One of the magical things I love about your channel is thay you empower DIYers, you mentioned “a little bit of experience and practice with this you can do a better job than I did”. Sir I just got my first routary tool, not for drywall but for dremel but want to use that for practice for when I do the drywall ceiling one day :)

That foam does come in handy. Found some big gaps when I removed the wainscoting. Filled them with foam, applied the 45, sanded then primed & painted. Perfect every time. 😉

I use graph paper when I map out the rooms ( actually did it for my whole house). I can then track square footage, number of sheets of subfloor, and drywall, door frame sizes, wiring and lighting. 2 ft per square. That drywall "machine" was really cheap to rent at the local hardware sore as well and although I had help because the machine IS heavy. I could have installed all of it myself otherwise.

I swear it's like you are making videos for my DIY work sometimes. Timing is impeccable. Removing popcorn ceiling drywall and made decision to insulate main floor ceiling and strap it before re-drywalling. I may rent a lift and do it myself, but it included a fairly wide living room so I'll have end joints. Thinking I'll drywall myself and let the pros tape and mud.
@morlamweb

For lifting the panels into place, I'd first recommend buying the lightweight panels if your budget allows, as it makes a difference for the DIYer doing a whole ceiling. I opted for the help-from-a-neighbor route, as it was far less costly (a case of beer) vs renting a drywall lift. I also installed the last panel, a 30 in by 96 in piece, myself. I first fastened a 2x4 to the wall near one end of the panel; lifted one end of the panel onto the 2x4 "shelf"; then walked the other end into position by climbing up a ladder. Then I started fastening the board from one end to the other. The wall, of course, just has a couple of holes in it, which you can easily patch with joint compound.

Another good tip is to lock at least one of the wheels of the drywall lift it keeps it from sliding out while ur trying to set the drywall on the lift. Also can use a small scrap piece and chock the wheel so u can kick it out of the way if it doesn’t have locks or they are hard to use
@chuckg2016

The drywall lift; the best invention since the wheel. Have done 10' ceilings with 10', 5/8" fire rated panels alone by using the lift. Not fun or easy but I never do ceilings anymore without the lift.

I always take a video and photos before adding the drywall as a reference after the fact. Also, I’ve used a plumb on a string to mark the centre of lights on the floor, and just reversed the process after the drywall goes up. So much easier, no arrows and measurements on the drywall.

When I drywalled my basement ceiling, I had the furring strips run end-to-end, space 12 inches on center, and doubling up every 4 ft so that the edges would be well-supported. then I drew lines down the length of each panel every 12 in. The lines make it dead simple to install the screws (and yes, I used 1.25 in screws!) There's no guesswork involved in fastening the panel.

legal secondary suites need fire separation. That requires a complete fire rated ceiling and many other upgrades to accomplish. best to get a permit and invite the inspector on site to discuss what they want to see when finished. politics and building code collide on this issue so it may be easier than you think depending on your unique situation and region. Cheers!

Did you hire someone new to edit your videos? After every sentence there is no natural pause. It gets chopped out and abruptly starts the next sentence. They usually do that for speakers who make alot of mistakes, and "ummms." But you have always been flawless on video. Why are you starting to do this ? It's actually so distracting, I dont think I can watch your videos anymore if this continues.

It is very disconcerting that there are no clips that is NAILED at the top of the WALL so it's haning against the wall. Once the drywall is clipped and parallel to the wall all you have to do is lift the drywall up and into the ceiling and use a block for the other side and nall it up. You want to take an elephant to push a child's tricycle!!!

So you have all that drywall weight hanging from straps you nailed up. Happy sagging.
@andyprairiedog
@andyprairiedog Жыл бұрын
I was wondering about that too from his previous video how the straps were held in place. I do ceiling joists a little different than him as I keep all my ceiling flush with spacers between each joist for alignment and placing screws. I use I-joists rated for the length of ceiling run with no support. Also have 'blockers' on the edges so it does not float like on his edge near the ends. Even though I know the walls' drywall will help hold it up as well when lifted off the floor 1/8" to 1/4" gap at floor, no gap on top. Base board will cover that gap, any minor water damage will not be soaked up by the drywall.
