Thanks heaps ........ Mine had never been serviced 10-15 years 240s MTB ...... Good trick guys to get frozen apart ..... get two multigrip wrenches and grip both sides axil and twist to free up........ Then a large "Allen Key" through the axil and hit the other side off .... I just did it with my palm. I'm motorcycle mechanic and everything was fine. no damage despite dryness inside. Doesn't get a lot of use but river crossings yes. Well made, good quality materials. It will get good service now as I'm retired

Yet again you saved me. For the second time in just a couple of weeks I've had a specific problem to which I did not have an answer, and again I found the answer here. This time I couldn't understand why the freehub was coming loose on my newly assembled wheels, and yet again you had an answer: I just had to push the end cap on. Thank you!

Another great video from you! I really love it and you helped me a lot for upgrading my bikes. I have one question: I have a DT Swiss 240 rear hub with center lock and TA. When I install the wheel on my bike and I keep the TA bolt not tight, everything works fine, the freehub works. If I tighten the bolt to 12 to 15 Nm, the rear hub binds, I cannot even move the pedals backwards with the entire wheel turning and the freehub becomes extremely (unhealthy) loud. Any ideas what it could be and how to solve? Thanks
@FreeToCycle4 жыл бұрын
What happens is the spacers that is on the axle wears overtime causing the freehub to bind up, can happen when you freewheel then suddenly the chain starts smashing into the chain stay!! You can purchase the spacer separately.

Never owned a ratchet hub I've seen them used in mtb i guess the engagement is fast and more reliable.
@KennyMinigun5 жыл бұрын
The mechanism itself is simpler as well. I.e. it is more reliable from durability point of view

I just upgraded the ratchet in my dt240 hubs from the standard to the 54t. it engages much better BUT theres a lot of extra forward drag, ie when spinning wheel on stand fast it pushes the cranks around forward normally a bit. its greased very lightly nothings wrong, perhaps the springs that came with kit are two strong and are forcing the test together too firmly causing the drag?

Is it worth popping the seals and adding more grease to the free hub bearings?

What degreaser is safe on the ratchet's? DT recommend Motorex but I don't think that's really available in Australia to consumers

Great video! I'm curious if you have any thoughts on why/how the small cogs would end up shaving the top splines of the hub? My local BS installed the DT Swiss Micro Spline Ratchet version with my new XT 8100 Cassette about a year ago and just recently the two smallest cogs became lose on the cassette. I took it apart and realized that the second to last cog could no longer "attach" to the splines on the Hub b/c they had been completely shaven off. Surprised after only one year of use with light riding/easy trails.
@FreeToCycle3 жыл бұрын
The freehub bodies are usually aluminium and the cassette is steel, the aluminium wears faster than the steel! The last two sprockets on the 12 speed cassette are literally just sat on the very end of the freehub body!
@alexunlv3 жыл бұрын
@@FreeToCycle So the last two sprockets, specifically the second to last (smallest is attached to the second to last), should not grasp the freehub body at all? I've seen some other videos and it seems the second to last sprocket still grasps, slightly, the freehub spline.
@FreeToCycle3 жыл бұрын
The second one makes contact with the end of the freehub body and locks onto the splines then the last sprocket locates into the second one!!
