one the most unique and fleshed out in anime allowing for the characters to have hyper specific but at the same time possibly reality bending abilities that all depend of the character's ability to use and abuse them in creative ways, this turns each battle into a puzzle as each character tried to figure out the other's abilities and weaknesses without revealing their own to gain the advantage. Not to mention the author's incredible sense of culture seeping through every scene, with innumerable references to music and pop culture of the time each part was written in. There is no more fitting series to the title "bizarre" than JoJo's.

The reason why there is 2 versions of some opennings is related to the appearance of the main antagonist of each part, so I would recommend you to not focus on them too much because they will show you HUGE hints and details, thru the images and the music itself, about the antagonist ability and power, so keep them until you start watching the episodes. And thank you for this great video.
@diobrando82172 жыл бұрын
15:30 The reason there's a lot of feel changes is because that opening is sung by every singer of the previous opening together, even though most of the opening they sing at the same time, you can kind of separate where each of their parts begin. 13:36 - 15:23 sung by the first opening singer 15:23 - 16:47 sung by the second opening singer And the rest is either the third opening singer or every singer combined to make a cool effect.

Fun fact : the original comics span decades (from 1987 till today) and the openings were written so that they would reflect the popular anime opening styles from when the comic for each season was released; hence the variety in genre and vocal styles of the songs, so that people could feel like they were watching something that actually came out in the era of that particular season. Big brain writing indeed.

The sheer joy on your face with those intros really goes to show just amazingly well put together they are. More than two paragraphs ever could. Amazing content. =)

The most beautiful thing about JOJO's openings is that the visual range, the frames are just perfect not only for the rhythm of the song or the beat, but also for the vocals at the same time. This is a perfect synergy of image and sound. I am a fan of this anime and for me a distinctive feature is not only music, but also references to popular culture, since the creator of the original source is a fan of American bands such as Aerosmith, Deep Purple and many others. For the ending, the composition Roundabout of the YES group was purchased.

jojo is that art work that I would love to forget just to experience it again like the first time. Everything about the feels, the story, the characters, the musics, the themes... everything is amazing, every opening is unskippable and unique just like the parts of the anime/manga, everytime I hear to these ops I get goosebumps

Watched that whole reaction. I have listened to these openings probably over 30 times, but still your commentary made me hear certain things I didn't hear before. Great Reaction.
