What I really love about Starlight Glimmer (and reformed MLP villains in general) is she may not be a villain anymore, but she hasn't lost that snarky, edgewise attitude of hers, or her impatience and tendency to use magic as the easy go-to solution to even those problems that might require other means to resolve. She's redeemed, but not perfect, and I really enjoy her snarky quips. Especially when she and TRRRIXIEE! are playing off of each other.
@somedudewhodraws93773 жыл бұрын
I admit at first I was afraid she would go back to her old ways but the writers never made her back to the way she was before and reformed her properly over Seasons 5-9. In a way she kinda turned into another Twilight though she didnt know it at first. As alot of fans have pointed out that Twilights Celestia and Starlight has become Twilight in Season 1.
@somedudewhodraws93773 жыл бұрын
They are alike in a few ways as they are both snarky and can let their egos get the better of them at times. Starlight can be stubborn even though she has the best intentions she just dosent realize it until it blows up in er face though sadly. Trixie still has an ego problem but making friends with Starlight has made her more likable in a sense and even she admits she screwed up a bit to starlight. She still has an ego problem but its mellowed out since then as she admits to her mistakes now.

@lightning-bliss8 жыл бұрын
*Flops* Well thanks a bunch Doc... you just gave me a reason to like Starlight Glimmer. For the entire season I didn't know what to feel about her. I've been feeling like she's a forced character that we all have to accept because the writers, I thought...maybe were losing interest in the other mane characters. But now I see she's not that at all, she could possibly be that outside element of friendships where she's a complete stranger, with a rough past, and we have to accept her and move on despite those flaws or crimes she's committed in the past. I think that's one of the hardest things we all have to face, is learning to forgive and move forward. I know we can't always do that, I know I can't with some people because the crime or act was just too much for me to ignore. But at the same time even I can admit that I used to be that "outsider looking in" too. Sometimes I still feel that way, even with our inner circles. It's probably one of the reasons why I get anxious about my workload, because my work and talents is what first help me to relate to all my friends in the first place. If it dwindles, I fear that my friendships might as well? Silly I know, but I know friendships have to be earned too and not lose effort in keeping up with it. It's funny how so many things can wrap around the concept of staying social with others. Anyways, ya...think now I can finally start settling in with Glimmer offically now, she's got a personality trait I can now relate to, and the others are starting to fall in line too. I love Twilight because she mostly reminds me of my need to work and stay organized, to never give up and be a little nerdy and geeky on her journey. Apple Jack reminds me of my love for family and work ethic, to keep your word if you promise to do something etc. Rarity represents my love for creativity and never to settle. Pinkie Pie is my inner child who just wants to burst out and have fun. Fluttershy I admit reminds me of my own inner shyness, that everynow and then, there are times where I just want to shrivel up and apologize for any awakwardness I have. Rainbow Dash and I on the other hand don't have as much in common, if anything I'm jealous of her, because I don't have that inner confidence that she does. But I do have pride so i guess I can relate to that best. And now... Starlight Glimmer...a reprsentation of my outisder looking in, and learning to fit into the world despite past mistakes. Thanks for this vid Doc and amazing artwork by Ethereal Harbinger, you inspired me on some background designs! Also a lovely performace by Ashley H! *claps* ^^

Starlight Glimmer is REALLY underrated. While not quite on par with Twilight Sparkle or Sunset Shimmer, Starlight is not deserving of the out of nowhere backlash that she's been getting all of a sudden. Everyone says that she's a marry sue, which is beyond false. A marry sue is someone who is perfect with zero flaws. Starlight was having trouble getting over her past mistakes much like Luna. The only difference is that unlike Luna, Starlight Glimmer goes the Sunset Shimmer route and at least tries to strive for a better future. She's not perfect about it, but she at least tries to have a better tomorrow. I feel like people just suddenly hated her because she was reformed. Why is being reformed such a crime? Why can't villains be given a chance? They say she got off scott free. However nopony aside from the mane six knew about her, unlike in "Rainbow Rocks" where everyone had a damn good reason not to trust Sunset Shimmer. The ones who did know about Starlight's evil past were those who look to help her. If the princess of friendship and the whole mane six can give her a second chance, why can't the fandom do the same?

Carl Bloke Its like any time there is a change or a new addition to MLP, the fandom sees it as the worst thing since Isis. I mean are things like Twilicorn, Equestria Girls, Twilight's castle, and Flurry Heart shameless and corporate? Sure. But as long as they are introduced into MLP in a way that makes sense within the context of the show, and are written in well, (which they are) then its fine.

I really enjoy the psychological look into her backstory, it amazes me how many people looked at her "flashback?" In the cutie re-mark and thought it was lacking, when it comes to shows like MLP that has a lot of effort put into the animation and writing I always look at the little things the word spoken in the lyrics of a song, ("you can't have a nightmare, if you never dream" still sends shivers down my spine when I hear it. ) or the way some pony reacts to something, with the way shows are written anymore it really pays to look at the details

I have to give Wolf credit. This, is probably one of the best AMWDW's yet. It tackles a subject that I do believe people have at certain points, and that it's used greatly with the character of Starlight makes it that much more..connective in a sense. While I wish it tackled the events after "No Second Prances" from this past season; I get that it probably was written well before "Every Little Thing She Does" and "To Where and Back Again", and that I am actually hoping that there's a sequel out of this, featuring both Starlight Glimmer and Twilight Sparkle having a session together. Although that is a hope, I do want to say that the Art style in this was rather great as Ashley H killed it with her voice work in the episode. At certain points, the script and the voice work conveyed Starlight Glimmers emotions rather perfectly. So, yeah; Props to all that was involved as I can't wait to see what you have in-store for Maud and Luna. ~Alex

You did it again, Dr. Wolf. Not only did you make me genuinely think about Starlight Glimmer as a character, you got to ME as well. I was actually crying at one point watching this. It IS hard letting go of the past and not feeling inadequate. Like... trying to live up to the greatness of someone who once stood before you. In terms of Starlight, I think it's interesting that she felt like an outcast HERE, and thus probably in the show as well, and the brony community somewhat treats her in the same way. Like an outcast.

I just thought of something. When you're talking about how you feel like Starlight towards the end, how you sometimes feel you're an outsider looking in and all that, it sort of reminded me of the struggles that Princess Luna went through. Despite her reformation and everyone forgiving her, Luna still felt that outsider's feeling, giving her conversation with Starlight in "To Where And Back Again, Part 1" a whole lot more relevance. Both Starlight and Luna have had similar pasts and I can honestly say it would be interesting to see the two of them interacting more. Other than that, great video as always, Doc. It's very hard to get rid of the past, but you have to realize that it is a part of your life and you can find ways to better yourself because of it. We should learn from our mistakes, but never forget what happened or why we changed in the first place. And yeah, I've had friends that turned out to just be using me or they didn't actually like me at all...I still fear going outside because of this, but now I know that I don't have to have friends to be happy (in a sense).

Loneliness is a tricky thing to try and cure, especially for introverts like me. It’s defined as the feeling of one’s social needs not being met. Similar to all needs, it’s different for every person. Though, the thing with loneliness is that it’s a feeling. It’s not a physical reaction to a need like hunger or thirst. Most people would think that the best cure for loneliness would be to go out and strengthen connections. However, when we’re dealing with an emotion like loneliness, sometimes you can have incredibly close bonds to a number of people and still feel lonely. I think that, if that’s the case, then there are two reasons for it. The first is the perception of loneliness which would be linked to thoughts and the second is that loneliness is brought on by a different, possibly more distressing, emotion or feeling. This AMWDW actually highlights a very interesting side of Starlight Glimmer. Her past can effect her feelings of loneliness in the future, regardless of whether or not her needs are being met. She’s had guilt and knowledge of the deeds she did in the past looming over her present like a shadow. I wonder if that’s affecting her thinking, leading to that feeling of loneliness. It seems that Starlight still holds herself to those deeds of the past even though everyone, even the old town she brainwashed, has forgiven her already. I wonder if she thinks about whether or not she deserves friendship and forgiveness. Sometimes, I think it’s something many of us may question, whether or not we deserve happiness when we are in the midst of our lowest or darkest moments.

I really like this analysis of Starlight's character. I haven't had enough time to really know what to think about her, but I've always felt that Starlight could never truly get out of Sunset's shadow, largely because she seemed to start off as that kind of character, and it doesn't help that she's also a Unicorn with a name that's yet another synonym with the same amount of syllables as Twlight Sparkle. That started to change in season 6, but I still had a hard time forming much of an opinion on Starlight. But thanks to both this vid and Starlight Glimmer and the Secret Suite I'm now seeing Starlight as a dynamic and well-rounded character. I'm still a ways off from ranking her alongside the mane six, but we'll see what happens down the line. At the very least I'm beginning to appreciate her as a supporting character.

Hey, it's unlikely you'll see this, but i'd really like to thank you for this series. MLP has always been an enormous comfort for me, even through my struggles with mental illness or what it may be. This type of thing really helps me project myself onto these characters and comforts me even more, as it makes them feel more real (although i realize theyre not) and overall relatable. i suppose it makes me feel less hopeless or alone. for example, it had already been quite evident, but after watching twilight's therapy visit it dawned on me that she exhibits a lot of the signs of ocd and that it's likely an unspoken thing. i have ocd, and her unnatural levels of anxiety (especially about education!) really speak to me. its just nice feeling like such a comfort understands you. in summary, thank you. this kind of thing is really, really important.

I happened to like Starlight Glimmer from the first day she debuted. I don't care if she's got weak motivations to turn evil or rarely shows regret for her past transgressions, she took villainy in MLP:FiM in a new direction and despite being reformed she still harbors an epic struggle deep within her about her future. Although I have many friends in real life and online who support me and my ideas, I sometimes feel like Starlight Glimmer does when I try to climb up the social ladder of the Brony Community, an insider looking in all because in the past I looked at what I sought for the future in the wrong way.

I... I have watched this before but now, I'm reflecting deeply into this, I can't believe that there is so much I can relate to starlight in this video . Even with my inner circle of friends, even though there are those moments I feel like I truly belong, there are those moments of fear or uncertainty when I get the feeling like I'm an outsider, that I'm a burden to some people and that I might get hurt by those I consider friends even if at the moment there is no evidence to suggest that that would happen. As it has happened quite a few times in the past, that fear is always there, deep down. The worst part is that I fear that it might be my fault if I get hurt, that I would do something that would make them upset and because of that I myself would get hurt. I always have this fear that those I love and trust might just turn against me one day or just leave me or something like I don't matter... I don't know what to do about it so I've learnt to live with it but it's not fun... I Wish I could have faith in myself and my friendships again but I can't, it's not like I don't trust my friends, I do but I guess after what happened last year I can't fully be confident in these kinds of things anymore... I thought that person was my true friend but I was so wrong, even when I was 10000% sure it was true friendship. I guess I just don't want to be hurt like that ever again, I felt so betrayed... If something like that could deceive me, I don't know how many more of my friends are false... I don't know... To all my friends, if one of you who are reading this is one of my friends, know that I still care for you and I trust you. Nothing has changed between us it's just my paranoia... I'm sorry I can't help it

The art style looks amazing, and this design of doc wolf makes him look like a worlock

"The Friendship Test" fanfic was VERY harsh. The more I know about Starlight the more I understand how in an extreme case, she could end up bad like in that story. Friends come and go, yes, but I'm also not satisfied with that reality. It does hurt: a lot.

I love these videos, helps me get a better understanding of the characters, I hope you make more in the future. Sunset Shimmer should visit. Trixie would be interesting too.

this therapy visit got my attention pretty quick , because i feel like that i have felt in a same way like starlight a long time ago , even today sometimes . but i dont have that dark past like she does . now i have another favorite pony to look at besides trixie and that is starlight glimmer . feeling almost the same way as her and trixie seems to pull me in their directions , just wanting to be friends with them to ease their suffer , even if its just a tiny little bit and deep inside me i would like that feeling to , to be not so alone in this world . sure i have some friends and met all of them in reallife and not only over games and chats , but the distance between them and me is quite big . (speaking of more than 700 kilometers) i still am in touch with them but it feels terrybly lonely , even when you have them theoretically nearly all time at stake so that they can listen to you . at some point i felt like that i was sitting there instead of starlight glimmer , as she spoke . and even if this therapy visit could be fictional , it is in any respect a quite good perspective on someone or somepony . whew ... quite a text, that i layed here again but it feels so good to let something out that bothers one . thanks for that video , drwolf , it was a nice touch in any respect and it cheered me somehow up again :) . keep up that content , im awaiting the next video of you with real patience . have a nice evening and up to next time , yours truly DragonTouched

This is great Doc! It's a great look into Starlight's character and it's something I saw in her all along (even from the beginning). And honestly, it really hit home for me. So much so, that I got a little misty eyed.... Keep up the great work man! :)

Enjoyed watching your video as always good doctor. As a person who also has a trust issue based on my past experience this hits me the closest yet. Keep up the good work and I hope to see other characters in your session soon!

Facial expressions are great, the new interpretation of the office is so pretty and calming (except I'm worried about that fireplace...), and the coloring is great. There's some moments that look like the image is squished and I'm pretty sure hooves aren't meant to look like paws when standing, but the art is great overall.

Great video. Also, the art here, at least for me, reminded me of Once Upon A Forest. At least Dr.Wolf's design anyway.

See, this is why Starlight is my new best pony. She struggles with things the mane 6 would never feel.

The knocking noise was so real i actually thought someone was knocking IRL! So i was looking outside the window and saw literally no one out there and felt like a fool..
