Looks great. Thanks for sharing the details of the technique. Reminds me of Harvey Fein's work. He had a lot of custom 3-d surfacing methods.

Steve -- Thank you for sharing your knowledge. The bowl is spectacular. The bowl would have been beautiful without the embellishment. Often, embellishments detract. In this case, you took the project to another level.

Thank you for your comment David. You are correct about choosing the right piece to add embellishment to. This was a rather plain piece starting out so I thought it was a good candidate.

Looks like you were cutting above center while cutting the grooves? You drew a center line to match the center of the lathe and then move over 1” on both sides of center to cut both grooves? Is this correct? A beautiful bowl and excellent video. Thanks

Can’t find contact info to purchase the Dual Axis Router Jig. Can someone help me out? It looks like an awesome addition to my options.

What is the pressure amount used and also, could you use a vacuum to draw the bubbles out

Thanks Steve for a very nice informative video. Trying to watch as much as I can on the Paul Howard fluting jig and have contacted Paul in the UK about a purchase. Did yours arrive in good condition in a reasonable time period? Looking at Pauls Web site, you mentioned ideas for future video's. If your set up for this, I see Paul has plans for a rotary table for the jig and he has some really nice fluted pieces. Would love to see a demo on this if at all possible. Paul's jig seems very robust and seems to give on a lot of leeway in it's use.

Thank you for the video. Why did you raise the whole router assembly instead of just the router? And how did you run across this Paul Howard Router Jig?
@stevecriscenzowoodturning98284 жыл бұрын
Raising the whole jig on blocks allows for a tighter radius on the grove (as opposed to just extending the router up on the jig). Took me a while to get my head around the concept but it works. I had made several jigs to accomplish similar effects with limited success. I saw the Paul Howard jig in an ad and liked the concept and versatility. Paul is in the UK but the unit can be shipped to the US very easily.

@@stevecriscenzowoodturning9828 I have one of the Howard Jigs. However, when I talked with Paul I was sworn to silence because he was warned, from a representative of a similarly conceptualized product here in the U.S. that there would be legal action taken against him if he were to distribute his product in the U.S. It sounds like he's rectified that matter if you were able to get one. I don't doubt what you're saying about raising the height of the platform, but as you said I'm still trying to understand how that would tighten the radius of the cut.
@stevecriscenzowoodturning98284 жыл бұрын
@ The radius of the cut is a function of the distance from the pivot point to the bit. The shorter the distance the tighter the radius. Using blocks to raise the base, in turn raises the pivot point and thus gives a tighter radius. Just raising the router gives a very flat curve and a large rim.

@@stevecriscenzowoodturning9828 Okay, I got it. Thanks for explaining. I feel pretty stupid. I don't know why I couldn't figure that out.

@ No worries. I had to draw it on paper to figure it out.

Wow, love this! Thanks for making these videos...I really wanted to learn how to do this! What kind of helmet are you wearing?
@stevecriscenzowoodturning98284 жыл бұрын
Carol, thanks for your comments. I am using an Airstream AS400 helmet. It is a powered respirator with a HEPA filter. Crazy expensive but worth it, I believe. I will be doing a safety video in a couple of weeks and will talk more about it.
