Dual battery Install on a 2014 GMC Sierra.

I Install a second battery in the truck with a battery isolator. The parts I used are linked below.

You should’ve run the negative through the Alternator voltage sensor that’s on the main battery neg cable . Good build !

So, if your main battery dies how do you start the engine? If the system allows power back through the isolator automatically, how would you know when the main battery is dead or low?

The isolator couples the battery when it sees 12.7V which usually happens with the car running and the alternator charging the system. With the main battery dead it wont have enough power to have the too batteries coupled together and the car wont start. You can then press the button on the isolator which will force the couple the batteries together and then start the car with the power from second battery.

do you know if an isolator drain primary battery when vehicle isn't running and not using the 2nd? i have a small drain that drains my main and can't find it. the 2nd battery is used to operate my wheelchair van ramp and power controls. it's also used to jump my van if main battery is low.

The Battery Doctor isolator isolates the second battery from the main battery if the voltage on the main battery drops below 12.7 volts. So when the vehicle is running and alternator is charging the main battery( the alternator should be suppling more than 12.7v if it is working correct) the Battery doctor isolator will see more than 12.7v and couple the too batteries so they charge together. The Isolator should not have a power draw on either battery. Hope this helps!

What is purpose of 2nd battery

It allows you to run accessories with out draining the main battery. I have my light bars and sound system amp hooked up to my second battery and plan on adding my winch to it. I could run these accessories with the truck turned off and drain the 2nd battery if i wanted and the truck would still start up off the main battery. Also if my main battery dies I can use the second battery to start the truck by hitting a button on the battery isolator to provide power to the main one.

What gauge wire is the wire from battery to battery?

ISO some help with selecting the second battery. Internet has advised me to keep both batteries identical, problem is that my main battery is a 94R(H7) and the second tray will not compensate that size battery. Any work arounds from buying two smaller batteries that match (48 group)
