The d12 is the closest sounding to refrence track i've heard yet... is it the room/microphone? There's no way it's flatter than studio monitors lol

I have both speakers and R1700 are much more clear and "monitor" sounding. Whats more important it has proper stereo soundstage which d12 lacks completely. I listen to r1700 at near max volume all the time which i rarely do on d12 cuz it just sound muddy. D12 has two modes "music" and "movie". Movie mode applies some strange shit to audio, bass becomes really powerful and messy and it also adds fake stereo effect . Music mode is ok, but r1700 are definitely better in terms of clarity. Also it is much more difficult to position d12 in a room for some reason as it causes too much resonance on nearby surfaces. It is possible though and d12 is a good solution for something like "kitchen boombox" but to be honest it is just "good" at best. r1700 on the other hand are amazing. But i think these speakers are just for completely different applications

Edifier D12 is a nice set-up for PC. just put it under the monitor like a sound bar, with a better output then the regular sound bar.

@@OnlyMadnessPain if you want a stereo go for r1700bt, if you want a compact (minimalist) go for the d12. mono is fine, i have both the d12 and the r1700bt. d12 for my work office, as my cubicle didn't have much space, this "fat soundbar" works out great. the r1700bt for my home pc. both of these have the same good sound. and...we surely talking about these 2 speakers right? 😁 unless you really want to go all out with dolby atmos dts 3d hi-fi 9.1, then this video isn't it 😊

@@andreasbernardi3654 I was talking about using D12 as a desktop speakers. U can do it Just split the input with proper cable into 2 separate jacks and u can have an stereo output out of 2x D12 Otherwise that's quite useless while (for example) gaming

You can add more treble, yes the tweeters are real, you can also remove some bass from the d12, it is sharing two mid drivers in a pretty small box. Also hence the smaller soundstage vs having a left and right speaker separated by over a meter

Not a good idea. The best way to get good 5.1 is to use 5 identical speakers with good horizontal dispersion and D12 is a really bad choice for this. Worst-case scenario, the 3 fronts being identical and the surrounds at least with the same signature sound (i.e. same brand, same series). The woofer size of the 5 speakers is crucial depending on the listening distance. Up to 1m distance from the speakers 5" woofer is fine, for a 1.5m distance you will need speakers with 6" woofers, for 2m you will need speakers with an 8" woofer. The best upgrade to a 5.1, is a 5.2, followed by a 5.4, followed by a 7.4.

A center speaker has its specific channel from 5.1 audio sources, but D12 built in stereo altogether, if you use it as center speaker, you might end up hearing all sound mixing together, worse space separation than a real 5.1 setup

@lawlaw76, its easy, just use an rca jack with y splitter on center output and put the splitted rca jacks to the input of d12, with that both channels of d12 will hav the center audio only..

I have both, mr4 is more detailed and smoother, d12 is more musical, it feels like v-frequency response, I really like the sound of both devices, you need to take both, and then leave what you like best
