Oh my goodness this is exactly where my neck pain is. I pray my dry needling session next weeknhelps and hopefully he stivkd the needle in this exact spot. I'm always concerned about the needle touching a vessel, vein or something like that.

This is not acupuncture. This is strictly trigger point dry needling. Just want to clarify that there is a difference.

Absolutely agree Jessica. Certainly a difference, and I won't claim to be doing acupuncture without training in eastern philiosophy and treatment principles.

This is ancupunture for balancing. The difference of dry needling is the needle goes to the muscle deeper. Again this is not a dry needling!

Hi Milos, It depends a little on what country you are referring to. Sometime's it's just the semantics of terminology, other times the term 'medical acupuncture' is used by those who integrate some of the Chinese medicine principles in their needling approach, but are themselves trained in western medical philosophy.

Yes, there's lots to be concerned with at the neck, so it is very important to remain in the muscle belly and not to penetrate through the deep side.

I'm physiotherapist..I'm doing dry needling ..what if swelling occurs after SCM needling?

Can you give me a bit more detail? Where did the swelling occur? Any signs of bruising? Is it just local around the needle, or did it pool below the needling site?

Hi, I originally took a course in 'Western Medical Acupuncture' in the UK circa 2007, but my practice now certainly aligns more to dry needling, and doesn't claim to be acupuncture. I'm now based in Australia, so I'm not sure if they're still running courses. Hope that helps.
