Spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen the whole series: Misty actually HAS a cutie mark already; Opaline somehow keeps covering it up without Misty noticing, plus it doesn't help that it's all blue making it somewhat camouflaged. However, I agree with the possibility that the season finale may have Misty realizing she's had one all along, causing her to join the "mane five".

Misty is easily one of the most intriguing part of gen 5 for me. She's very much a "it's about the journey, not destination" sort of characters, we know (or at least are very sure) she will become the 6th member of the main cast. But the journey she will take to get there, I think will be incredibly interesting. I can see so much potential in her, and many ways she can prove herself. The best in my eyes would be a situation where she has grown somewhat close to them, and then everything is revealed, opaline is about to get ultimate power, and the main 5 are helpless, and misty says something along the lines of "I don't care if I don't get a cutie mark, saving my friends is more important" this of course will also earn her, a cutie mark.

I haven’t watched Humpback of Notredam, but that line would be amazing for Misty! And between her social anxiety and her constant interaction with the mane 5, there’s a lot of interesting things that could happen. Misty certainly has taken the fandom by storm, and you’re not the only one whose thoughts keep going back to her. I personally have been doing a lot of digging as to her future cutie mark possibilities, what it’ll be about, and what her talent truly is. It’s a lot to thing about, and due to Opaline’s abusive control over her, it’s a lot harder to find what she really enjoys than I previously thought. But no doubt this will bring me closer to truly understanding this amazing character.

Misty is the perfect storm of character, the design, voice and personality! Also something that genuinely surprised me, was it wasnt a cartoonish villian berating their minion, but it was genuinely realistic parental emotional abuse, so much so that me and many other people who ive talked to felt genuinely uncomfy at some of the scenes since it hits so close to home for us. Since the writers are setting up the textbook abusive parental relationship, it seems very likely they will actually deal with mistys trauma, as she already has obvious anxiety disorder with lines like "Why do i always panic and do the wrong thing..." and "I have this thing... where i cant get... the words out when im nervous... sometimes... eugh.." shes ultra sympathetic and many people already adore her. Also for her mark, the butterfly symbolizes great change, rebirth and potential. so mistys arc will be sooo cool to see! Esp since it is likely she might be magically gifted~

I'd actually love to see an episode where Misty interacts with Queen Haven and hears some of Sunny and Hitch's stories about Argyle and starts comparing the way those two parents treat/treated their kids with the way her own "mother" treats her. It would even be strengthened by having Phyllis get brought in somehow and having the lesson be "A parent can and should have expectations for their children. But those expectations should always be geared towards what would be best for the child and neither overly permissive doting nor overly harsh critiques are appropriate." This could even spin into a friendship and/or sibling relationship tie-in where either the Pegasus Princess Sisters or some combo of the Mane 5 members end up having to learn the lesson in a "wanting what's best for your friend/sibling should be on THEIR terms, not yours. Meeting in the middle is fine but there's a difference between compromise and one side being forced to give in despite misgivings." style.

If we're going by the idea that each of G5's main characters are based on G4's mane 6 - I know, a hot take - then that means Sunny would be comparable to Twilight, Izzy to Pinkie, Pipp to Rarity, Zipp to Rainbow Dash, Hitch to Applejack, and Misty to Fluttershy. But what does that mean for what Misty's element of harmony will be?: Sunny's is hope, Izzy's is creativity, Hitch's is (some synonym of) kindness, Pipp's is courage, and Zipp's is confidence. I only say that Hitch's element of kindness is more of a synonym of the word because kindness is Fluttershy's element, and Hitch is known to be a hard(ened) and by-the-book sheriff.

When I saw at the end of the season finale of My Little Pony: Make Your Mark season 1, I feel bad for Misty when she was yelled by Opaline when Opaline was having a breakdown that she wanted a dragon fire. But Misty went to her room and start crying about Opaline feel disappointed in her. Well, I guess that must be a bigger painful experience when a sidekick of the main villain has a hard time to finish the job.

The ending of the series shows Misty finally starting to wake up to Opaline's abuse, but she's also starting to soften up to the main characters. I forsee her becoming the Starlight Glimmer of the group, but perhaps with a more elegant reformation. Starlight's was poorly paced and sloppy, like the writers weren't sure how they wanted her arc to play out. It looks like the Make Your Mark team are a bit more confident in this case. They even have a bigger villain to take the fall so it doesn't seem like the bad guy is getting off easy -- something Friendship is Magic had trouble with.

Its a simple layup. Introduce character who is on the bad but show all the good traits. Show her being on the bad side was based on something out of her control. Make her choose her friends over Opaline, probably reveal that she's why Misty is in the position she's in, and boom, earn a cutie mark. It's an old trope, sir, but it checks out.

I do find it interesting how they give misty a Frolo and Quasimodo relationship, with Opaline, seeing as how she says she saved Misty a long time ago. I also feel like the series will build her character more as it continues, and eventually she may join the mane 5 and give us our new Mane 6. I myself also hope that the show will give her a powerful scene where she may stand up to Opaline after her who knows how many years of being treated poorly by her and being manipulated into helping someone so evil, all because of a false promise a cutie mark Opaline made to her.

I definitely get the potential for a 6th Ranger-type character from Misty. After nine seasons with a Mane Six, having a show with only five felt off to me. If we see it as the team being incomplete though, and Misty's knowledge being important for however the show moves forward, I could definitely see her being added to the opening credits. And considering G1 Spike started as Tirek's minion, there is precedent for it

Misty is certainly a complex and interesting character. While Zipp is the character that I most identify with, and I liked the episode where she suspected Misty, I’m finding myself more drawn to the parts involving Opaline and Misty simply because the Mane 5 aren’t fully aware of them yet, and I’m waiting for that to happen. I also thought of Thorax. It would have been nice if he had been introduced similarly to how Misty was here, with Chrysalis in the Opaline role. That might also have helped to justify his mopey, Eeyore-like personality in “The Times They Are a Changeling”. Of course, Thorax at least had his brother Pharynx, while Misty has no one as yet. I didn’t think of comparing Misty to Fluttershy. I might have to watch those episodes again. The main trait of Fluttershy’s that I see Misty sharing (other than her timidity-and Fluttershy was bullied as a filly) is that Fluttershy is do against confrontation that she’s willing to accept giving up certain freedoms: see her reactions to Starlight’s village in “The Cutie Map” and to the Kirin in “Sounds of Silence”. I can honestly see an alternate reality Fluttershy being drawn to a villain like Opaline in a similar way to how Misty is. Honestly, while I admit I have no experience either firsthand or knowing anyone with such experience, I find it difficult to see how a character who is raised by someone so evil and verbally and emotionally abusive can turn out so nice, whether it’s Quasimodo being raised by Frollo, or Rapunzel being raised by Mother Gothel (or for that matter, Thorax being raised by Chrysalis). Again, keeping in mind that I have no idea how this plays out in real life, Misty strikes me as being more realistic in that regard. She’s not all evil herself (the main thing she wants is a cutie mark) but she knows Opaline is and she wants to please Opaline. Honestly, I’m starting to mentally compare Misty a little bit to Starlight Glimmer-or at least to my headcanon for Starlight. I consider Starlight Glimmer to be arguably the most interesting character in Friendship is Magic, and I’ve written an outline fleshing out her backstory that we never got to see on the show. In it, Starlight didn’t immediately jump from “my best friend is gone because he got his cutie mark and I didn’t” to “I hate cutie marks and wish all ponies were equal”, but rather she got there in stages. In particular, I noted a similarity between Starlight’s backstory and Apple Bloom, and considered the possibility that Starlight had the opportunity (never realized, obviously) to become one-third of a proto-Cutie Mark Crusaders with an earth pony filly and a pegasus filly. It seems as though a more likely immediate desire would have been for Starlight to want to get her cutie mark as soon as possible so that she could be where Sunburst was and they could be together again. Such a notion seems to me to be similar to Misty, except that Starlight’s father seems more to have enabled her rather than verbally and emotionally abusing her. We know nothing about Starlight’s mother: I would HOPE she wasn’t like Spoiled Rich, and in my outline her mother was dead-but would that have made her own start of darkness more believable? Still, I don’t like the cliche of the Freudian excuse, and we already kind of have that with what we know of Starlight’s backstory. Honestly, for now at least, I’m more invested in the Mane 5 learning of Opaline and the threat she presents, and of Misty’s situation-and in Misty coming to learn about friendship and breaking with Opaline and getting her cutie mark and maybe becoming a “Sixth Ranger”-than I am in the Mane 5 and their determination to bring magic back and bring the three pony tribes back (the primary part of that which interests me is learning the exact backstory that led from the end of Friendship is Magic to now). Maybe that’s primarily because the Mane 5 met in the movie (which I still haven’t seen yet), and Opaline was only introduced (and not by name) at the end of Chapter 1 of Make Your Mark. Honestly, I usually prefer “slice of life”, but the slice of life stuff we’ve been getting so far hasn’t been that memorable to me. And I share your concern about the Mane 5 coming across as oblivious. Zipp is the least problematic in that regard, but even she is more oblivious than I would have expected or wanted. I now wish I’d seen Chapter 1 before Chapter 2. And maybe I would have appreciated the show better if I’d seen the movie first. But I would have hoped that I wouldn’t need that in order to appreciate the show as it is. Sorry for the ramble. I tend to do that, especially about something I’m interested in and that is thought-provoking.

Indeed, the sixth ranger has the most potential. I want them to go the Fresh/Go Princess Precure route since we have a "brainwashed" person, a terrible person raising them, and said person interacting with people showing her a healthier way of living. I see Misty like Sestuna and Towa mixed (those two shows sixths), both also were brainwashed (in different ways). Let us hope they go Toei and ask the question: What do you do when the evil you're trying to fight is someone close to you? Call it playing favorites, but the truest of heroes are the ones who are the most honest with themselves.

I really like this different take on the whole reformed villain thing with Misty. Most G4 villains are usually reformed first before becoming friends with the main cast. But Misty technically isn’t reformed yet as she’s still working with the big bad. So this time the villain’s friendship could reform her, when in G4 they become friends post reformation.

I guess Misty will be the reformed pony and an addition to the mane cast, like Sunset Shimmer was in EQG and Starlight Glimmer in FiM. They all are misunderstood, lonely, in search of real and genuine friendship and acceptance. Sunset and Starlight had a more than decent character development throughout G4 and I guess that will be the case with Misty too. We will see how the process, of being a villain to a worthy friend of the Mane cast, will look like. We get to know how she really is, that she still struggles with herself sometimes, like Sunset who had anger issues and times of being selfish and Starlight, who was impatient, but ultimately, that she is more than a valueable asset to the mane team and an example of what friendship must be.

In my school vr game misty has got to be the most ballsyest character by far first off she used a old possession spell on the lower moon 1 enmu to learn about Goalius and muzon zenbookse secondly possessed goalius to steel the prezom beam Latina and during so got the flame harshira fatally wounded and poor nezuko completely soaked like 5 times via goalius hydro pump ability and after goalius was back to normal she blasted goalius at a weakspot created from a combination between the Ariel gun bit barrage and nezuko pyro manipulation which created a portal to opeline palace and escaped with the Latina and as a bonus a fragment of goalius core which ended with goalius in a coma and fyi opeline was impressed ( there was a alternate plan earlier that blow up in her face from the get go because there was no such thing as a changeling spell ) and that lead to 2 of muzan zenbookse demon moons in the medbay ( enmu went into a coma after she derailed when she merged with a train instead of being killed by tanjirou going for the neck bone but instead went into a coma ) and fyi Goalius incomplete core is not active ( it needs to be complete to be active) and the fragment of goalius core which was unstable ( it became unstable because argent energy + equestrian magic = bad news )

Allow me to explain mlp g5 lore (it's still theory but it explains everything) Warning Maybe spoilers 1. Opaline is Radiant Hope from Idw 2. The Unity Crystal is composed of the crystal heart/the crystal in grogars bell/ the Crystals they used to repair the crystal heart when flurry broke it/ the crystal in the Sacanas staff the storm king had (they are the same crystal type just broken ish I guess (also the crystal heart is part crystal, part pink fire heart from hearts warming eve), that purple thing that Celestia had to show what happend to the crystal empire, and a seed from the tree of harmony which sombra destroyed. (The Unity Crystal is tree parts so the wings are the crystal heart + Shards, the horn is what Celestia had which also might be Princess Amores horn, and the earth pony crystal is a seed from the tree of harmony.) 3. Opaline can't use alicorn magic/ magic held within the Unity Crystals because the Unity Crystals filter evil intent and opaline doesn't want Equality. 4. Unity Crystal may be keeping sombra at bay/ the purple void hole might be where sombra is. 5. Umbrum (Sombra's shadow pony race) are a sub species of windigo but instead of snow storm it's more thunder storm. Also the Unity Crystals are controlling the sun and moon right now. 6. Misty step doesn't have a cutie mark because she is part Umbrum and sombras child. Opaline is her bio mom but opaline is also a corrupted alicorn like nightmare moon therefore opaline doesn't remember Misty being her child. 7. Twilight made the Unity Crystals because magic was fading because Ponies were not friends so windigos and umbrum were taking over because friendship is magic but magic wouldn't live without friendship but friendship would live without magic 8. Opaline is living in the castle of the two sisters.

The only characters I can come up with who had a similar timeframe would be Trixie Lulamoon and Discord. But Misty's story will be a lot deeper because people can see her path to redemption step by step.

Ever since chapter 1 I believed that Misty was going change. Even though we saw her at the end for a bit, by her facial expression she didn't look like she wanted to cause harm. Misty is funny and cute, and I know their is potential for her to grow and learn true friendship and love. I hope in future episodes, that she starts to understand that Opaline is using her as a puppet and doesn't really see her as a daughter. Also I think Izzy and Misty would become best friends.

There are some more subtle hints pointed out by viewers in the various clips and screenshots posted on Derpibooru. Arguments and joke comments aside, some bring up details like how little Misty has in her room. Her pillow is all shabby and patched in places, her bed looks more like something for a pet, she only has one blanket with no sheets, her only wall decoration is a childhood drawing of Opaline. And seeing how something like popcorn has gotten her attention, it makes me wonder what Opaline feeds her (let alone how little).

So here is my theory where Mlp is going here Anyone remember that literally one liner from that filly telling sunny in one episode (forgot which) that she just read a book about a magic tree growing elements? So I would say we will here about the elements of harmony. So i believe misty will join the main cast as a reformed villain (henchpony anyway) and that will complete the elemts again Sunny is magic, pipp generosity, izzy laughter, hitch loyalty, zipp honesty and finally izzy with kindness. As you said, dr wolf, she has a lot of similar traits to fluttershy, and she doesn't really seem to want to hurt anyone either. She seems more hurt and mistreated than anything else really. So this is my theory. What do you say?

Here's my headcannon: I don't think they'll wait untill the end with Misty's reformation. I think she'll warm up to the Mane 5 on her missions to spy on them and mabye even telling her some of her backstory in broad strokes to them and startin to distance herself from Opaline as much as she can without fully leaving as the temptation for a CM is still too great for her. At some point however I think she'll find herself in some sort of oppertunity to kipnap Sparky and bring him to Opaline. Opal obviously doesn't keep her promise, absorbs Sparky's magic (so she can leave the castle) and attacks the brighthouse. Misty arrives in Maretime Bay at some point during or after the battle completely emotionally crushed, explains herself to the Mane 5 she gets forgiven and offered a spot in the brighthouse, effectivaly making our Mane 5 a Mane 6. and the Misty part of the story becomes about helping her heal her mental trauma. Her main goal however is still her CM. She'll probably gain her CM at about the end of the series when she realises she doesn't need a CM to fit in as her freinds accept her for who she is.

Tempest and Grubber were not exactly raised but taken in by the Storm King and sent on a mission to do his bidding. I wonder what Opaline will do if Misty doesn't come back, since she needs magic to actually do something. We may yet see Misty as a member of the G5 Mane Six if it comes to that. I was pleasantly surprised that in the most recent Tell Your Tale episode, somehow, Sunny found out about Nightmare Night and tried to recreate it. I wonder if the Mane Five and Misty will unlock other trivial or mysterious pasts.

Agreement all around with you, Doc. From the first moment I saw Misty on screen during my react, something just seemed off about her relationship with Opaline. She just didn't seem "all in" on being her assistant in villainy, and as the episodes went on, I started feeling bad for her. I know I've said in a previous comment that it also gave off Storm King/Tempest vibes, but maybe that realization moment will come when Misty realizes she was being played the whole time and wasn't going to get anything from Opaline in return for all her 'hard work'. I'm right there with you in hoping for that moment to come at some point. I'm truly rooting for Misty as a character and am truly intrigued by where her arc goes from here.

I kind of see Misty and Opaline’s relationship similar to Tempest and The Storm King from the G4 movie, and Hasbro does seem to be recycling that scene from G4 again in G5 with this. Opaline promised her that she would get her cutie mark, and she’s ordering Misty to steal magical objects from the Mane 5 to become more powerful. We also know that Tempest did get the Storm King what he wanted, but there was a twist where he revealed to have used her for his own personal gain. This also seems to be hinted at when Misty brings some of Sparky’s dragon fire to Opaline but orders her to get more. In turn when Opaline gets enough of it, she will probably reveal that she used Misty all along to get that power and won’t get her a cutie mark. Then perhaps Misty could turn around and save the Mane 5 from Opaline, which would be a similar turn of events with how Tempest saved the Mane 6 from the Storm King. Though I don’t think turning to stone and being smashed to pieces like the Storm King would be the best fate for Opaline to experience. I also don’t think Misty is truly evil, she definitely does have some good in her such as awing at the magic mouse camera, and enjoying her time with the Mane 5 at the sleepover. Though she’s being sucked into Opaline’s taunting and is forced to behave the way she does in order to get her cutie mark, but she’ll eventually realise that it isn’t the way. I don’t know exactly how it will play out, but that’s the direction I’m guessing her character arc is headed.

I feel like as everyone says that it really does Seem like Misty is on a path to where she will reform and likely get to know the mane 5 more, but is a minion to Opaline and doesn’t want to leave her since Opaline saved her life. So it gives off a Power rangers vibe of seeing the 6th ranger working for the villain, but unlike them Misty is nice & caring while the 6th ranger is corrupted to be evil. That aside, I do hope Misty starts to see Sunny, Izzy & the others as friends and she at least tells them of her not really having a cutie mark. Since that could at least be something they could help her with.

I think that Opaline will eventually win and she most likely will take over the royal castle at Zephyr Heights and trap the Mane 5 along with Sunny's alicorn powers. The Mane 5 eventually manage to escape only to find Misty talking to Opaline and thinks she is teaming up with her and run away due to emotional break down. In reality Misty was talking about how Unity and Friendship are not that bad only for Opaline to cut her short (kind of a similar plot to "Bolt" climax)

Misty and Izzy being sisters would be a brilliant twist. Also, I actually have a funny sort-of headcanon that whatever caused Misty to be taken by Opaline caused the unicorns to be superstitious of the word ‘Mayonnaise’. I get it was a joke but it would add more lore to the story and would also make that part of ‘A New Generation’ more interesting upon rewatching because it would imply that whatever happened to Misty is still fresh in the minds of many unicorns. I could imagine that the reveal of Misty and Izzy being related (and the origin for the mayonnaise superstition) happens when they head to Bridlewood, where a few unicorns (older than Izzy) appear to recognise Misty’s appearance, but don’t recognise her name (implying that ‘Misty’ may not be her actual name and it’s actually a name that not even Misty herself remembers (suggesting her current name was given to her by Opaline)), until it’s revealed that Misty is Izzy’s younger sister who disappeared without a trace. Because Misty would appear to have vanished the moment a unicorn said ‘Mayonnaise’, the tribe all assumed that that caused Misty’s disappearance, and so declared it a forbidden word alongside ‘Magic’, ‘Wing’, and ‘Feather’.

At first I was a bit annoyed with the character and had the feeling, she'd be the stereotypical minion of the bad guy. But then I started enjoying to see her and rooting for her. I actually want her to get some praise from Ophaline, so the foreshadowed choice between Sunnys group and Ophaline will be much harder. And I absolutely adored the Home Alone scene with Sparky. Evading all those traps, she sure is athletic.
