►Performing an Audi & VW DSG service doesn't need to be a complicated task; instead, it's one you can do at home in your garage.
Last week, BMW Catalog Manager, Gareth Foley reviewed four tools that will save you time and frustration the next time you want to go change your oil on a DSG transmission. This week, Gareth also reviewed a DSG Service Kit that we put together for your DSG 02E transmission. Today, he combines the two together.
In this week's DIY, Gareth shows you how to use those DSG service tools to install the DSG oil filter service kit for a quick, clean, and easy installation!
DISCLAIMER: @20:37 - Gareth mentions turning the car OFF, the final level should normally be set with the car ON and running.

Everything I’ve heard in the past is that the vehicle must be running while doing the final drain with the level tube. ????? Thoughts? Any certified VW mechanics here?

Supposed to keep the engine running when you drain the excess fluid... Since you shut the engine off, the DSG pump stopped circulating oil. You let more fluid out than you are supposed to.

it's insane how bad these "how to" videos are....and alot of people trust that it's correct. =/ (The quality of the video is good, but the info wrong) I find it funny there are no good info from VW how to service their cars, without paying for their own program that costs a small fortune for a private person, but i guess they love all the bad info going out to people, making em buy a new transmission and engines when they do the service wrong xD it's sad really...

@mkefayati473
@mkefayati473 4 жыл бұрын
@@123cuizine The engine doesnt have to be running. The reason why the engine runs is to bring up the transmission fluid temp. to 35-40c, this is when the fluid will expand and the excess will drain onto the the pan from the snorkel. The whole idea of the engine running is to bring the fluid to the mentioned temp. However I could be wrong.

@@123cuizine Service manuals often say to do shit that makes little sense, no one does this. It's bad enough you have to disassembly so much shit in the engine bay to get to the filter and that the filling method is awkward and jankey, but fucking around with heating the oil to some stupid magical temperature for no discernible reason just adds even more delay. The practice of entirely ignoring this is based on essentially ever example I've seen is completely ubiquitous and is not causing any discernible issues.
@CrazyCracker702
@CrazyCracker702 3 жыл бұрын
@@mkefayati473 Engine needs to be running to continuously pump fluid through trans while draining excess. If you shut the car off, all the fluid that is in the filter, pump, mechatronics unit, and all passage ways drains back into the bottom of the trans and will drain out. Fluid level in DSG must be checked while engine is running, that is per VW Factory Service Manual. FCP Euro also corrected there mistake and listed it in the Description. If you shut the car off and drain excess, there will be around 4.2 liters of total fluid in trans, the 02E DSG requires around 5 Liters. The DSG Filter housing alone holds 1/4 of a Liter alone.

Video is great, but part where he sets oil level is wrong. Read the manual for chaning oil, but out of curiosuly watched video too and somehow picked up that he set the level while engine was off. After good week gearbox started to whine a little bit more then usual. 3rd gear was really really notable. Somehow remembered that oil that came out of gearbox when I was setting level was suspiciously a lot. Didn’t drive car much more, put 1l more of oil, set up level as it should be done. Car took around 900ml!!! Whine basically went away, it’s only notable on lower gears when decelerating. Hope I didn’t do any damage to my gearbox or haven’t hurt it’s longevity. I shouldn’t, but paranoid in myself still reminds me this. I would suggest taking video out of youtube, or putting some notices on title of the video. Watched this video on TV do didn’t seen comment section. Even sadder that FCP still kept this video intact, even some people have reported and they actually pinned comment pointing it out.

@fcpeuro
@fcpeuro 3 жыл бұрын
What exactly do you mean Paul? When you initially remove the drain plug there will be quite a lot of fluid that comes out. After you refill the transmission and get the fluid to temp, you'll have to check the level once again afterwards and some fluid may come out again then.

@sn8277
@sn8277 3 жыл бұрын
@@Matttski Perhaps this the difference between draining the new fluid level WITH the engine running versus the engine off. With engine off the oil in the filter and other areas of the transmission will seek the pan or lower part of the transmission. Likely higher than the fill insert. That oil will drain when pulling just the drain plug. I would guess if you pulled the drain plug with the engine running, none or very little will come out. Make sense?

After you fill the new oil you have to over fill it, warm it up (to expand the oil) and drain the excess How the hell is there an excess of oil in the first place. It cannot magically increase in volume
