I was sitting outside enjoying the evening when dad popped out and sat next to me. This wonderful conversation ensued. Dad was relaxed and content even as the dementia steals his vocabulary and blurs his focus. He remains happy and grateful just to be conversing with his son. A bit of Sundowning toward the end when he talks college but a very fulfilling interaction for both of us.

I absolutely adore Grandpa. Dr. Salinger really cheers me up . I’m a Doctor and an officer in the Medical Corps of the Israeli Defence Forces ( Israeli Navy ) , sadly I’ve recently been diagnosed with both Pancreatic Cancer, and early onset of dementia. Whenever I’m down , or in pain , I watch Dr. Salinger and the entire Salinger family , and I feel so much better . Dr.Ed Salinger is not just a “ National Treasure “ in the U.S.A, but he’s a treasure to the entire World. Much love and peace to Grandpa Ed & the entire Salinger family , from Dr.Kästien in Tel Aviv , Israel 🇮🇱 ❤

Thats proof that when he was a young father of six there were times he was very worried to make ends meet or worried about his daughters at certain ages.. my dad was awefully worried when with Alzheimer, he kept having to go to work.. we had to show his bank account and birthdate to make him understand that he is now in the state that all that is behind him and he is retired.. can buy what he want and no work needed.. we had to do that time after time after time.. i feel guilty that daddy was so worried when i was a kid 😢

Well he’s a college graduate, I know today people undermine college degrees because there are so many fly by night programs that allow people to basically pay for a ‘degree’, & then you have the colleges that aren’t as strenuous as the elite universities that are still here today. My father had Alzheimer’s….one time he told me not to go in the bathroom, I said why? He said because there’s the ugliest old man in there you’ve ever seen 😂😂 talking about seeing himself in the mirror…. Another time I had been in the service and was in Vietnam….I had come home and was sitting next to him and he asked who I was, I said I’m your daughter…he said no, no she’s far away…I said no dad I’m right here…he looks at me and said “how did you get here so fast”….many funny but sad stories…bless you Dan for keeping your dad at home with you!

God bless you! My dad passed away in 2019 at the age of 82 from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's and it was such a hard thing to see him go that's the only day I didn't see him was the night before he died and he passed away in the early morning hours and it has bothered me ever since. I know he knows I love him but I wasn't there for him when he was passing and I've always felt that I let him down😢😢😢

It's been a while since you wrote that but I just read it and wanted to tell you not you be so hard on yourself. You were there for your dad whenever you could be ,I'm sure and he must have known you loved him. My mother passed away 12 years ago. I lived in a different country and flew back in time to spend the last few days with her. I was there when she died but still regretted all the years I wasn't there because of work and family commitments. I was alone with her at the end but seated in a chair out of her sight. It plagued me for years that she might have thought I'd left her . Finally I came to realise, she would never want me so feel so bad and I learned to let go of the regret and guilty feelings. Be kind to yourself Its not about what you didn't do that one time. Remember the good times. ❤

I'm in a parenting group chat here in Ghana, West Africa. The group admin shared a video of Dr. Salinger and Dan. I was so happy to see it as I've been a fan of Grandpa for a couple of weeks now. I've binge watched most of the videos on this channel. My absolute favorite is when he replies "I'm Ninety-one?", with a smile always. You're really touching lives with your videos and I personally appreciate how you've opened up your family to the rest of the world. I wish you the very best Mr. Daniel Salinger( we're not used to calling people by their first names especially if they're older than us) , your wife and kids. From a fan in Ghana. First time leaving a comment.

I believe Ed is showing what his main priorities were over his lifetime with each question he asks. Dan is doing a wonderful job being patient and answering the same questions repeatedly every minute or two. My dad is like this when he is in the car with me going to one of his doctors. I think they are looking for security and to feel safe when they are asking, "Where are we going? Who are we seeing? Why are we going?". It still works while my dad knows who I am. I dread the day he doesn't and I can't make him feel safe like I can now. Dan great job showing how it is really like

As a Ghanaian in my mid-sixties, I spend time going over these interesting clips Dan Salinger has graciously made avaliable to the viewing world. It takes courage to open the doors of one's private life to the world and Dan has great courage of conviction. Grandpa Salinger's what? Pardon me? Am I 91? Where is mycar? Where is my wallet? and many others give us insight as to how dementia affects one as one grows older and older. Bless Dr Salinger.

When your dad said "You've earned it" made me cry because it's what most want to hear from their folks. I think it's synonymous with I'm proud of you. I think it's hard for them to say it sometimes, not wanting to feel boastful. So wonderful that he has you all.

I'm always amazed by how supportive grandpa's words are to his children, he's constantly praising there achievements. Yet people think only 'snowflake' generation are praised. proves yo me that my family are completely emotionally disconnected which grandpa proves isn't a generational issue.
