Some of my fav' things about this movie are the tackle of cliches in passing with the fact she doesn't just like cheerleaders (lol) but she really really adores cheerleading. You do you, girl. And also the outburst of the girl with the mohawk that is actually straight and no one believes her. I love myself a good kicking of cliches. And it was in 1999. When I see today people that still think stuff like "that this dude can't possibly be straight with the number of times he touches his hair", etc. I want to punch something. I was only about 2 and a half in 1999 so it wasn't my first lesbian movie. haha xD

Agreed. This film is old now (esp in times of LGBT movies) but shows such a nice spattering of "stereotypes" and people that defy the stereotypes. Just shows how they can all be and look different, because being gay (or straight!) doesn't mean you fit into one box.
@marQP27 жыл бұрын
It's why I really dislike labels such as "butch" or "femme" or anything that breaks down what kind of gay you supposedly are ou aren't... I don't even know what butch means. I've seen so many different people called butch so what the hell does that even mean anymore? There's still people, gay, straight, today that will find the way to look at you and think you don't look gay enough or that you can't possibly be gay, you are either bi or straight or with that look you can't possibly be straight with "that" look or I don't know what other crap... Do they not realise how genuinely stupid it is? Just leave people be. Plus it's not like you stay with one look you entire life...
@trixie21387 жыл бұрын
I think it definitely depends on how labels are used. Sometimes they can feel nice, like a cozy sweater. Other times it's like a straight jacket. But I do agree people can use terms in a really broad way. I've not seen many LGBT people that are picky on looks/labels but often if you're a feminine looking/acting woman or masculine acting/looking dude stupid straight people assume you "can't" be gay. I did have a really feminine gf once and more than one guy kept telling me she couldn't be gay and tried to touch her. I think a really good line that even reflects that is when Megan is at the safe house with the 2 old dudes and she asks them to teach her to be a lesbian and he says something like "there's no right way to be a lesbian, you just be you."
@marQP27 жыл бұрын
We do need labels. It can help makes thing less confusing and give you a sense of belonging. But it's also just a word that we shouldn't close the definition of, because everyone works in their own time and way too. A label doesn't have to be a closed box. If it was only those perv. I say pervs because frankly gay or straight no should always be enough. Even just the body language... You shouldn't even have to tell your sexuality. Just no should be enough. Those people just don't care. I am sorry you had to live that. Sadly some queer act like that too sometimes. I am thinking of a girl, she was with her girlfriend, both rather feminine or "femme" lesbian as she says(this label is also very weird to me because femme means women in my language so I read lesbian woman... lol) and it was a lesbian who said to them they couldn't be gay, that they were either bi or straight. The hell. That scene was great. And in the end it's what Megan did, she did what she loved and used her pom poms.^^

I came out to my dad 11 years ago and five of those years- we lived apart (because I was kicked out) then he came around and it was a bit rocky until he met my girlfriend (now wife) three years ago. I swear, their relationship is so nice to see. He loves me and my wife so much- it took time. So don't give up anyone! Everyone needs time to come around. Watching this video again because I love it too much. When I came out I was cut off and moved in with my first girlfriend to avoid homelessness. I made due and just focused on working and putting myself through school. Weirdly enough, I've had two friends whose parents met me and saw me as a very "safe" kind of gay, and they heard about my coming out drama and it really helped them accept their own kid's sexuality. The more we're ourselves the better we make the world for others. (Oh, and my parents are still coming around, but it's getting there because it's a process.)

Just as they were about to react to the cheer scene, I was interrupted by an ad that started off with "And that's how we do it, on the faaaaaarm." And started dying laughing.

I know it's because of *censorship* but I love how lesbian romance is like Victorian and the briefest touch is a declaration of intention.

I remember when I first saw this movie. I was working in a video store, had no idea what it was about and it was one of my first exposures to a homosexual relationship. I love that it follows all the same tropes as any other forbidden romance. it's adorable and heartfelt. I was a bit too young to understand the campy vibe but it grew on me. It remains one of my favorite love stories

This movie is great. I think I watch it any time I see it on a movie channel. The ending always makes me cry even though I know what happens. I do enjoy this series.

Haha I’m gay and my boyfriend and I watched this movie the other night. I held him while we both laid on my living room couch and we laughed together a lot. The ending when Megan cheered for Graham was so touching. It made us think of our own love that we shared as a couple ❤🏳️🌈👨❤️💋👨

holy crap, Tan's story at the end got me good. such great points, too, like the part that during an experience, you don't necessarily believe it will get better.
