I had cervical spine fusion surgery in 2009. My traps were frozen between my shoulder blades and around the fusion in my neck. Nothing my Physical Therapist tried relieved the frozen cinder block like muscle. She suggested dry needling. Gradually, after two weeks of treatment, the traps fully relaxed, the spasms were resolved and the tension & pain dissipated. Note: The PT warned me that sometimes the insertion of the needle, triggers an active muscle spasm with the muscle clinching and grabbing at the needle. That did happen once and it was really painful. The PT simply backed off the needle a bit without removing it and the active spasm and grabbing stopped.

I went to PT to recover from my ORIF Olecranon surgery (snapped my elbow off in a fall) and told my Physical Therapist about the pain in my shoulder during therapy. He did offer 'Dry Needling' and it did help a lot with my pain. Went from a 6/7 pain level to about 3/4 and has stayed at that level. I do have a severe Rotator Cuff tear and will have surgery in a couple of weeks. Will be going back to the same Physical Therapist for recovery. Just my experience and know others may vary.

Is there anything else that can help speed up recovery after RC surgery? Are peptide injections or Platelet Rich Plasma injections worth it? thanks

Hey Joe, it is hard to know. There have been a few studies that suggest PRP given during the procedure may improve healing. Please consider joining our newsletter. Just email me at dro@mybodyprotector.com and put yes in the subject line and we will get you set up with a few tip sheets as well!

Doc why do patients lose ROM after rotator cuff repair surgery? what are the reasons behind it?
@rotatorcuffexpert6 ай бұрын
Hey Kiklocus, There are many reasons but I think one of the big ones is the swelling due to inflammation. Any time we do surgery we perform "controlled trauma". That trauma creates pain and inflammation. Those two create an environment where stiffness is a byproduct. Hope you are doing well.

i accidentally put my shoulder in an awkward position 9 weeks post op, felt a sharp pain and it was sore after, have i likely undone any of the surgery e.g torn the tendon from the sutures? or can the anchors withstand this?
@rotatorcuffexpert6 ай бұрын
Hey Haz, Hopefully not. Typically at 9 wks you are not completely healed, but have a good amount of healing. A lot depends on how bad your tear was and how easy/hard the repair was.
