Few KZbin Instructors have the ability to engage their audience into a flowing conversation putting the listener at ease to receive information. I watched the video once and got it. No extra information to draw one away from the subject at hand. I have never complemented an automotive you tuber.

Best video I have seen for a dsg oil change. The diagram made it for me. Didn’t realise that the plastic insert was an oveflow tube. Should make the service much easier knowing that. Cheers

Thank you Jonnnnnny, I would add that if you plan on doing the service more often I would actually recommend spending the extra 💰 a pump that holds the full 5L.

Most people who want a quick handle on the DSG oil level, may not have piping adapters and tubing to begin in the orthodox way by filling oil till it spills out. It would be more than useful to have a guide as to how to check the DSG oil level through the filter housing. Can anyone suggest a reason why it is not possible to do that?

My mechanic did the same thing as shown in video - drained old oil, changed the filter, put new oil (6L) from top, but didn't drain the excess oil, at the end. I'm also now afraid that I have over 6L of oil in the gearbox, or even more than that, because there is always at least 200-300g of old oil left in the gearbox. And everyone says that the maximum should be around 4,8-5L. Is it dangerous to drive a car with so much oil in the gearbox? Please answer me, thnx in advance

Thanks for the video man, I saw another person on KZbin use the filter spot to fill the transmission up with fluid. That a viable option?
@rippvids9739
@rippvids9739 5 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen videos where it was done that way. I chose not to try it for a couple of reasons. This method in the video is the official VW/Audi service method, but secondly because it works to give a more accurate level. The reason others advocate filling from the filter housing is because it is technically easier. It doesn’t require a fill tool or adapter, and makes less of a mess. That said you could fill from the top but filling 5 liters from the top would take a very long time! But if you took the time to do it and got the filter and battery back on and did the level check procedure then it could save you the $50-80 on a pump, or the other alternatives out there. However all of the videos I saw of people doing it that way did not check the level by running the car through the gears and allowing excess fluid to drain out. The idea is that you can know the correct fluid amount by measuring what’s collected from the drain process. But I would not trust simply measuring what comes out and assuming that’s a correct amount. Hope that helps
@biz4twobiz463
@biz4twobiz463 3 жыл бұрын
joszer ... YES, it is a perfectly viable option...when filling 5 liters. Of course...as long as you follow the procedure to allow the excess fluid to drain out at the 35 C to 45 C temps.

@@biz4twobiz463 I also think a quality hand held temperature measuring device could be used (pointed at the transmission oil case) instead of the fancy, more expensive OBDII scanner demonstrated in this video.

You could, I've personally not done it that way, but there are videos of people doing it. I think DAP has a somewhat recent video where they did this. I think the only drawback is the time it takes.

I have a dought regarding this... why filling extra oil on the gearbox? many video comments say the gearbox will need only 4.5 lit of oil. then just fill the oil and close it... why checking the temperature and wasting the oil?
@rippvids9739
@rippvids9739 2 жыл бұрын
It's the way the transmission was designed to be serviced. You can do it the other methods and it'll be fine. But this method is optimal for having the exact amount of oil required. Nothing more nothing less.

Hello Rippvids, How did you determine that your dsg i level. Since you are rising the car in the front only it should be unlevel? Right!
@rippvids9739
@rippvids9739 3 жыл бұрын
A very good insight! Yes in fact you ideally would want to jack up all the rear as well to simulate a lift. The parking spot I was in had a reasonable grade but looking back it was probably not an accurate level. Good catch! 👍

The site I linked in the description used to sell the liquimoly brand oil, but for some reason they switched to a brand called Rowe that I haven't tried yet. If you're not optimistic about it they do have the OEM oil for +$42. Still cheaper than a lot of sites if you priced out the filter, washer, and oil.

@rippvids9739
@rippvids9739 6 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of it. I would look for people who have used it on forums or call up the website that sells it. OEM/Pentosin fluid is expensive, that's why I use Liquimoly. You can get it from the link I put in the description for $80 filter/washer included. If the Kerax fluid is "approved" by VW/Audi then in theory it should be ok to use.

Excellent video man. Not like those stupid vids that some other people have posted on youtube misleading other people. Two things I have learned from you here are the temperature requirement to set the level and also it has to be done with the engine running and shifting gears as well. I did not figure out why you had to use that VAGCOM meter though. Can you explain what you were doing.

@@rippvids9739 I'm suspecting that Joe Lucky is thinking that the engine coolent temp reading shown on the inside of car consol is the dsg trans coolent temp. I dont have a vagcom but thinking of taking the dsg oil temp reading with a thermometer by run the engine then shut off and remove the filter housing dip it in the pool of oil right there. OR just wait for a really hot summer day above 90F outside and just measure the exact amount of oil removed and replace it same. I would appreciate any feedback your opinion if that sounds like a good/bad idea ?
@rippvids9739
@rippvids9739 4 жыл бұрын
@@worldtraveler4584 I don't advocate for the replacement method just because of all the variables of how much fluid could be still in the gearbox and how much was burned off or the temperature of the fluid giving it a different thickness. Regardless of which one you try, it's not an exact science and VW really made exact measurements an impossible thing to know by not having some kind of dipstick. But I would advocate for the method in the video because it's the method you would pay bookoo dollars for at the dealership, and because it addresses some of those variables. I'm sure it works fine though. But I would recommend getting OBD11 pro for like $80, it will allow you to check the temps very easily. Happy wrenching dude
