"Winter Wish Day" is...What Exactly???

The scene that stood out to me was Sunny shouting "grab her!" her Izzy wanted to start another conversation with someone she knew, before leaving for Zephyr Heights. It just keeps replaying in my head along with Sunny's reaction to there being so many acts of the princess song, as well as Queen Haven and her love for her daughters. It was a Holiday special, I didn´t expect a masterpiece but it actually went beyond my expectations. I usually don´t like holiday specials but this one kept me entertained with how it was similar to Christmas and New-Year (with the star) but still deviant enough to sound pony-like.

This reminds me of that one chibi generation 3 special, Twinkle Wish Adventure. I mean, they both have a wishing star and tree if I recall, and both holidays are named the same: "Winter Wish." Taking inspiration from G3? Probably not, but it is an interesting comparison.

It was simple, but I enjoyed it for what it was. It was funny and sweet at times. My favorite part was probably the Royal Concert with Zipp and Pipp. Also, funny moments with Zoom and Thunder as well. This might be something I would like to rewatch each year during the holidays, like the Friendship is Magic holiday episodes and specials.

I think it just shows people celebrate winter holidays differently 🤷 there's 4 different things. Sunny's gift exchanging under the star, hitch spending time with his grandma, zipp & pipp shopping n doing a show, & izyy having a community celebration with a pagan headdress.

It was good, I loved the songs and it made me get into the holiday season a bit. Also the animation wasn't bad. My favorite part that I liked was the concert scene of Pipp and Zipp dancing, I liked how Zipp was engaged in it despite the fact that stuff isn't her thing.

I really enjoyed Winter Wishday! It’s such a comfy special to watch. And honestly, it’s been a while since I’ve seen Best Gift Ever and while that special is enjoyable, I can’t compare it to Winter Wishday as they both have different generations. I’m excited to see more of the Marestream as well as seeing if Misty will join the mane cast in the future. Lots of catchy songs and lots of adorable and funny moments.

I was saving Winter Wish Day for Christmas Night and I got to say this is pretty good. I will say it's good but not perfect because there are some questions I do have with this special like Since when did Unicorns control winter? how long did Equrestria have no snow? and what happened to Hearth's Warming Eve? I will say the artwork is impressive and another thing you did not mention is that there was a Wonderbolts poster at Zephyer Heights and I was absolutely happy to see that. I was wondering are we going to see the Wonderbolts sometime in the future or are they hinting something much bigger? I also do like the songs in this special as well. I will say I do love Best Gift Ever and that was a great special. I will say I had fun watching Winter Washday and I cannot wait to see What Chapter 3 has to offer us in the Future.

It was alright with a few standout moments, but it played it safe and the quick resolutions to problems made the stakes nonexistent. It didn’t have Misty or Opaline in it which is for the best with the time constraint. I’m just gonna imagine that Misty handed out drinks and snacks while Opaline played cards with the Windigos. The biggest thing I got from this special is that Unicorns will start to use magic besides just basic levitation now. Sparky also seems to be learning to talk to show him growing up. It’ll be interesting to see if they show him continue to grow and mature throughout the series.

I don't see Sparky maturing much. Remember, Spike was only so mature and able to think for himself in season 1 because, by that point he was at least 10 years old, whereas Sparky is Still barely more than a few months old at best

I like unicorns using spells and how it still has something to do with a certain phrase said, but the fact that they seems to be able to make them so easily and have such a huge effect bothers me. Idk its like downplaying how much work twilight and other unicorns seemed to have to do and have done to make spells. Although it could be bc they were such simple spells with repeated use, and I just hope it stays that way. Seems magic is much softer in g5 compared to g4 (not that it was that hard in g4)

Hello Dr Wolf! It's been a while. Anyway at first I thought this might have been underwhelming but after watching it a few more times I think it's actually pretty good. This is definitely a "This is the way the Holidays really are" kind of story. That's why I think it might be a little rushed because that's kind of circumstance of the story. I'd like to stay but..umm it's time to go! I don't think the Marestream was convenient but planned. I think the the series is still in world building / maintenance mode and not only will this not be the last of the Marestream this is just beginning and we will see it a lot more. I'm a little dissapointed we didn't learn more about this holiday but as always this series has a lot to do in not a lot of time. Still there was a few interesting things here and it was interesting to see how the 3 pony kinds celebrate essentially the same holiday. Also this could be the beginning of the Unicorns learning new spells especially with the scene with Izzy and the Marestream. Dr Wolf, I have one thing that is in my mind for a while, what ever happened to the other species of Equestria? Dragons, hippogriffs, yaks, griffons, changelings and Kirin. So far, we only know pony kind and one dragon in Generation 5, but the other species weren’t mentioned or seen in the series, nor in the comics. What do you speculate on what could have happened to them since the time of Friendship Is Magic?

I think it's weird that the unicorns and pegasi didn't have snow until now since Bridlewood is a forest and Zephyr Heights is a mountain top. I understand why Maretime Bay wouldn't since it's a beach, but even Grandma Figgy's house is likely to have a little snow. I just wish weather or the ability of flight weren't controlled by magic.

I thought it was a fun cute special and the thing about Best Gift ever is that it came eight seasons into Friendship is magic with the clear intention of being a love letter to us the fans for sticking with it for so long. It had tons of history to pull from, where as this special is still early in Make your mark's life cycle so I think it's unfair to compare these two specifically. Really it's more fair to compare it to the first Christmas related episode Friendship is magic did which was Hearths warming eve, and I hate that episode so this was a much better first step towards those kind of episodes.

I have to say I too was looking for lore in this special. They each had their own moments and I definitely enjoyed it. I will also say I do like how spells seem to at least work similarly though I can’t say I enjoy how easy it was to make a spell, seems like it’s not that hard to become an alicorn after all heh. Also I want to point out I say a wonder bolt poster in the background of zephyr heights and I’m wondering if maybe the team is still around or newly created one since they can fly again. Also I really enjoy the little interactions we get with unicorns in bridlewood. Onyx and alphabittle the most bc how interesting and in character they were here. The little bits of dialogue with the Pegasus guards and how yet again we see hitch is a rule follower and set in his ways to a degree of not even realizing it.

Hello Doc, can you maybe made an Video about the realy strange Releasedates of G5 and, if theres any, the success in the Bronydom? I don't know at what intervals G4 was released, I had join the Fanbase after the Show was over in 2019, but actual there are Months between new Stuff and the Content is often very bad (Example: the Megaphone Cutiemarks), like made by People who never have see a single Eppisode of the last 4 Generations. Usual I would say, here we release "one" (not 8) Episode per Week, the Specials are for special Events like Hearts Warming Day, Hearts and Hoof Day and other. Instead the actualk Releases are not realy good to build up an new Fanbase, if the only content is made by the old G4 Fans. The Special in this Video was in November 2022 and we have now April 2023 and not even know when the next Episodes will be released. I heard the next Episodes should be released first in March 2023 and not something with May. I mean they want a new G5 Fanbase and it need 6 Months between the Hearts Warming Special and Episode 9? Somehow it let me think G5 will maybe not even get a 2. Season if they let the "new Fans" wait so long. They maybe create more G4 Fans, after all the Fanbase is still very creative in new Stuff with Videos, Art and Storys. I think they should continue the 4. Generation instead of forcing People into liking G5. Before the first G5 Movie came out maybe not I was hoping to see a next Generation of G4 with one generation later and Twilight as Ruler instead of the Sisters and what they have do was an Alternate Universe of G4 with the Mane 6 in it just to lure old Fans in the Movies. It could be interesting to see how the Fans have react on the G5 Content so far, maybe you can find Details how many have watch the Movies and then the Show and Specials. It would interest me to see if the Views go down or up and if the Expectations and the final Result of the G5 Movie had any Impact on the Views of Show/Specials.

Honestly Doc, like you i also had mixed feelings about this special i definitely enjoyed it but at the same time i didn't think it was that great. I mean i loved the songs and it was very interesting to learn about the different traditions and how each of the pony races celebrate the holidays but other than that for me the special wasn't great.

Honestly, it just reaffirmed my opinion that G5 still has a lot of potential - and I wish (despite how fat a chance it might be) that Hasbro meddled less (said lower-but-still-nonzero meddling, IMO, being a piece of what allowed G4 to keep flourishing - another part being the team Faust assembled of course, can't deny that). I feel like there is potential to understand the kinds of things that made a show like G4 stand out, and bring these elements in, while moving the franchise in new directions/allowing the series to advance and evolve, and IMO that would be awesome (keeps moving forward rather than being stuck in gear, WHILE still having the building blocks that allow for a show to be appealing to a wide audience demographic) Am I nuts?

I agree. Even though Winter Wish Day is a cute Christmas special, it’s not as memorable as My Little Pony Best Gift Ever. But with each My little Pony generation they speak out their different narratives of how the world of pony kind and other creatures operate. I definitely enjoy every characters’ special moments in the special, their was some unique character growth compared to the My little pony A new generation. Onyx is more interesting with her poetry. Grandma Figgy plays along with Hitch’s anticipation of “planning things are they are” knowing that change can also be good sometimes. In G4 where there are tales of the wind-dingos. This one has a twist where the unicorns were performing an ancient to greet one another without noticing their magic effects the snowy blizzard. I enjoy this overall, but again it’s not as memorable as the other Christmas specials in the My Little Pony universe.

Aww come on, A Very Minty Christmas isn't that bad. It actually has a more interesting story than Winter Wishday, with actual character development, stakes, more subtle foreshadowing, no overpowered magic solving everything, and fewer distracting scenes that have nothing to do with the plot. Also, it has an entire song about ponies wearing socks. They predicted the brony fandom way back in 2005.

At best, I thought it was okay, not very memorable though. It just felt like a 'Pony Holiday Special' for the sake of MAKING such special but without any real REASON behind it to tell such stories. I was hoping for a little more world lore and history of the hows and whys each pony race celebrated they way it did. Best scene for myself: the Marestream flying into the blizzard, Pipp freaking out at the icing on the wings and Izzy's attempt to keep everyone calm with a made up on the fly 'Jedi Mind Trick' in order to land safely. The visuals were much better and we got to see Alphabittle again, but each spot to visit was so brief there was never a chance to learn anything substantive. Maybe I'm expecting too much......

well even though I'd found this special to be alright for what it was for the Make Your Mark MLP Series But I've seen better from Friendship is Magic from Best Gift Ever But I'd found Winter WishDay to be enjoyable for what it was But it wouldn't be something to go back and re-watch again like Best Gift Ever from Friendship is Magic

I was disappointed that the writers didn’t include a few Friendship is Magic (G4) references, such as “Hearthswarming”. I know it’s a new generation, but it had significant connections in the 1st special, and “Friendship Shine Collection” toy, but forgot about G4 since. Spike has been in every pony generation, but now there’s a small dragon not named Spike?? Also I’m not seeing consistency in how magic works, unlike G4. “Best Gift Ever” was superior.

I' have finish watching the new G5 Special and after just 3 Minutes I already know it is a Fail again. Of course, the Special was nice to see and its entertaining, but its "Popcorn Entertainment", something you see and soon the Story os forgotten again. I mean Winter Wish Day and Wishing Star instead of Hearts Warming Day and Friendship Fire? Aditional Xmas Songs with different Text, even theres no Religion in Equestria. The Star is maybe similar to the Tree (who look a bit like the a reused fake Tree of Harmony Model) a Hint on Christmas with the Holy Star and the Christmastree. I just wish they would at last try to continue old Traditions, who was Part of Equestria for over 1000 Years before the G4 Show started. After all we know from the G4 Show, the Hearts Warming Eve was also the Founding of Equestria by uniting the three Pony Races. Then it start to snow but even after a whole Night of Snowfall, the Area is still green and after the are back the Area is green again or never was wite at all, what made no Sense. Unicorns have no Snow Spell and never had them, at last none who need Words, the Pegassi have made the Weater atificial. Theres just two Creatures who can made such a Snowstorm, the Windigos and King Sombra. I have the Feeling that Generation 5 has its Inspiration from Generation 1, special from the 2. Part "My Little Pony Tales". A good hint are Posey, who is a G1 Pony and many Ponys wear the Tail Bows from the old Generations. Both made no Sense in some Parts like Kids have Jobs or in MLPT the most Ponys was walking on 2 Hoofes most of the Time. Generation 5 and MLPT also use Songs to cover Time, instead of telling an real Story, like in G% the missing of Story Progress. No Sign of Opaline or Misty, who usual should be with the Main 5. In G4 the villain was already public to Equestria in the first Episode, but after 2 Specials and 8 Episodes, nopony know Opaline even Exist, except Misty. It get clearer with every new Episode, the G5 Universe is not the same as G4, because there are so many differences and Netflix not tell us important Details. Generation 5 is very much like Rings of Power, it is maybe the same Universe, but they completly Ignore what was before and do their own thing. Like Rigs of Power are very different and wrong with Lord of the rings, Generation 5 has the same with Generation 4. Netflix do what they want and "flip a Finger" on the G4 Lore, even they try to tell us, its the Same World, just in the Future. No, it's not. G5 is simple just a new Generation, like G3 after G1 and G4 after G3.5 and none was somewhere Connected, except the Names and some of the Ponydesigns. At last the G4 Gags (Pipp act like Rarity with 10 Suitcases) are nice. The Marestream by the way look like one of the Famous After Dark flying Toaster fused with an RGB PC Case.

Ah, yes...... the Marestream...... and some thought the crystal castle and then the crystal treehouse were obvious toy plugs...... _That_ thing is even proportioned like a toy! Not really any complaints, just an "obvious plug is obvious" observation. Should come in handy later too. Onyx: pony Bohemian extraordinaire. Could be interesting to develop this side character a bit beyond simply "poetry pony with bongo sidekick". I don't know...... with all the buildup and Zip finding clues I was really expecting some kind of revelation of shared history and/or some kind of deeper reason behind the snow.

Honestly, I’m still not liking the new gen. It just always feels so rushed and not even fully completed { plot wise } The art Work in the backgrounds were beautiful! I loved seeing the wonderbolt art work once again, I honestly miss the old way Gen 4 was drawn out and animated. I just don’t thing the new style fits. But that’s just me, I really do hate how they add a song in ever ten or so seconds. Which is just annoying - 😭. I miss it when they actually wrote semi good lore And dangerous moments, like nightmare moons first appearance & backstory. Seeing the emotion, the passion into the art. And expressions, you could actually feel it at times of course. Especially when they first debuted discord too. You just never knew what he was up Too, which made him more interesting. It feels like everything is just getting to childish now a days. :,,)

@@gerardorodriguez7500 I mean, the storylines for each movie were very cliche and predictable, not very deep. There wasn't much in the way of character development or worldbuilding. It was literally just a child-friendly high school drama repainted with MLP human characters. EG was literally just a plug for Hasbro to compete with Monster High. So, in terms of marketing, I don't think a G5 EQ is likely. And it's probably for the best, given the backlash it got from the brony community.
