One of the most interesting facts about Mayne is his prowess as an athlete. Before joining the military, Mayne was a champion rugby player and boxer, and his physical prowess and endurance would serve him well in his later military career. Mayne was also known for his daring and unconventional approach to warfare. He was known to launch surprise attacks on enemy positions and would often use unorthodox tactics to achieve his objectives. This made him a highly effective soldier, but it also earned him a reputation as a maverick who was difficult to control

@Ginger Jesus actually, your 'history' is completely fake. You invented yourselves in the 1600s. Prior to that nobody knows where you came from.

@Ginger Jesus That's awesome cause I'm part Irish and I didn't know the difference. I knew abiut Northern Island but not the name for people from there. Thank you for teaching me.

@GingerJesusSaves”there wasn’t an Irish bone in his body” …… strange then that he played rugby for Ireland, and the people from Britain (England, Scotland, Wales) called him Paddy.

Paddy Mayne would be more British than Irish considering he was born into a Protestant Northern Irish family.

Most Protestants North & South seen themselves as Irish, not British, until the run up to the troubles. They were Unionists but didn't renounce their 'Irishness'. Edward Carson, the Godfather of the UVF was a Dublin-born Irish speaking GAA player who said multiple times how proud he was to be Irish.

Mate my granda used to say that being called Irish by English pilots would annoy him enough to end up in a scrap

Exactly. He was an Ulster Scot. Not Irish. Protestants in Ireland are British people. Descended from English and Scots ancestors.
