In this video I will take you through our method of installing Drywall. Its not as simple and straight forward as some make it out to be. This method will help you to understand the very basics of hanging drywall and how we hang it as professionals. We will take you through the basics of how drywall panels are designed, how to fasten it appropriately, and why its so important to do so. Installing drywall efficiently and accurately will make it much easier when its time to finish.

Great channel. I was watching a video earlier today where a guy was trying to make his house more air tight and better insulated. In the attic, he was wading through all the blown-in insulation to find all top plates of all the walls. He would then spray foam the seam where the drywall meets the top plate. Apparently this is a sneak path for air to escape from your pressurized living space through electical outlets, up the cavity behind the drywall and out to the attic through that drywall/top plate seam. So putting a continuous bead of foam adhesive on the top plate when installing the vertical drywall would further seal your interior from your vented attic. Minimum effort at the drywall stage, pain in the butt after. Also, penetrations in the top plate for wires and pipes need sealing. The boxes for the can lights are a great idea. Any other ideas for sealing other ceiling penetrations like air vents?

@@markstipulkoski1389 I dont know who's video you watched earlier, but he is absolutely correct. Thats a commonly overlooked area and can create a stack effect if not properly air sealed. You are also correct that adding drywall adhesive aids in this challenging area. As for the boxes for the can lights, I have a full video tutorial on that if you want to check that out as well. Anything that penetrates the ceiling or top plate needs completely air sealed. Most think that using IC Rated "Air Tight" Recessed housings for lighting is a great option, because they are "Air tight". They are incredibly leaky and difficult to air seal. Thats why we use the method I outlined in this video. We use a lot of spray foam and sealants to seal these penetrations. Bath vent fans get a blob of spray foam encapsulating the entire housing. All of these steps can help tremendously!

@@markstipulkoski1389 Also I forgot to address air vents. We use alot of tape, mastic, and spray foam around the registers for this. This is also another reason we like ductless mini splits. No air ducts? No air leakage!

@@miillersconstructionI am a nearly retired electical engineer who has been consuming channels like yours to educate myself on building techniques in preparation to being a owner-builder in a couple of years. My current baseline is ICF to the roof and a sealed conditioned attic. The roof would have exterior rigid foam insulation and 1 inch of closed cell spray foam under the roof deck, mostly for air ceiling. So if I go that route, I wouldn't have to worry about creating an air barrier at the ceiling. It may be a more expensive that way but as a homeowner, I am feed up with the standard vented attic and blown in insulation. I have zone dampers in the attic and they have been sticking. I've been having to go up in all that cellulose to free them. I replaced them, and the new ones are doing the same thing. Over the years, dust from the outside will cover the cellulose, and pests may set up shop. All my ductwork is up there also, sweating in the Florida humidity. Just in case my budget only allows for the conventional vented attic, I wanted to know the best way to do that as well. My plan is also to use mini-splits and an HRV. Returns will be in the bathroom and kitchen. Large mechanical room for easy access to the HRV, heat pump water heater and solar equipment. Great video. I will "like and subscribe" and probably end up binge watching your content. Thanks for replying. I figured I wasn't telling you anything new about sealing the drywall to the top plate, but it was fresh in my mind and you didn't happen to mentioned it.✌️👍

If you use butt boards get the trimtex product that pulls back the edges so its similar to a tappered edge. This isnt as good and they arent much. I think a couple bucks per board.
