I know this is an old comment but same! When I first started getting more into interior design & the different styles, I mistakenly thought mid century modern was only all about bright, jewel tones and I just didn’t like it. Afterwards I saw it in neutrals and fell in love. Now I know my style is a mix of mcm with Scandi.

I used to be obsessed by Art Deco and have it as the primary theme of the master bedroom. Over time I have gradually seen the connection between Deco, Bauhaus, Wiener Werkstätte and Mid Century. I love the fact that all of these movements or styles have creativity and art as their primary influence along with functionality. I now have moved primarily towards Mid Century and it is one of the most exciting journeys. The iconic beautiful pieces such as the Corona Chairs from Poul M. Volther. These were influenced by the spectacle of an eclipse of the sun which to me is just so wonderful! This video is very well timed and has helped me further clarify the direction I am going and guided me well with how I need to keep progressing, thank you!

I lived during the mid-century and I thought mid-century furniture was ugly...back then. However, my dad loved Danish modern (which is very mid-century) and I kind of got used to it. Now that I'm old (LOL), I've really come to appreciate mid-century to the point where I could live in a mid-century house and love it!

hahaha, I can understand, maybe it was too "futuristic" at the time. Obviously, the Mid-Century modern that we see nowadays has a slightly different language than the original (Mad men tv Show Style). I have some pieces inherited from my grandfather, who was very passionate following the trends of the moment. Saw a house for sale online last year. A kind of contemporary version of a brick colonial with a portico in front, built in 1959. The best thing? The wrought iron stair railing in a “G-cleff” motif. Coolest railing I ever saw. And other features from that era I love: slate floored foyer, louvered interior doors, fireplace with a couple of bookshelves just on one side. That era was fantastic in modern design, even when it had a traditional aspect to it.

Love the lamp at 6:37 - I think that is late 60s/early 70s? Actually having grown up at that time I really like late mid century. And for people that say the 70s was tacky - yes a lot was. But look further for the good stuff. A 1972 Pierre Cardin magazine rack in brass and white lacquer. Made my mom buy it for $29 at Lord & Taylor ( they had a furniture department then). Got tossed years ago - unfortunately.

Great video! I love mid-century, but I also love industrial. My house is more traditional therefore I painted the exterior with S-W Cyberspace including gutters, downspouts, trim and garage door. My neighbors thought I was a bit crazy but I love the look. My challenge right now is the stairwell. I’d like to see a video of ideas of decorating the stairwell. Thank you!!
