I make a good tasting detox tea for my husband using Mint, lemon, orange. Strain it good & add honey while tea is still warm. Refrigerate & serve cold, it’s refreshing and very good for the liver!

My favorite uses for mint are in stuffed peppers or stuffed cabbage both with a tomato base. Absolutely delicious!

My Lovie and I just started Dehydrating and we really appreciate your instructions and sense of humor. We have found in a short period of time the exact thing you keep repeating about time; "Time doesn't matter!" So, we set it to 24hrs and go from there checking it about every 6 or so. Thank you for creating all of this for us!!!

I just started dehydrating with a different multi use appliance. And works. I used some orange & lemon slices success. I found a silicone spatula with fringed. End to clean the dust from the blender & grinder. And the citrus dust clings to the silicone. And used a clear ziplock bag over the top cover of the grinder to keep all the dust out of the cover. Thx. So much for all your info.

I've harvested a pint jar of thyme this year, so far, and I've got a haft pint almost full of oregano. I have a full pint of dried sage and almost a quart of parsley. My herbs have almost out produced the vegetables in my tiny backyard garden.

It was a great year for herbs in my garden, too. Hardly any peppers and tomatoes. Oh well!

Everything you are saying is what I have heard all my life about drying herbs! Seems I was taught correctly. I started growing my own herbs to create my own blends and in order to control salt content.

You can get thyme leaves from the store as well which aren’t bad…depends where you get it but I always have thyme from my garden as well…. I just cut it and put it in a big wooden bowl and turn it a couple f times a day then strip the leave once it is dry. I it’s one of my favorite herbs to use….I use it as a tea as well….My dehydrator doesn’t go low enough and I’d rather not risk it getting over done.

If you lived close to me, I could give you lots of thyme. I’ve grown different kinds of thyme because I would have to replace them every year. I now have a variety that has survived two winters outside in a big planter and is thriving. I think it’s German thyme. I love growing and harvesting my own herbs and plan to grow more next year.

Just at the right time otherwise I will have to either have a mega cooking session with the fresh mint or throw the remainer. The Tyme is also a future candidate.

You can buy spice jars of thyme leaves, instead of the ground thyme. Thanks for sharing how you dry your herbs. I just got a new dehydrator, and can't wait to do herbs in it. Love your videos!
@ThePurposefulPantry
@ThePurposefulPantry 3 жыл бұрын
You can, but the issue is still the same. It's old, not always fresh, and you often don't know how long it's been sitting on the shelf before you are buying it. Thus - if possible, it's great to be able to do it yourself.

Yes, but thaw them first, and don't do them if you've preserved in oil.

We have purchased 4 dryers couple brands. Nice because more flexibility. BUT I have a 2 questions: 1. Have used Oxygen absorbers/dryer packets. Others say you can reuse after baking moisture out in the oven. Store in air tight jar. Have you ever used a dryer to do the recycling of the absorbers? 2. What are your thoughts on using a clean/new folded paper towel/or printer paper inside of a jar with dried items. Thought being that the paper will absorb moisture if any is left keeping it away from food AND the paper acids etc. will act as a mold inhibitor? (Thinking fold a small sheet clean new paper or paper towel into a small packet and use one staple to hold it together. Staple zinc coated also acts as moisture collector/rusting.) You thoughts and channel are EXCELLENT!! THANK YOU!!

Oxygen absorbers are one and done. Please read this info on using either, and how to recharge desiccant packs. www.thepurposefulpantry.com/how-to-store-dehydrated-foods/ 2. No. Because the goal is not to absorb whatever moisture is left. The goal is to dry fully in the first place, condition, then store without the aid of anything. Desiccant packs are to help with whatever moisture might be introduced into your jars or containers from continual opening and introduction of moisture that way.

I froze a lot of my sage this past year just the sprigs in Ziploc bags so the air was out. Can I still dehydrate is to make a sage rosemary blend of dried herbs? I sell herb blends and herbs salts by local farmers market and I have tons of sage left. I have some rosemary plants that are fresh so I was wondering if I dehydrated both that they would still taste good

Have you thought of vacuum sealing the mason jars. If not why?
@ThePurposefulPantry
@ThePurposefulPantry 2 жыл бұрын
lol - you don't know my channel well. Yes, I vacuum seal when I feel it's necessary for long-term storage, but I don't do it for everything. It's not necessary and a step I choose not to take because I'm already using airtight containers.

Do you ever vacuum seal the air out of your herbs jars.? I do feel makes the herbs stay fresher.
@ThePurposefulPantry
@ThePurposefulPantry 3 жыл бұрын
No - I rotate through them often enough that I don't see the point. I also don't store my herbs in large jars - they are compacted into the smallest jar possible.
