I’m a proud union drywall finisher. I love it because people always seem to be blown away at what we do and how effortlessly we make it look (after years of practice of course) also, as a finisher, u can always get faster, cleaner, and better. Better meaning less lines, and edges

I love the video nice work I my self is a drywall finisher and the curve to the knife is very important when u put mud on when u apply the tape u want the curve up for applying and curve down when pulling excess mud from tape

hot mud + normal joint compound helps with skimcoats on the first pass because it produces less bubbles over painted surfaces. Skimcoats can then be applied with topping compound on the 2nd coat.

If use a hand held electric mixer when mixing powder mud, it mixed it faster and nicer giving you more time to apply it. Less miss, less fuss. Makes that part easier. You can get one at a thrift store, cuz let's be honest, you aren't going to ever make a cake with that mixer ever again. LoL.😉

Gonna say the 1 part hot to 1 part regular w/ water, then another 50% regular mud you can easily apply your work and by the time you've finished your third pan of mud, your starting work will be setting up. Make it faster with a fan. Cheers bro, Louise knows whats up. Proud 1891 Union.

also around 9:20 he mentions how his knife bends a way.. That is common and normal, every knife will be concave slightly in a direction, he is applying it with the curve towards the ceiling, to avoid the drag marks from the side of his knife.

There's alot of good tips here. Especially the strainer. Mudding is hard for me id rather do plumbing.

Interested in the horizontal metal strapping, is that common practice? Working on remodeling a my 1950s home, getting all of old framing plumb, flat and square. Seems like a good idea

Those channels were used to mitigate sound travel through the walls. They were pricey given they are rubber mounted, etc. Might be able to duplicate the idea with wood strapping in your remodel to help with flattening for a more reasonable cost.

If he got himself a knockdown knife, he could do it faster, as the blade is 24” with a long handle, making it so u knockdown more area, and the long handle makes it so u can reach standard height ceilings from the floor

Pretty basic stuff for drywall tapers....homeowners not so much....learned these skills taping over the years and am not a drywall guy....just doing my own remodels as a contractor.....hot mud sets quick but doesn't dry any faster than reg mud......texture is easier and cheaper as doesn't require more finish coats or sanding.....very forgiving

surprised he doesn't know they make knockdown knifes for the sheer purpose of knockdown texture 12'' to 36''. 10 times easier and quicker than using your metal or stainless knifes
