In this video we drybrush a wall, this common piece of terrain gets overclocked with fluorescent paints to show you how you can achieve incredible, striking results FAST! The best part is this is done with just a drybrush, we spend a lot of time telling people that we don't use an airbrush to achieve this effect :)!

I cant praise this company and these brushes enough. I ordered the series S set for myself last year and due to an unfortunate shipping error, received the series D instead. Artis Opus let me KEEP the series D AND sent me a series S. I have to say that I use the drybrushes as much or MORE than the series S brushes. They are amazing and just having them in my painting toolbox has encouraged me to try techniques that I never would have tried without them. Truly amazing company and product!

I happened to watch your video a year ago and I started it. I was so lost in time that I was watching the video.He always sleeps late because he always makes me do something. This work is not common in Asia, so it took six months to get paint and tools. I don't have any knowledge, I'm buying and throwing it away, and now I've got some tools and I'm using them, but I can't get a drybrush. I am Korean. I'd like to know how to buy a drybrush. I'm learning hard, but my skills aren't improving. I'll try harder.Thank you so much for the good video.

This could work on ghosts and energy beings, as well as scenery. The purple seems unintuitive, until you take a look at the colour wheel. It's not just that the shadows are actually purple, but looking at a bright light tricks your brain into 'correcting' the unlit area, like if you looked at a light bulb, and have a negative after image.
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 4 жыл бұрын
I've never given it so much in-depth thought, it's just something that I tried and knew it worked. It's great to know the reasons why it does though. Thank you! 😊

@@ArtisOpus It may work in the other direction. If the wall was grey, that same green-white would look opaque and dull, like a covering of lichen. Exaggerating the shadows tricks your brain, to thinking your eyes have been overloaded by the green-white, misinterpreting it as a light-emitting source. Either way, it's an optical illusion. Any opticians in the thread want to weigh in?

Very nice effect. I'd love to see a similar approach but with 2 contrasting colours. Like a cyberpunk city lit by neon. Maybe a magenta light source from 1 direction and a cyan light source contrasting from a different direction. Do you think that would be possible with this technique?
@ArtisOpus

@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Will, great question... and quite a difficult one to answer. The first time I did this it was basically picking my favourite types of [colour] and putting them in a row, the ones I chose are deep, colour well over black, and play nice! Some paints drybrush better than others, which is why you see our favourites pop up frequently! That is awesome to hear, there's actually incredible potential in doing this technique in greyscale, and then selectively washing/highlighting areas (Sin-City style) if you want to do something really striking, red works perfectly, but you could pick anything you liked... as there's no other colours to mess with your pallet :).

This is impressive...I will throw my airbrush away and drybrush everything if I can do this ;) I have the exact same scenery, still unpainted. Could you make some videos about some different colour schemes on the same terrain pieces?
@ArtisOpus

That's a big claim, keep hold of it, we'll combine our technique with airbrushing in the future! We most certainly can, what would you like to see? Fluorescent still? :)
@MentoliptusBanko
@MentoliptusBanko 4 жыл бұрын
@@ArtisOpus I was definitely not serious...I still have uses for my airbrush for non-terrain minis ;) Looking forward to the combined technique. I'm sure it'll be amazing! I'd like to see non-fluorescent colour combinations too, like grey stone or beige stone. I recently purchased those Vallejo fluorescent paints for OSL effects, so fluorescent colours are also an option :)

You said about how you could do an orange version of this - what colours would you swap round for this? purple > blue > green > yellow makes sense to me but for a more orange finish how would you adjust?
@ArtisOpus

Hey Robin, sorry for the delay! Did you check our new pink-peachy wall? For orange, we'd start in the same way but head towards fluorescent orange and finish with fluorescent yellow 😊

100% - We're surprised at the amount of requests we're getting for doing this in different schemes! Conveniently we've produced a load before, so this is definitely something we can make happen in the near future. We've just done a space wolf video, I've got some ideas on what colours you could use from that, if you wanted to do any torches lighting doorways etc you'd get a *gorgeous* contrast too. Give us some time, this is a great idea, it's in 'The List'. :)

Just stumbled across your video and the result is mindblowing, especially when the technique is so simple! I asked myself if it wuld be possible to do it the other way around also e.g. black walls with an orange glow from beneath, like there is a lava stream flowing near by on the bottom? I was thinking of doing some kind of a Barad Dûr themed black wall? how would you accomplish that using your technqiues and what colours would you use for it? Keep rockin' :)
