Here is my conversion video on switching my DT Swiss E1900 wheel set to a ratchet from a 3 pawl set up. Absolutely nothing wrong with a 3 pawl but I wanted more engagement!

You have to use the correct bushing / spacer for the ratchet system.. the ratchet style bushing is longer and thicker compared to the 3 pawl.

@@chickensendies yes it does. its purpose is to properly align the freehub body from going inside the hub.. Try pushing the cassette inwards.. there will be a play if the wrong spacer is used, it will make a louder ratchet sound..

I have a 2019 Canyon Strive. It came with DT Swiss 1900 wheels. I was told that the kit wouldn't work with the 1900 but see you proof otherwise.

I actually got these wheels from the canyon strive I used to have! Terrific bike! Just a heads up though if you do this be sure to get the appropriate aluminum bushing! I was mistaken in the video and you do need to get the correct one and can not use the one from the 3 pawl!

I was able to use the old onee since I used the same driver. If you switch driver types (xd to shimano or vice versa) you may have to get new endcaps but I am not 100% sure since I kept the same the driver style. Hope that helps and thank you! Very glad you found it informative!

I did this but found that the seal did not fit the new XD driver. I ordered the seal that is supposed to be used on the driver but the bore on the 1900 hubs are wider so the seal doesn’t fit in snuggly like it’s supposed to. Any recommendations for this? Otherwise it’s working great. Thanks!

It is not! I updated the description with this info as well. If you are switching from a 3 pawl to a ratchet style hub as in this video you will need to buy a 240 DT Swiss bushing.

I do not see why not! I am not 100% sure what the microspline comes with though a 3 pawl or already a star ratchet. If it is already a star it will be SUPER easy to upgrade it for better engagement!

Update. Microspline freehub body doesn’t fit properly on the 370 straight pull hubs. I’m going to wait for the official DT SWISS Ratchet LN conversion kit to get this done. XD and HG bodies should have no issues

Hi Chicken, just recently upgraded my E1900 3 pals system to DT swiss star 54t ratchet. I followed your instructions video and was able to assembled properly but when I installed it back into my bike after recommended torque, it would not free wheel. any idea what went wrong?

@@sikad87 Yep, youll need to change it to a 240 bushing. The bushings are actually different and make a difference. I was having the same issue you are and found out you do have to change the bushing if you are changing from a 3 pawl to the star ratchet. In this video description i added that and also added a Ebay link to one but of course that is easy to miss if you are not looking.

For those who had their cassette became fixed after installation to the bike, do check the springs that comes with the ratchet. Do not tamper the springs or it will become unpropotionate and it will cause much problems. Cheers.!

If you have a gx casette you will need a XD hub body not a shimano one. That one in the link will not work with your GX casette since it is shimano. Hope that helps!

Mine had this issue at first as well. I had to change the bushing to the ratchet sized one. If you have already done that then sadly I am not sure. Now, if you used the same bushing look in the description of this video and there is a link to the correct bushing!

How did u remove the old pawl system ring nut? 2 of is actually trying to remove it using the proper tools. OMG, have tried to attempts to remove it 3 dats ago using adjustable wrench and no luck. Today we used the exact fit open wrench to hold the tool and turn the pawl ring nut leftu loosy. Still no success, I was holding the wheel while me son turns the tool and no success. I even tries to hammer the open wrench as it was heavy duty anyways. Still no luck. Pls give me a tip on how to remove the old pawl ring nut.

I ended up having to use a extension on the adjustable wrench for more leverage (3" pipe I put on the end of it).... Sadly that is probably the hardest part of this entire switch.... It is very hard to get that old star nut out.

I ended up using a metal pipe slid over my ratchet to basically extend the length..... Not the best way to do it but it did work!

It looks like that has the 3 pawl system as well so the switch should be nearly identical to this. The main difference is you will need to buy a microspline star ratchet driver and not the XD as in this video. Hope that helps!

HG1800 it doesnt work! The 240 ring nut is 0.5 mm smaller than needed and doesnt lock in place.

Can you confirm what hub your HG1800 has? I believe it should be a 370 hub.

@@chickensendies I tried HXDXXX00N1131S and HCDXXX00S1110S: same result. If i put them side-by-side with an original 3pawn nut, it is clear the later one is 0.5-1mm bigger in diameter. Maybe dt swiss started to produce new 370 hubs? Wheels are few months old.

Please, be aware that DT advises against such a conversion. I spoke to my local DT distributor. I trust the guy, he did not say what he did to further DT's interest. He said that, yes it is possible to convert 370 to ratchet system, but you will not be able to ensure the same level of sealing as on a 240, 350, etc hub, as the design is different. The upgraded ratchet will work, but dirt will find its way into the hub, causing damage and jam. I also wanted to convert a 370 hub, but after this advice I decided against it.

I think thats just a blanket statement from DT Swiss. They have released a similar "official" conversion kit for the 370 hubs called DT Swiss Ratchet LN. Look it up on their site. It's basically all these parts that CHicken Sendies listed here (1. freehub ratchet body 2. ringnut ratchet driver 3. shim ring 4. aluminum 240 bushing) PLUS a useless 18t ratchet kit, packaged in a kit, all for the cost of $110+. On top of that, because it comes with the 18t star ratchets which you dont want, you still need to buy the 54t kit, which is another $100+. So DT Swiss is just trying to make a quick buck from us. I say follow this DIY conversion and source the DT Swiss parts yourself. It's the same exact thing, except you save $100.

I have the m1900 and doing this upgrade now and so far so good. But getting that 3 pawl nut off was a pita. I took off brake rotor and sprayed a little penetrating oil and nut came right off. Oh thanks for that bushing info , just ordered one off eBay for 8 bux.now I have to wait at Least a week to ride. I’d rather have it done right.

If you use an adjustable wrench and a 30” cheater pipe on the wrench it breaks free pretty easily. Just put the shell tire on the ground for grip and position chest on top and use the leverage from the pipe and voila. It breaks free

I could not get this to work for my M1900 hub. The cassette would rotate freely off the bike but once installed, my bike became a fixed gear bike. Oh well. Lessons learned.
