(DU) If you break up with Astarion right before the epilogue party of Withers

Lol even Karlach and Gale, who would give “disapproves” if you killed people without provocation, would say nothing when you just walked up and started killing everyone in the goblin camp or in the Zhentarim hideout 🤷‍♀️ There seems to be plenty of bad guys to eat their fill of, so I’m sure the 7000 are mostly going to behave, and for those that don’t the Gur or Harpers will take care of them.

It's more like, Astarion was afraid the Dark Urge might have had a little... "relapse" during those six months. Hence why he carefully asks that question and is tense at first, the way he keeps repeating "we are all _well",_ hiding it behind smiles. He is afraid the Durge might have a fit in the middle of the conversation and start to murder him. Also, Withers put Blade Ward on everyone, so it's not like his dagger could do much, but it makes him feel safe. It's a rogue's version of a teddybear or security blanket for a child... the security dagger.

Yes, right! It's very good. I think this is the ending if you just end up friends but with a high approval. I am yet to see what happens if we have never romanced him... but I don't have such save yet. All my saves are with him romanced 🙉

I am somehow beyond relieved, that the description of the life he now enjoys autonomously seems to be pretty much the one he has in my game too. I selected the "finding a way for him to walk in the sun" again option (as it seemed something he might like) and from what I have gathered in the conversations, they have been adventuring around, fought dark mages, stole books and generally enjoyed themselves without making any real progress in their intended quest.

@@anska7475 I’m pretty sure there’s something like “Cloak of Shade” or similar that allows for vampires to go in the sun without burning? 🤔 I heard there is another much stronger one but it nerfs the wearers stats (ie makes them weak but sun proof). But also it’s good then that he has kept the potentially murderous horde from killing innocents and just been eating the bad guys. Plus I’m pretty sure there are others with fetish for being bitten like that Araj Oblora (or whatever her name was) at Moonrise, so they just need to find them and then they have unlimited free meals haha.

It's strange because from my (our) perspective, you get the last scene with him after we save the city. He asks you, do you still want to be with him because he loves you. There I said, No , I will go on my own, he was super hurt and disappointed... and I didn't realise that whole 6 months has passed until the party. 🤪 (cuz the patch had just released and I don't read😅) So in my head I break up with him and immediately there's the party... I expected different result, but seing him happy and taking his life in his own hands is better

In this scenario, knowing he wouldn't stop living his life, and would continue to grow and be happy is a better "ending" than just ending it at the break up. This and a few other things solidify my thoughts that imo if Tav died of old age he wouldn't just burn in the sun. (I have nothing wrong with this HC. I get the appeal and angst of it.) It's good to know that he would continue to make healthy decisions and live his life. 🥰❣️

I think he trusts us most if MC stays together as a partner with him... in that case, they were partners and broke up 6 months ago... so I see why he might not trust Tav... it's like Tav betrayed him literally in the last scene at the last moment... It's only natural... especially for him to have the dagger "just in case" 🗡

Yes, but that is not true... because there is a scene at the end of everything where he asks you if you still wanna be with him, after the dock, after the city is safe... so there I broke up with him to see if it will reflect that action, but I think the only reflection is that he stays as a friend with 100 approval and maybe he reacts to us have been together "in the past" but not the way I imagined it...

I have no way of knowing that, because my 3 saves that I have , are only with him as Romanced, BUT It's strange because from MY (our) perspective, you get the last scene with him after we save the city. (Also it's DUrge specific, so maybe spoilers, if you didn't know there is a last scene)... He asks you, "Do you still want to be with him because he loves you". @@resonatinglo I think there are still parts of the epilogue that aren't fully customized for specific scenarios, so different choice branches trigger the same cutscenes which can be confusing depending on your relationship with different companions. They've done a lot of course - which is amazing, but it does break immersion at times. I don't expect them to account for everything, but I do hope they add more contextual variety in future patches. We both received the high approval platonic status Astarion cutscene from two very different paths (murder inclined former romantic partner and extremely platonic best friend who didn't even get a final conversation with him before he dashed away in a trail of smoke).

Not really. People seem to miss that just because we make a choice in life and are happy, that doesn't mean we couldn't have made a different choice and also found happiness. To be frank, what you are suggesting would be like, if someone in a wheelchair was like 'I've come to accept who I am and am happy, this is all just a part of what made me me', and you'd be like, see it's a great thing they ended up paralyzed. If they could still walk they wouldn't be who they really are 8D Astarion learned he could still be him without the power, that he was enough. He could have just as easily gotten the power, and once he became comfortable with it, calmed down and realized that part of reaching that point is being allowed to be who he wants to be, and not try to be what he thinks someone in power has to be. Same growth, same self realization, different situation, because again, the results of one choice do not prove or disprove what the results of a different choice would have been.

This is exactly the scenarion. Tav durge romancing Astarion up the the last scene in the High halls room where he asks us if we still want to be together now that we have saved BG city... And I told him that I wanna be alone... and this is the scene after.

My guess is his life is the same depending on what you choose. I chose to go to underdark and lead the 7000 spawns with him and the narrator do give a bit of context, but there’s an option that says “let’s be heroes together” which I am assuming it is the same route as this one but along Tav/Durge. I’ll try that option in my new run by killing the spawns to see what happens but I’m pretty sure it is the same! Hopefully Larian chooses this as his canon ending because that’s actually a great ending to his story, even the Gur sends him a letter saying they are taking care of their spawn children and that they admire Astarion

I had no option to have an Ascended romanced party, because he speaks with you , you are his consort and asks you what you want to do and you don;t have the option for a party, so I always choose "I want to see the world" and he says - ok lets travel Ferun ... and I got the Credits and Withers and that's it... SO it makes sense to have no party there, but also, maybe I did something wrong and can still trigger it... no idea... but it looks like you can not be Ascended, romanced and have a party. I will try what you are saying to break up with him and see if there's a party. Thanks!

[SPOILERS] . . . If you go to Avernus with Karlach, Withers open a portal that brings all characters who went to Avernus to the party. If you went the evil route and dominated the Netherbrain and everyone, no, there is no party epilogue at all AFAIK. The game ends with _"In my name."_ The party epilogue is for when you got the Heroes of Baldur's Gate ending. If the Dark Urge lost against Orin but didn't reject Bhaal but got rejected by Bhaal, then killed themselves on the docks after the Netherbrain is defeated when Durge felt the madness closing in, the epilogue instead is about Durge's soul being visited by Withers in Limbo, Withers saying you died a hero to save the others and hints one day you might perhaps return to the living. If Dark Urge went insane but _didn't_ kill themselves after Endbattle but decided to seal themselves away in a prison instead, the epilogue starts with Withers visiting the feral chained-up Durge in prison, where the player can once again get an option to ask Withers to kill you. Or just growl. Then it switches to the party scene with all companions minus the Durge. While Withers welcomes them, the camera pans back and switches to the POV of the crazed feral blood-stained Durge hiding in the little ruin beyond the circle of firelight, dagger in hand, staring at them. The Narrator tells you how you broke out of the prison and how something drew you here, to this camp place where everything began. You get a few choices, mostly to growl, sadly none to yell out to warn your former companions. Then the Durge waits for the party to end and everyone go to sleep so Durge can murder them... it ends with Durge stalking towards the camp, then cuts to black, leaving it open if Durge murders them all, or if they kill Durge. I mean, Withers/Jergal is there, people have spells like Bless and Blade Ward on them, and Jergal can resurrect anyone killed. So chances are they'll survive. But still, pretty dark ending. Ironically, if the player character as sane Dark Urge or as a Mindflayer Tav randomly decides to start killing off everyone else at the epilogue party, the game lets you do that and so does Jergal... but once everyoen else is dead, Jergal gets really angry that you "ruined his party" and banishes the homicidal player character through a portal to.... whereever, probably not a good place. The End. (Again, hopefully Jergal will resurrect the others offscreen, but it's telling Jergal doesn't help them in the fight. He probably wanted their souls in his care if he hadn't had them before. He's collecting adventurers, after all.)

Jesus Christ, I don't like complaining in comments, especially about videos themselves, but why do y'all people uploading these random BG3 videos INSIST on putting Durge spoilers in videos that have nothing to do with Durge without idk putting a spoiler tag in the title or at the beginning of the video 😭 I'm still in my first playthrough as Durge, in act 2, and I already know why they get the urge and how they're related to a big plot and now this opening narrator line here and I looked up none of these specifically 😭

Thank you for the comment, and you are right, I probably should put durge tags. I play only durge and i didnt realise that of course it will be different than a normal Tav. My only defence would be that its been so long since the gane come out and if you are clicking on a video that says "this is the epilogue" you probably expect spoilers 🫣😅

@@resonatinglo Thanks for understanding and while yeah, I expect spoilers in a video like this and I'm usually fine with them because I'll never see all outcomes anyway, I'd say unless durge is specified, I expect Tav to be in the video 😅. I did see some videos from the epilogue, too, like one with ascended Astarion and Tav mindflayer (I got neither of these myself), and I did finish the game and see the full epilogue myself. But with durge, the amnesia and the reason for their urge is a big part of their story, so yeah, learning that Tav can become a mindflayer is, in my mind, less spoiler-y than "here's a piece of durge's background story we (probably) only learn in act 3" 😅. May I ask why you never play as Tav, possibly spoiler free (at least spoiler free past early act 2)? One reason I can see for myself is extra dialogue you get with companions. I'm specifically thinking about when in act 2, you resist killing in Last Light Inn and during long rest, it turns out you'll kill the companion you're closest with. I romance Astarion so it was him, obviously, he helped me through the night, and I loved how it filled in a rather long gap between the tiefling party and the talk after dealing with the orthon/Araj. We learn that "he's so afraid, so so afraid, of everything, except you (durge)" and as he puts it himself, "I'm also worried about me! But I somehow seem to be more worried about... you". I think it really helps "sell" him falling for PC, and showing us that they do something more than adventuring and an occasional "hello, beautiful". I also like how comfy the scene is, despite what went down, when you're just sitting on the ground and chat, instead of the usual awkward standing in front of a tent 😁. I think the game needs overall more options for dialogue and cutscenes with companions, as amazing as it already is.

@@Kasiarzynka I will change the titles of the durges when i get back home. As for why I dont play Tav's. I play them, because this is not my job and I want to have all sort of videos and dialogs and the difference between them in the different situations. BUT when I played for myself I always play as Durge, because Durge has more story than Tav obviously and because I live their romance with Astarion. Without spoilers, my fav scene is the night after last light inn where Astarion stays with you and says "I've got you! And You've got this!" ... oh my stomach turns just when I think about that scene... I just love durges scenes and interactions more. Durge has something to fight for and something to lose... where Tav... is just like an ordinary game, where Durge is exciting. It probably doesn't make much sense... I just always romance Astarion when I am not going for a specific video of course and so I prefer durge now. But in the beginning when besides my multiplayers where i played a Tav once, I have 4 durges as my first single campaigns, so I am very used to them and didn't think when I titled this video. My apologies ! I shall fix all of them and put a little (DU) in the titles of the durge vids. Thank you for pointing it out for me and understanding my point as well!
