✓ Video 3 - How to warm up before doing a maximum breath-hold attempt
• Maximum Breath Hold - ... (this video your watching now)
OK, so this is a tip on how to get a longer dry static. A dry static is holding your breath on dry land as apposed to the water.
Myself and a friend (who has never freedived before) both used this method to hold our breaths over 4 minutes.
1. Get a relaxing song you like that is similar in length to your target breath hold time.
2. Do a breathup for atleast 2 mins. If you dont know how to do the breath up, watch this video: • Freediving Breathe Up ...
3. Exhale all air, Finial deep breath to 95%-99% of your lung capacity
4. HOLD
5. 0- 2 minute period, visualize yourself diving down, and focus on the music.
6. Relax through your first contractions, dropping your chin when they occur.
7. 2-3 minute period, Yours feeling more uncomfortable now, so don't think about your breath hold, focus on the music and imagine yourself diving perfectly.
8. 3-4 minute period, focus on the end of the song, imagine you are returning to the surface from your dive. Wait till the song ends before breathing.
9. Recovery breathing
10. Repeat this process at least 3 times, focus on your 3rd attempt to be your MAX
Songs I often use: Blank and Jones - Chilled Cream, Orbital - Halcyon

Nothing special about that. I take 2-3 deep breaths with slow exhalations before the breath hold. Key to 5 minutes is purely in CO2 tolerance and relaxation, which you can train.

Hey man, Gabriel from Romania here.I've watched your videos (very nice and a big thank you for it). So i'm a former smoker (heavy smoker i could say)quit smoking 2 months ago, started took a class in freediving, woke up at 6:45 in the morning to do training, followed you advice and also some other techniques to boost my breath hold time, and now the results:i'm very comfortable with breath holds between 3:00 and 3:30 with a personal best of 3:50 and next day 4:01 still working on my DYN@ the pool.

Thanks mate - Great videos!! I'm just getting into freediving and signed up for an intro class that I'll be taking on an upcoming trip to Bonaire. After watching your video my first try got me 1:35 (sitting in a chair) - After the fourth attempt (with breathups) I got 3:15! You have a new subscriber!! Cheers and kindest regards from the USA!

Drew Harper 1 second ago So I went from a dry static of 1:45 to 3:40 within two days using your techniques. Ive realized that my largest obstacle is dealing with contractions and learning to stay calm through them and know that I can still hold my breath well past when the contractions become more rapid. Thanks for all the advise! My song is If It Means A Lot To You by A Day To Remember.

Thank you for the video! My husband and his brother have been scuba diving and I'm intimidated by all the equipment, this (free diving) feels much more natural. I take suggestion VERY well. You have provided a suggestion so I will be able to put in action whatever you say, so I appreciate how you've not put limits (only suggested minimums) on how long one should start with and aim for. You are gifted. I see You.

I saw a caption for this song that stated it was scientifically designed to induce sleep like sensations, which would automatically slow your breathing and enhance calmness, excellent choice! I use it to "anchor", which is what he is suggesting in this video, brilliant!

congratulations David. An increasing number of people are doing longer dry statics these days - I think its because people are practicing dry statics much more - so im not suprised. I will say this, my very first wet static on the very first day learned freediving was 4:20, no previous practice or training. I have still not beaten that on dry land.

Really helpfull. Years after setting my record @ ~3' on my own and then have stopped training and lost all my capacity, I've been able to reach 2' 44" and 3' 16" on my 1st and 2nd consecutive attempts. Try to fill your lungs as much as you can then take short breaths till 100% and hold for 5" repeat 4-5 times, then hiperventilate for 30-60" and then breath up for 1-2'. Relax, listen to the music (I use caribbean blue-Enya) and imagine you're diving. Worked great for me

Don't worry about others man. Just focus on yourself - i have found that very useful in freediving. if you are concerned about others - one of 2 things might happen - you get frustrated that others are better than you, and give upi. Or you beat the others and you get a big head. ((both have happened to me)). Your personal best is your target - its your body - its unique to you - focus on yourself. Good luck man - I know you will do well!

Well... for someone who could barely hold their breath under water for 20 seconds... Maybe less kicking and swimming around... I sure have noticed a huge improvement after these videos. Was able to stay under water in the pool for about a minute... my body doesn't feel like it needs to breath air or panic like it used to. Feel way more relaxed underwater following these tips. I just found these videos today, went out and tried it in the back yard in the pool and... I was pretty impressed with myself even if it was just a minute lol. Like I said, I struggled to do 20 seconds before.... Thanks =)

Thank you so much. This really worked. I just did 2:15 fairly easy. I have held my breath before but almost every time around 1:15 mark, sometimes earlier, I would start losing my motivation and give up because it seemed it was impossible for me to continue. I'd like to add that maybe the cause was partially fear that I might be more prone to blacking out. I have Diabetes Type 1 and I am insulin dependant and since I haven't had a chance to meet any freedivers with the same condition, it is really hard to find any valid information if people with diabetes are more likely to BO or experience BOs earlier. So I have no other option but really experience with my own body and try to see what feels comfortable and right.I didnt have any motivation problems on this try and it seemed incredibly easy until 1:45 and I was still able to push through until 2:15!!! Yay!!! I will keep doing everything exactly as described in your videos and can't wait to see if I can improve my breath hold even more. Also important to add is that I am new to freediving and have only done one Basic Freedivng course, several open water dives but no dives deeper than 10m. I am however getting ready for AIDA 2 Star Freediver course and all your videos have helped me immensely. Keep up the good work. You are a great freediver but also a very good youtube freediving instructor. :-)

Headshooter - congratulations, that is an amazing time!! This Guano apes song is really fast, listening to this might raise your heart rate. the idea is the listen to a song that will help you slow your heart rates. Regardless, listen to any music helps take your mind off the breathhold, and it worked - so well done! I would say 3:53 is definitively above average for a beginner!

Hey dude, been swimming heaps in my pool just doing as much as i can underwater. did a build up to my max attempt (still waiting on your video to see how i should prepare for a max wet static properly :) ) on 3rd attempt i didn't bother doing a proper breathe up because i was short on time. So i was relaxed and found myself counting dots on the bottom of the pool, when i finally realised i had counted to quite a high number i looked at my stopwatch 4:08. couldn't believe it. Yeah i know its not a real comparison anyhow they really couldn't be bothered holding there breath haha but my housemate is a keen spearfisher so i'd like to be able to give that a go properly. So I tried your method did dry statics for like half n hour and notched up a 3:40, went down to the pool was by myself so didn't want to push too hard and still got 3:20 so as far as i'm concerned you're the man for uploading these videos cause they work something fierce! plus felt i relaxed as could be!

I've been trying for about two or three weeks holding my breath, and I'm trying to get better. My best has been 2 minutes, which I've gotten a few times now. I tried your methods and just reached 3:05. I thought it was a lot easier too and probably could have gotten even better. The breathups seem to help a lot, and the music is relaxing Thanks for the video :)
