I love that Jon is the only one that knows that Christmas is a pagan holiday adopted by the church

Well, yeah, it is based on pagan tradition. But Christmas is not pagan. It literally says Christ in it. As its celebrated currently, its a celebration of Christs birth. Yule is pagan, but thats not the same thing

Just to throw it his out there to Ky. Jon is correct. The holiday of Christmas used to be a pagan holiday that was changed to a Christian one. The two big winter pagan Holidays were Yule and Saturnalia, these were redone into Christmas. Other notable holidays that used to have Pagan Origins include New Year's, Halloween & Easter.
@RebekahDawsonHBIC

pretty much the majority of widely celebrated "christian" holidays all came from paganism, be it celtic paganism, norse or eastern european. Devils and demons did not exist in the sense that they were evil and to be feared, but as a representation of human nature. Personally I find it very sad that a whole and varied set of belief's were slowly dismantled and rearranged that now we have to remind people who celebrate these traditions where they truly came from (and then get called a devil worshipper - personal experience).

@@RebekahDawsonHBIC I agree, as a Scandinavian I also find it sad knowing (and continuing to learn) about how my ancestors' beliefs and culture were essentially "repurposed" with their original significance being erased.
@Hevensdragon
@Hevensdragon 2 жыл бұрын
I think the saddest part is that Pagan isn't even the name of the beliefs, Its just another word for heretic that Christians came up with and as no other name survived its now the blanket label now used to refer to those beliefs. As many of the beliefs were just local small town ones there is a good chance many things were just local traditions and they were not even treated as a religion at all, as well as that they may not even have been named in the first place. Also back then the literacy rates and even have the materials to leave a written account of information was only available to the rich or ruling class, so the only information we can go on is when others talked about them or word of mouth traditions that were passed down, sadly most information was lost to time do to this. But even if they had no name to now call them a word made by Christians to mean the religion of the peasants doesn't sit right. Also worth noting that term is still in use, earlier this year I found out that Christians label Shinto as a pagan religion because the national religion in Japan is listed as Christian when a Christian decided to spam me for talking about Shinto traditions. Which while Christian is officially japans religion few practice anything associated with it. The way religion is treated there is very different, there is a whole main and sub religion thing, most treat it as a second religion just tacked on, Its more of a "oh sure we will say we are Christian"

@SunSun-sk4si
@SunSun-sk4si 2 жыл бұрын
Alchemists in the general RPG terminology are much more tied to potions, whereas I _believe_ in Harry Potter they're more so tied to transmutation? I think the terminology in a historical sense also refers more to transmutation since it revolves around the idea of turning copper into gold. Both are valid perspectives, but I doubt that many people are pedantic enough to roll with the specific distinction in a game like Codenames; if you write Snape trying to avoid Alchemy, you're doing something wrong.

I want to like Ky, but the more I see of her, the more I see how judgmental she is, how she yells something repeatedly and then immediately denies doing it, how she almost intentionally ignores rules and then complains about not knowing the rules, and how she tries to jump on to anything and say that she was right all along even when she said the opposite thing less than a minute ago. I’ve noticed this especially in livestreams on AH, and on Jeremy’s channel. It’s okay to be wrong, and it’s okay for people to be different-please stop being so hateful and screaming over people and flinging false accusations at them, Ky.

I'm rewatching this and I still cant believe how much Sarah was against "alchemist" for "Snape". Alchemy and making magical potions are so similar. Plus, "well alchemy isnt real"? Its something people did do, so it is real even if it didnt work the way they wanted it to. And as if Snape is real? love and support Sarah though

idk if it's because Ive only ever seen Davin in completely different groups or if it's the tequilla talking but I have never heard him speak so much before xD also I have never heard of people age 26 being considered gen Z! that's 1995 you are talking about! The earliest year that I know of that might be considered gen Z is 97 I think. I would say 95 is like the birthyear of maybe the last millenials or something, not gen z though.... At least I don't think I can be considered gen Z and I am from 95

@sabrinaselby8360 2 жыл бұрын
I'm '97 and I think '95-'98 is kinda of a lawless place. Like if your the oldest sibling than you're probably more gen-z but if you're the youngest sibling than you probably got more millennial qualification but you can kinda just act properly and claim whichever one you want .

28:53 Tattoo’s should be artistic and meaningful, but I’ve seen so many similar ones, like the barbed wire tatt that way too many people have. Why choose to get something that is meaningless and that everyone and their brother already have?
@AllWIllFall2Me
@AllWIllFall2Me 2 жыл бұрын
The thing I would say there (while I agree that I have some level of judgment for people who do rather bland tats) is that just because a thing is common doesn't mean it isn't meaningful to that person. For instance, everyone has to deal with loss and grief, but those are still meaningful experiences. Further, we shouldn't forget considerations of price, artistic ability, and creativity: basic barbed wire is a cheap, it's hard for an artist to screw up, and it might be the only symbol/emblem the person can think of for their own history/the message they want to send. Some people 'just aren't that deep'. They want to show that they're tough, they know tough guys get barbed wire tats, they get a barbed wire tat. Would it be cooler if they got something more personalized? Maybe, but that's really more their choice than ours.
