Stephanie Nicole Hello Beautiful, I just purchased some 'Skin Rejuvenating Pads" by Dr. Jeannette Graf MD. she's on HSN and also has an office in NY. it says BHA on this product but I haven't been able to find where it reads the amount of BHA. I don't have the product yet, I ordered last week. but I've looked online and unable to find. I am 50 and just started 5 yrs ago taking better care of my skin. smh. Are you familiar with her hun? Thank you so VERY much for all you do for us. I have spread the word to my niece and daughters about you bc of you being so informative, your honesty, and blunt sense of humor. Lol. LOVE IT! Jennifer Saha you should use the good genes first and then the oil. if you put the oil first then it won't let the good genes penetrate. I'm 22 as well with combo skin and I've been using good genes only when I need it. for example I'll use it everyday for a week if I'm getting break outs that week or if I'm trying to fade hyperpigmentation. sometimes I'll use it for a few weeks straight day and night if my skin really needs it.

I am so glad you brought up Paula's/Beautypedia reviews because I always go there to see their opinions on products but I am becoming exceedingly confused as they give certain products low ratings but people who use those products and review them say the product is great. Yes, they push Paula's products and they are bias and it's a shame we haven't got somewhere to go for truly honest reviews from someone who has knowledge and experience to give their opinions on the ingredients in products. Sometimes they mark products down due to them being very expensive and because you can get products containing the same products but for cheaper. I wish you would make a website like Beautpedia :( lol
@leann8488 жыл бұрын
I've never trusted Paula's Choice personally. I know she is considered a go to resource, but I found she had a lot of personal biases on products, brands and pricing that really bleeds through into how she judges a product outside of whether the ingredients or formulation will actually work for someone. When she started hyping her own line all with perfect reviews, she lost any credibility with me whatsoever. All the negative reviews and product bashing seemed to be a way to get name recognition and use that to launch her own line.
@sophiecaroline5587 жыл бұрын
But if you would create your own skincare line, filling the products with only good ingredients because you know what works for most people and what doesn't and because you want to be able to stand behind your products, why would you then rate them something less than five stars? I mean, that to me makes no sense. What i understand is that other products might get lower ratings due to their pricing or fragrance, essential oil stuff like that, when people seem to rave about them. But the thing here is that i would always, always, always read their expert advice to see what they based their review on and then go do my own research and think about how the price or some fragrances bother me. I find myself thinking "well to me it's worth the price, or well my skin is not that sensitive i can handle those essential oils". Everyone's skin is different, right? So to me its just a nice inspiration and an informative platform. Hope you all are doing well, greetings from Germany (sorry for my English!)

I have sensitive skin, and it used to be super sensitive with an extremely damaged skin barrier. When it was really bad, Good Genes would tingle a bit, but then it would be fine and my skin looked so much better. Now that my lipid barrier is healed, it doesn’t tingle at all. It just makes my skin look incredible! It’s amazing and it’s more than worth the price.

So happy to hear your opinion on this. Good Genes has made the biggest difference in my skin of any product I've ever used. 25 year old here. Almost 26. Started to get dullness in my skin that no amount of moisture/masking/toning was fixing. Originally tried physical exfoliants but found them far too irritating. Good Genes has really been revolutionary for my skincare routine. I actually prefer applying it during the day as I don't wear foundation on a daily basis and I like the slight pore filling I get from the silicone. I like to leave my evening routine for just soothing moisturizing products. The luna night oil is also lovely, but not quite as much of a revelation for me as Good Genes. There are a lot of facial oils that I enjoy.

I bought the good genes (small flash fix size) based off of your recommendation as well as promising reviews. I am so grateful that I did! I struggle with problematic skin due to having discoid lupus. It has done a number on my already sensitive skin on my face. The sun has left me with scarring and spots and uneven skin texture regardless of how much I soak in SPF. The good genes is amazing! It literally smoothed my textured skin, not completely but dramatically in a couple of days. I will definitely be budgeting for the full size bottle along with the Luna night oil. I can not thank you enough for your channel, the time and information that you put into it has changed how I look at beauty products and skincare. Thank you a million times.

I just wanted to say that as an organic chemist, I really appreciate your strong understanding that everything is a chemical whether it's natural or not. thank you for taking out the time to do this - I really needed to know the difference between them and came to the same conclusions - I used the drunk elephant and you are right works wonders for my oily skin but for my sister's dry/combination/sensitive - it doesnt. Sunday Rileys good genes havent tried but hope to buy soon but thank you so much for doing this video And thank you for answering my questions about the whole fragrances - it wasnt just paulas choice that actually stated about the fragrances - I literally found a blog that I cannot freaking find due to my computer updating and restarting ok whatever but that states the blue tansy oil is a collagen breakdown and that there are no recent articles or past for that matter that have stated that this is a great topical oil so that is my concern and the ingredients from that one ingredient also go downhill so that was and is the concern. And you are not a lowly person, people actually know you and you will get more subscribers soon because you literally dedicate your time into every review and product so thank you and thats something none of these "beauty gurus" do

I totally agree with you on Paula's Choice reviews - while they are helpful about certain ingredients & skincare practices, they have enough flaws so that everyone should approach the Beautypedia reviews with a grain of salt and form your own opinions. For years, I felt the employees who wrote the reviews often exhibited the "a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing" problem. They seemed to overreact to the tiniest bit of certain ingredients in the formulation, such as alcohol, or would give low scores for a foundation if it contained spf less than 30, while giving foundations with zero spf a separate category. That is stupid - the foundations with lower spfs should be reviewed in the same zero spf category with a disclaimer that you need a separate spf. Foundations do so much more than provide sun protection - they can even skin tones, help mattify or moisturize, cover hyperpigmentation, etc. People who have a lot of skin issues, especially less "common" skin tones, have to balance a lot of of things within the few choices available. It's a major disservice to give an entire line of one foundation 1 star for containing an spf of 8 or 15 when it is otherwise the only option for people of certain skin tones with sensitive and acne-prone skin. I also don't think they really pay attention to pore-clogging ingredients and will give max stars to foundations that contain sodium chloride, which is a well-known pore clogger and may cause acne, which is SUCH a nightmare for people who deal with it regularly. Two final things that you mentioned have always been a problem for me - 1: the fact that they sell their own products provides an irrefutable, built-in incentive to overrate their own products and perhaps selectively harshly grade competitive products. They are a profit-making enterprise because the actual ingredients that go into making some of their most expensive products are not expensive, but they have chosen to price them moderately within the same ballpark with their competition. If they were a philanthropic non-profit existing only to help humanity's skin care problems, they could offer for $12 something they price at $40. Last (2): They don't understand the nature/politics of research and funding for it. So there might be excellent ingredients that may not have published research because universities and research facilities can not get funding for it (been around too long and you can't work toward a patent for it, for example) and funding totally determines what gets researched. Sorry i wrote so long on this but I just wanted you to know I agree with you and why, even if we seem to be in the minority on not gushing over Paula's Choice reviews.

+jcjccmz I completely agree, if you have a reviewer going "well, this product sucks but try mine it has all the beneficial ingredients in it" yea, you will get a little suspicious and if you dont well, then you should - I dont know much about foundations due to me not exactly loving makeup but I love skincare and beautypedia for example reviewed josie marans tinted moisturizer with spf 47 as a top priority well here is the problem, they are completely against fragrances and here is the thing about fragrances - when a company labels fragrances as their ingredient so not only are they pumping it with a smell they are also pumping parabens and whatever else that the new hype is against so why did josie marans product get a best star again?! But then again they do use parabens in their products so... I question everything and I do my own research also which is why I love Stephanie - she knows her stuff. And you are right if paulas choice is making a great product thats out there on the market then please make that affordable and dont get me started on their hypocrisy over eye creams at first oh you dont need it just use a moisturizer and then they went and created one - that to me is a red flag. Which still makes me question do I need a damn eye cream?! Lol I could go on sorry but you are right
@jcjccmz8 жыл бұрын
+Radmila Domingo Exactly - and I bet their eye creams are not cheap. Like you, I could go on too, but I just think people need to take what's in beautypedia with a grain of salt. I mean so what if Paula's Choice is now a separate company from Beautypedia? I'll bet they are still in the same offices or same building and the paychecks are ultimately still coming from Paula.

I really like the DE framboise serum but just like you said I have extremely oily skin so it really works for me but I'm going to buy the new SR oil for acne prone skin it looks like a good one!

I'm an oily-skinned person in my 20's, and I love AHAs and BHAs for my routine. I use them to treat acne, reduce pore size, and to exfoliate my skin. I love your thorough review on these two products, and do have to say that the Elephant one appeals more to me due to the inclusion of the BHA, so I can get double duty out of my chemical exfoliator. I currently use the Paula's Choice Resist AHA/BHA, and I don't get any sort of burning sensation from that one.

I love your videos and truly trust your advise and knowledge on skin care. I wondered what products you might recommend for combo skin to help with fine lines and wrinkles and reduce pore size. I am 40 and finally have really realized my skin care is important. I use the Drunk Elephant night serum and an oil but I feel like there is more I could be doing. thanks for all your information you give!

Thank you excellent review. I have to agree with you about Paula's Choice almost every product they review are done negatively so I don't bother reading her reviews anymore. I saw Sunday Riley with Sam and Nic - Pixiewoo sisters talking about her products and was interested in them. Then I watched makeup by Tiffany skincare tutorial and she raved about the Sunday Riley Lunar Sleeping Oil and Good Genes. I decided I had to try them. I have pretty good skin but noticed some dark spots creeping in on my upper cheeks (pigmentation) so I went twice to to Sephora and got samples of both Lunar Oil and Good Genes. Have used them for 4 nights together and have today seen a difference in my skin with pigmentation - lighter. Obviously I am going to purchase the full sizes. It's a dramatic difference, I didn't believe the review at first but now I am. I must also add that I have sensitive skin but together the products so far has not caused me any problems. Keep up the good work and thank you again for you honest reviews and thank you Sunday Riley for your excellent products

Brilliant review. It's the kind of data I need to help me decide which one I want to buy based on my skin concerns. I wish KZbin had more of this instead of pushing products on us. Your advice is so appreciated.

I have missed your videos while you were gone so I caught up on some more older ones! Two in one day is a treat thank you! I have been excited for this one especially since I just started taking better care of my skin. I am so curious about skin care products now, and everything I have bought based on your recommendations have been working wonders for me.

+Stephanie Nicole I had wanted to try Sunday Riley products for awhile, but they are pricey and I wasn't sure if it would help my specific needs. After watching your skin care videos I got them, and also quite a few of the other products you use. I'm now much more focused on my skin care, instead of just covering it up(which never looked good). It's only been a few weeks, but my skin is loving it. I can't even remember when my skin felt or looked this good. I've struggled with it for so long, but everything is so much better already. Even my adult acne is clearing up. I can't thank you enough for doing these videos!

I'm so glad I found this video, I have recently purchased both of these but have been mainly using the Good Genes so far. Your video was so informative and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of detailed info and links you provided in the description bar. It's not often you find that, and I truly appreciate the time it must take to provide that amount of detail. Needless to say, I'm a new subscriber of yours and I look forward to looking through your videos to get more educated on skin care. Excellent video, I really enjoyed it.

Your dedication to research and quality information shows in every video. I was anxiously waiting for this one (love the thumbnail!). You give enough information so that your viewers know not only your opinion and what works on you but also how to make the best choice for their own skin. Your videos offer so much more value than those of the "hey, company A sent these to me for free so you should totally go buy them!" type.

I have to say after watching your skin care and this video I'm interested in these products. I'm getting close to 30, with dry acne prone skin. North east Ohio winter makes my face feel dry/dehydrated. I just alway worry about the "purging stage". Like I need more break outs. I've been loving your videos the most because you actually talk ingredients, performance, and results. You clearly know what your talking about. Thank you!!! 🙂🙂🙂

I am dry and sensitive, but when I used Sunday Riley both good genes and Luna oil every night for 3 days. I broke out so bad that I had to strip down my skincare. But with the drunk elephant it works great. But I love Sunday Riley's C.E.O oil cleanser is amazing. Oh and you were so accurate, good genes, felt like I wanted to rip my skin off. Glad I found your channel.

I agree with everything you said. I love the Good Genes product. I don't mind the smell at all. I don't like perfume smells in skincare. I have noticed a huge difference with this product, and it makes my makeup go on so smoothly! I read Paula's Choice reviews too, and the customer reviews were extremely positive.

Another video that was so helpful for me! I just discovered your channel today and I'm so glad that I did! I love that you know the science behind ingredients and help us understand what's really going on. I love learning about things like this because I don't have a background in makeup and skincare sciences. I love that you encourage people to read, find information, and make judgements for themselves in your videos. I also really appreciate your down to earth personality and your honesty with each review. I know that I'm getting great content, learning more, and have your complete and total honesty. In a world where sometimes that can be a rarity, you my dear are a breath of fresh air! Over the coming weeks, I'll definitely be delving more into your channel and watching more videos. Thank you for all the effort that you put into your content. It is both noticed and greatly appreciated. -Kat
