Being Famous has a downside, but it's best not to focusing on the negative. I get told that by many of my friends. You gotta try and think positive about certain things like being known by many and just being happy. I am a very small percent of famous to certain people because of Comic dubbing. I can feel a certain type of worry that Josh is feeling. All I can say is just get back up that road and keep going at the world full speed ahead and enjoy life to the fullest. Never let Internet Fame get you down. That's some advice from me to anyone who needs it

Shadowtechnik I'm not sure it's accurate to say it's staged entirely. The last I heard AMWDW shorts tend to start with actual discussions people have with Dr. Wolf about whatever subject is troubling them at the moment over Google Docs, but then those conversations are edited and turned into a script to make a good video. So yes they are staged, but they're basically dramatizations of actual sessions Dr. Wolf has had with people.

I think this situation is relatable to a story arc in the anime, Durarara. When Mikado Ryugamine forms the Dollars, all he wanted to do was bring people together, encourage them to get involved make them feel like they belong, like the members who were cleaning graffitti. But then some members decided to turn the dollars into a gang, to make make the people of Ikebukuro fear them. Mikado couldn't control them, especially since he never told anyone he started the group. It's a drawback that comes with having a fanbase. There will always be extremists to provide a different agenda for representing a fanbase

Hopping around some old videos. This reminds me of Goethe, the greatest poet in the history of Germany. He wrote his most famous work, "The Sorrows of Young Werther", about a man who committed suicide because the class system made it so he could not be with the girl he loved. It was based on his own and his friend's experience. He designed the book to point out how illogical and rash this decision was. However, it spurred a string of suicides from people who felt the same way. Rather than seeing the fault in their logic, they related and saw Werther as a catalyst for them. Goethe, in the end, came to accept that he couldn't control how his audience received his work. He could influence them and the intent/meaning of his work didn't change, but he is not responsible for their decisions.

This is a great discussion on setting boundaries for yourself and others. So many artists, musicians, poets, and writers are out there trying to make a name for themselves. Each aspiring to be like their heroes who have reached notable success. The issue that hits most at all levels in this area is stress and anxiety. One can get stressed and/or depressed if they continue to perceive they are unnoticed. Then you have the opposite where you are successful that stress kicks in based on Opportunity Costs. Neither situation is really pleasant. What I've learned is setting personal limitations is helpful with the attitude of "Expect the worst while hoping for the best". It then proves useful to assign times for when you will get to comments, letters, etc. Once you begin feeling stressed in doing a particular activity you move onto the one you feel is right to do. You then come to learn that true friends and/or fans are okay if you don't get back to them immediately, or at all, because they follow you for you since what you do in itself means the world to them. There are also times where you just have to let people go. These are bothersome, but I have had people I've tried to help who take no initiative past the conversation. As I learned in therapy "The real therapy takes place outside of the office." So if there is no follow through it becomes stressful to even see that person in your comments, notes, etc. It can be scary to do, but you really just have to let some go in order to ensure you are at your best for helping others through what you do.

Even though I'm not what I would call famous (despite me being that "you're everywhere" guy on KZbin comments), I'm not sure if I want to be Internet famous. On one hand, I would love to have people watch my content and support my work. On the other hand, every fanbase has those type of fans, yes, *those* fans that ruin the image of the fandom. A fandom that's normally nice can be seen as cancer because of fans like that. I'd also hate to damage control with my fans. As much as I would love to be Internet famous, I don't want to deal with the stress that can come with the fame. Then again, I wouldn't say I'm in the right place to be Internet famous since I'm only a high school senior, and I want to wait until I'm in college to start making content. Also, this live action change is pretty cool. :)

Hub Hikari Yeah, fame isn't really all it's cracked up to be. We hear stories of fallen stars all the time and it certainly makes me very cautious.
@crazyluigi66649 жыл бұрын
Hub Hikari Yeah, fame can really be a double-edged sword no matter what happens. I mean, TheEcthudan had brought up a good point on stars being fallen due to actions that they had done in private like Bill Cosby, but sometimes they end up falling because they end up failing on either their own expectations or the fans' own expectations. I think the key line on trying to manage that is making sure you remain true with yourself no matter how far you go into what you do that got yourself famous in the first place. If the hobby or whatever it was that got yourself famous in the first place remains just that and not as an actual job (and trust me, finding those can be really tough even if you had experience with them in the past), then that would be a good balance on making sure you don't go completely overboard with it moving forward.

Thank you for covering this aspect Dr.Wolf. I am still trying to figure out how to make a video since i wanted to start making analysis videos as well but i did'nt put too much thought into this negative aspect since i already know it is present in any fandom. Note: A way that i can see for you to find time to connect with your fans like you want would be to come up with a type of scheduale to decide how long and what days to do just that so that it dosn't get in the way of your projects and time with your friends. I'm a part of the Avatar the last airbender fandom to a large emotional extent and it does get ugly. Really ugly. When the Last airbender movie came out i was emotionally devastated and angry along with the rest of the fandom about the horrible excuse of a live action film M. Night put together but despite how much i hate it i'm aware movies take a long time to make no matter the format it's made in. Death threats and internet bullying is a large outcome from this and i am sad to see that. I was just as angry as everyone else but aside from rants i don't act apon it and it helped me inspire to recreate the thing i love and cherish for the fandom along woth myself that gives it justice. (Sorry for the rant on a semi diffrent topic) I am really sorry that this is happening to Josh and i hope things get better for him due to stress isn't somthing he needs to be dealing with and i wish there was somthing i could do to better help him with that but the most i can do is give my best wishes for him to stay healthy emotionally. If he needs to take a break please try and help enforce that because he needs to take better care of himself as well as you do. Even being a fan of both of your channels and loving when you upload a video i am whole heartedly pleading with both of you to relax and take a break until you feel better from whatever is bothering you. I hope both of you have a great day and thank you again for uploading this since i plan on doing my own videos as soon as i am able to in time.

Josh, I know that I'm just simply one KZbinr among thousands of fans and the likelihood of my voice reaching you is slim, but I just want to tell you that your fame is NOT why I subscribed to you in the first place. I subscribed because I love watching your videos and the effort you put into it to make it entertaining for everyone. Your personality is what draws me, and hundreds/thousands of people to you. I must confess, a few years back I remember how much I hated CoD and also how confused I was with Bronies in general, but it was you who changed my mind. I realized just how judgmental and rude I was so then I reevaluated myself and now I'm completely fine with both. You're the only KZbinr that's ever done that to me and I don't ever want you to force yourself to please us if it costs you your personality. Your own life matters more and most of your fans will understand.

Interesting! I always wanted more insight on internet fame. I used to be somewhat famous on another site that's like KZbin but instead of videos, it's games. Basically, I had the same problems as Joshscorcher. Too many people wanted me to see things or trade things, they treated me like a god, and I hated my lack of privacy. I just wanted to play a game on the site and not be stalked or have people say... "You play this game??? Why won't you play my game??!" Ugh, that irks me to this day. But lately, I'm gradually learning how to make the best of fame's worst punches, as I have on everything else. It all comes down to looking at each person who upset you in a different viewpoint and learn what's best for them in a way you know best. It's good to sit down and talk about this stuff as often as you can. It even helps you improve in your work.

4:32 I made this experience, too; in real life, though.. There are open-minded people who appreciate opinions of others but there are also some who just can't handle new ideas and won't accept them. I'd say, to a wide audience, it is important to find the midiocre for an argument so it doesn't feel forced for less open-minded people.
@arashiuchiha15919 жыл бұрын
Honestly I empathize seriously with this. I've gotten quite the following in another fandom and... I didn't ask for fame, or people flocking to my work. I just do what I do best and hope and pray people like it. I write. I write stories because the stories I tell are the ones I want to read but can rarely find in fandoms. This has lead to some very unsavory encounters and some quite scary ones. I've been stalked, I've been harassed, I've found out someone was spreading rumors about me and my co-writer which were false. Claiming we blocked them from our shared account because they were disabled. It was a flat out lie, and we got horrible feedback because of it. People are SCARY at times, especially fandoms. I know people paint fandoms like these happy little niches but sometimes fandoms... Just need a slap in the head.

I'm glad you're able to talk to Josh and help him out I hope one day I can do the same. you see for as long as I can remember what my life a lot of people have just come up to me sometimes and which start talking for some reason they would open up about their personal lives, things have told me that they are not share with many people close friends and family yet for some reason they where Able to come to me and be open about nearly anything some of them it's taking time to get to better known before they could really open up but all in all I'm glad they can feel so open trust me with such things and talk to me sometimes well actually all the time I just talked to them tell them how I feel and think about that situation and compared to my own real life story and somehow it somehow it works somehow helps them feel better I'm not really good at comforting people well at least not in my own family sometimes my trying to make someone feel better I just make things worse so I just try and stay away moon comes to other people somehow I always make them feel better and I decide that I'm going to try and actually I am I'm going to go back to school get a degree in writing and psychology I want to become a professional book writer while staying on fanfiction and I also want to become a therapist I know people say it does not pay very well and everything but I'm not going to do it for the money I really want to do it because I really want to help people I think as they say in the Brony convention and everything else it's my special talent so I want to give it a try I want to help people and honestly you've also been inspiration to me about being therapist I seen how calm and easy you are with people and I trying to be the same way I'm not saying I can based everything I want to try and do off what you do but you have been an inspiration for me about wanting to help people for the sake of helping so that's what I want to do I want to try and be helpful to people the best way I can by writing good stories and just talking to them and I hope I can do very well with that. so again thank you for being a very good inspiration and I hope you can keep on helping people the way you do and I hope one day I can good at helping people as well take care doctor wolf and tell Josh one of his fans one of his new fans says hi and hope everything works out for the better for him. please don't interpret us the wrong way that's just my catchphrase but this is machine Dragon signing off see you on the battlefield!

@JoshScorcher this is something a lot of really big celebrities have felt. The example I'm thinking of is JK Rolling and Daniel Radcliffe have a interview with each other where they talk about this. Daniel Radcliffe actually says that he feels that he could have all the Harry Potter fans follow him to storm the capital. Unfortunately people can get a sheep like mentality and just want to follow. You just need to be you and continue to try and be as positive as a role model as you can. Being a good person is a powerful way you can influence. Don't let the lemmings label you. You are not the pipe piper. Individuals make their own choices, and the fact you feel guilty for their actions just emphasizes your kind heartedness.

Have you tried the Jacksepticeye method? You can interact with your fans from time to time; you don't have to feel bad for not being able to interact with _everyone._ You're human-there's no feasible way you _could_ interact with everyone, so if you miss someone, you miss someone. Just act like a person for long enough, and your fans will eventually see through. Now, when your fans make a mistake (like going over to someone else's channel and leaving hateful comments) you said you lectured them about it. That's not enough; you need to _scold_ those fans and tell them to go apologize. If they're going to act like children, treat them like children. Having a fandom is kind of like parenting in that way.

Sobi the Robot You'd be surprised that scolding doesn't even work. Some people have firm reasons to act the way they do, and they say stuff like: "We're doing it for you! We're protecting you! We can't let that monster treat you that way!" I forget exactly what they said, but it may have been more messed up than this because I remember being speechless when I first read it. If you have a large audience, you'll have those misbehaving people in the back doing stupid things in your name shamelessly. They may be also worshiping a water bottle too in the meantime. You can't really talk with them, but they can attack hard on small youtubers.

While I may not have a legion of fans at my beck and call, I can understand how easily and quickly hate spreads throughout KZbin when subscribers mean to defend someone they're fans of. I think people tend to use hate as an excuse because it's so much easier to type mean-spirited words onto a screen to someone they won't ever see in real life than it is to stop, take a breath, and learn to tolerate or accept someone else's opinion for what it is and move on. I don't like to use quotes from movies, *especially* this one, but it actually makes sense and can be easily applied to Josh's scenario. "If a lot of people loved each other, the world would be a better place to live." - Tommy Wiseau, "The Room" Somehow one of the worst movie ever made was able to better understand this logic than sensible people who can rationalize and think of ridiculously unnecessary death threats over an opinion on a public website.
@AkinaHellsing5559 жыл бұрын
I agree. I talked about this in my comment on here thats sort of similar to the point you are making. People just are to quick to jump to a violent reation if somthing they are a fan of is ruined or spoken of negativly. They just really need to sit down and think things over till they can let the thought that people all have diffrent opinions and should be reslected for such sink into there minds. If this happened or becomes a thing people will have less internet hate than it does now. Nobody disserves this sort of reaction from things no matter the sercamstances

There is a setting where you can take the fact that you comment off of your feed so it doesn't get posted to google+ or your activity feed if you want less pressure 😀

Ah yes the every thing only have two sides and the is no middle ground. and if you say that you like this one thing about A that must mean that you like all of A, and if you like all of A that must mean that you hat B. you have it with PC vs. Mac, DC vs. Marvel. AVR vs.PIC, and really they all have good and bad thing about them. I often try to see all the sides, and they keep my mouth shut, with the exception of when people are are doing A vs. B, and are over looking all of the bad things in the thing they are for and the good thing they are against.

steamcastle I wish it was possible for people to just find an agreement somewhere. I use PC but I can see there would be some benefits to using a Mac. I prefer Marvel but I like the Arkham games

Equestrian Idiot yes for most things pc or mac, don't make a much of a difference, most big programs are made for both, or have a equivalent on the other OS, and as band 'Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie' put it in song "Every OS Sucks". also GNU, Linux, and BSD so Equestrian Idiot AVR or PIC ? really no be difference, yes the different chips have different specs, but you code it all in C++ and in over 90% of the cases there is no difference,

This is what I hate sometimes, fans of an internet celeb attacking people just to defend them, its not needed and is pointless. Why do people need to do something so stupid, thinking its the right thing?

Is anyone else reminded of "Stan" by Eminem by this? Well, at least no one horse famous hasn't driven their car off an unfinished bridge with their pregnant girlfriend in the trunk...at least to my knowledge

DrWolf... I respect you and admire you more than you could possibly know and appreciated the points that you were trying to make in the video. But that vest is WAY too big for you. Might I recommend getting it tailored?

well, I guess I know feel your guys pain, and I'll do better to try not to shove myself into your guys or other's faces about trying to get you to watch my video's or fan fictions, and take no offense if you never respond to my comments.

Here's something I've always wondered. Is the AMWDW segments scripted or fully uncripted?
@DRWolf0019 жыл бұрын
Oscar Hult Josh had introduced the concept idea on what he wanted to talk about, and I thought it could make for a good discussion. Everything beyond that is completely unscripted here. Even for the normal AMWDW projects, my guest will introduce a concept, and I'll decide on whether or not it's worthy for discussion. We'll open up a Google Doc start writing our thoughts back and forth, and within an hour or so have a working script. We may go back and fix up the sentence structure so it flows a bit more naturally, but everything in the AMWDW projects is in fact a normal discussion between DRWolf and his guest.
