Too wet outside? too expensive to run the tumble drier? Clothes on heating radiators making the air damp and fogging up windows?

Surely a DEhumidifier is what you’d need for this?

I had an old Ebac dehumidifier, but I've just bought the Meaco 12l and 20l Low Energy dehumidifiers, mainly for non-laundry use, but I'll certainly be using them to dry my washing. They certainly seem to be very efficient and not too noisy, but in the end I prefer a little bit of noise over an awful lot of damp.

I'm lucky in that the CH boiler is in the garage which is partitioned off so it's a winter laundry room. When the heating is on our laundry dries in a few hours. The door is vented too.

Its a dehumidifier and a good one like the newer Meaco runs at just 200w and will cost less than many fridge freezers to run. We have a spare room set up as our drying area. The physics of the process is pretty simple, keep the humidity in the room low the faster the moisture will evaporate off the items needing to dry. While this would actually work quite quickly in a normal room anyway, once you have dried a few sets of clothes the humidity in the house will raise and not only slow the process down considerably but also form condensation and eventually mold. We love ours..its a game changer for winter drying. Just make sure to buy the right type of dehumidifier. The cheaper ones are less effective and will cost more to run. The Meaco Arete one in different sizes is just about the best you can get and looks great.

We bought a Meaco Arete 12L over a week ago, brilliant bit of kit. We shut it in a room when drying laundry and just open the door to dehumidify the rest of the house when the laundry is done. This has now freed all the downstairs radiators to give us humans the heat rather than the clothes, it has also taken away all the water that formed on the bottom of the windows, thus removing the forming of mould. If it was me I would have one running downstairs and one upstairs (2 x 10L ones) but have just about managed to persuade my wife in having one in the first place 🙂. This one of ours runs at 165 W max ( the high speed fan only increases the usage by 10W btw), we also have 2 electric tariffs, so for 7 hours after 11pm it's costing us 15p total and if it ran constant (which it doesn't) for the other 17 hours it is costing us 99p total, can't complain for that amount. The radiators definitely heat the downstairs quicker as it's drier air. I can't believe we didn't get one years ago !! Also don't forget to give an extra spin for the win !

I've just started using a dehumidifier to help with drying washing and it really does make a difference to the drying time.

I bought a spin dryer to take more water out of the laundry after they're out of the washer. Also great for if you hand wash. Dehumidifier would dry them even faster. I sometimes hang clothes in the greenhouse too.

i use a heated dehumidifier, also known as a tumble drier. does not cost more as most stuff is crease free when removed as soon as it has finished so do not spend hours with an iron. probably saves money with the amount of time it takes me to iron stuff.

I’ve transformed my boiler cupboard or airing cupboard put a hanger bar inside to dry anything, the boiler is a combo boiler and it’s always warm in the airing cupboard, It takes sometimes a whole day or a day and a half to dry, and it’s free apart from the bar and two end slots to fit inside the airing cupboard cost around £3/5👍🏻

Wonder what the pros and cons of a dehumidifier with top vs front facing fan are? The bigger commercial ones seem to have the fan front facing rather than top on many of the domestic models sold.

Yes, you mean a 'dehumidifier' unless you want to increase dampness but why pay for the extra electricity? I put my airer by a slightly open window which has a radiator on low beneath it. In the old days the water collected by the dehumidifier was always useful for car batteries and steam irons but batteries are now sealed for life - I suppose you could always drink it... maybe not!
@InArcadiaSum
@InArcadiaSum 8 ай бұрын
Meaco advise not to drink the collected water, but do suggest that it can be used to water non-edible plants i.e. houseplants etc. Probably still good for steam irons, though.
