@BoardwalkAngel231 Thanks. And by financial, I mean living space... an older person isn't going to take much to take care of , but if you live in a small home that had 3 bedrooms and you have 2 kids and your partner, how are you going to be able to have that parent in your home!? So what I mean by financial is if everyone had a massive home with 8 bedrooms like Dan, then having your parent wouldn't be so bad... people have to realize this family worked hard for what they have but are also very blessed, the dad was a doctor with plenty savings and his kids are lawyer's and stuff they have alot of resources, most people do not have these things

@@Patrick_Ross for you to say the "end" comment is horrible! Some do suffer through Alzheimer's that's true, and of course nobody wants that for themselves or anyone else! But some do just fine for MOST of the illness also. This man is lovely and so is his family. Very rarely have we seen agitation and even then it's mild. He communicates well even though repetitive. He seems to never remember he's ill, so that's a wonderful blessing. He walks, talks, eats, let's needs be known... he's in great shape! Please don't comment things you don't think through

No one who cares their family members should EVER put them in a nursing home. Thirty+ years ago two of my siblings and I spent a day at a nursing home our late father was employed as a nurses aide. As he was supposedly working, a woman bound to a wheelchair rolled over to us. She stopped, looked at each of us and said "your father is the devil", then rolled away. That was the moment I realized just how evil that man truly was. Not only did he terrorize his children, he terrorized people who had no means of escape whatsoever. Never leave those you love in the "care" of strangers who watch over them in return for a paycheck, no matter their level of education or the "prestige" of the establishment.
@barrykelly2722
@barrykelly2722 11 ай бұрын
@covfefox6381 I wish that could happen. Of course, that is assuming the caregiver(s) don't have work or financial obligations. And that is assuming there is more than one caregiver. In a utopia world or a world where families were together and no one is required to work, that is a great way to care for the loved one. Sad we live in such a dysfunctional society. Very sad.

It is tough and no one REALLY understands unless they, too, have been a care giver. When my mother passed, I didn’t know what to do. I had spent every day with her. My children were 5 and 3 when she had a stroke. I was with her when she had the stroke and bc of the great care she received, I got 10 more years with her. She went from depression, to a fighter. She relearned how to walk and talk. She died on Oct. 21st and I think of her every day. This year will be 7 years and it still hurts. I will see her again, someday and we will continue our long talks and laugh like we used to….It was hard but I wouldn’t have changed a thing ❤❤❤

It’s hard to find the patience we need when caring for the older members of our family. My Mother was very ill for 8 years before she died. She would often get depressed and cry. Partly because she was on a lot of medication. Steroids for one thing. It was very difficult for her to be bedfast. She was the one that took care of everyone else, so it was so hard to watch her not really find her place. But as hard as it is, I am very happy to have been the one to be there to help my Dad and care for her. They were patient with the four kids they raised. I think it was the least we could do. I miss them so much.💔

He forgets,suffers from short time memory loss,but it's more like confusion at times.He asks who Dan is,but at the end he says"Dan"He always seems to know he's with somebody close;most likely family.And Dan is very good at reasuring him there's no need to worry about money & things like that.He most definitely feel the love & comfort at the end of the day.Blessings.

I can’t tell you how much these videos help me. My mother in law is only 57, lives with my wife and I, and has Alzheimer’s. Every day is a struggle for us, especially with a 4 year old and a 1 year old. We’ve had to put some of our plans on hold, but videos like this remind me that I’m doing the right thing. Thank you for your content, and please pray for my family❤

I’ve got an 11 and 8 year old and I’m my grandmas only help, she’s 87. It’s really difficult caring for children and elderly at the same time. Much time, I think it’s an honor to do for my grandma, what she did for me, since she raised me. A bonus is that my children are watching me to care for her, and I think this is important in shaping their values.

He laughs with a sweet sarcasm and said, "And you don't mind another guy living with you." Just so precious. I so get him. Thank you for taking time with him like you do. --------------------- My mother had dementia and she fell and we did not get the time with her that you are having. My momma only forgot me one time and when I told her I was her daughter, the relief that washed over her face. She said, "Oh! I am so glad. I have been waiting for you all day!" I just busted out crying when we left the hospital. Just knowing your dad is safe makes me feel good.

Dan, Thank you for sharing your story & your father with us. Dementia is a horrible disease & definitely a challenge on the family. We lost my mother in law to this disease as she deteriorated quickly back in 02/2021, I see so much of the characteristics in Ed that I saw in my mother in law with the short term memory loss; unfortunately we had limited tools, resources & knowledgement of how to handle this disease; which is why your Utube/TikTok’s are so important & relatable to many people! Thank you & your family for this content. 🌹

He always remembers that he was born in 1932. Amazing how in dementia one can hold onto some long term memory but forget what was said 2 minutes ago.. If my mom were still living she'd be 93. It hurts to think that she might be struggling to remember who she is and where the rest of her life has gone. It's a beautiful thing to see the love Ed's family has for him, and what a lovely man he is that still shines through.

Amazing how time flies. My grandpa was born in 1912 which would've made him 20 years older than Ed. When he was in his 70s he met my stepfather's grandpa who at that time was 95 year old and he was amazed. He kept telling the rest of the family "I just met a 95-year old man." Crazy thing about that guy was that he was 95 and smoked cigars--White Owl brand cigars. He was native Alaskan and always kept working in his village. Guess that's why he still got around well at 95 despite being a smoker. That was the 80s so he must've been born around 1890. I remember it like it was yesterday.

It seems the only thing that he never ever forgets is the year he was born. Dan, you are a good son. I teared up a bit when you told him he didn’t have to pay rent because he is family. And i like the way you always try to assuage his worries when you tell him some facts which makes him a bit worried, like telling him he sold his house, etc. And even to tell him that he is confused now but things will get clear in a few minutes. Firm, gentle and so patient. Your dad raised you well.
