Every kid wanted to be Kowalski. Then the original Gone in 60 Seconds came out. Why a contract wasn't put out on the lame asses who totally ruined that movie in the fucking 90s is a mystery to me. Even though it was released in 1971. 'Vanishing Point', in addition to being a flat out awesome car movie, was also a microcosm of the social issues and problems of the 60s in America. Civil rights, racial equality, the Vietnam war, a general distrust of the government and anyone who worked for "the man". Seeing this is also going back and revisiting a unique time in Americas history.

@@z512345 ... Bullitt is iconic because of the star of the movie, Mr. Cool. Vanishing Point is iconic because of the story. Kowalski was anonymous at the outset and the drive carried his story to the audience, letting us learn the singular incidents that finally added up to a very tired man releasing his grip on futility. I'd speculate that many of us would wish to be able to choose the time and method of our exit. Kowalski's was spectacular and depressing in its finality. We had already seen him escape the bulldozers. I expected him to make the same escape toward the end. It brought me to tears then. It's the same now.

There's a portrayal of freedom and abandonment and to separate from everything in life to simply ride it till the wheels fall off. Kind of American heartbreak, loss, loneliness. In the end. It's all a waste. Pathetic and beautiful.

Un fantastico film! Ancora oggi molto attuale, chi non vorrebbe fuggire da tutto ogni tanto... E soprattutto con un'auto veloce!

Glad it was actually a 67 camaro that crashed into the dozers in the end. Pause it where the guy is spraying it down with his taped up garden hose.

The guy with the water hose was Richard Sarafian, the guy who made the movie. They did use '67 Camaro. I like Camaros as well as Challengers. Also, the car got stuck between the bulldozers, but it was suppose to have crashed and continued flipping over. Perhaps that would explain why there are two explosions; the first one was planned and the second one was the fuel tank exploding.

First clue was the hood. It was flat, not the scooped Mopar hood.Unfortunately the remake with Vigo Mortensen, they did use a real Challenger : /

@circlek I think any one who has watched this movie more than once is a fan. : )

@@oneobserver2260 Most cars they crash in Hollywood have their fuel tanks removed. If you think you see the gas tank, it is usually the bottom of the Trunk that is seen. If they are actually driving the car, the fuel cell is a small container containing less then a quarter gallon, just enough to drive the car to it's demise. The camaro in the film was had no engine and was pulled by one of the film's Challengers on a steel cable.

It was realy Chevrolet CAMARO which hit the bulldozers !!!!
