I use the same dual focus, but now I keep the shutter button as af on instead of just metering. This allows me to track with spot box focus by half pressing. It doesnt seem to disturb the back focus 2 buttons. Very recently, i added the far right as af on with auto iso for crowd reaction shot when i dont use flash. I use it often on groomsmen or bridesmaids reaction shots away from the window light. It prevents underexposed photos, which gives me more usable photos. I also use auto iso button on my kid when i feel lazy to use full manual. Hahaha. Great video as always.

This is very intriguing. I've been shooting sports for a couple years now with a 1Dx and 1Dx-II, and just stepped up to the R3 last week, so I'm still getting used to and learning the person/eye tracking features. With football, the eye detection is hit/miss, but I think it'll be more appropriate for most other sports I shoot.

Great video! You can actually do this with one button. Have the shutter button set to meter and at start. Eye af will overwrite the shutter focus if held down.

Aweosme video thanks! I wana see what others are doing for switching to eye and single point shoot etc. Gonna give it a try.. Also, you can actually switch eyes on demand! little arrows will pop up next to the eye tracking square and you just move the joystick left or right to select which eye you want :)

Hey thanks for the comment. I know about the arrows but unfortunately that feature doesn't work in the setup I show you in this video because I'm not in true eye tracking mode. But maybe in a future firmware update that might be possible the arrows are pretty handy. Glad you enjoyed the video really appreciate the comment.

What about changing the shutter button from metering and AF start to just metering, since you have AF start on the back in two buttons?

6:26 Keep holding the AF rear button while re-composing, the focus point will stick to the focused object. You don't need "one shot AF" anymore seriously.

I am going from a T6 to a 7D mark ii and I have not received my 7D yet. On the T6, my BBAF is on the * button and the 7D mark ii has a dedicated AF button. Can I do that same dual BBAF with the 7D mark ii? I can't find an answer so I will probably have to wait until my 7D mark ii gets here...

Unfortunaly I don't have any experience with the 7D mkII. I've never used it so I can't give you an answer. I'd go find someone who's used the camera before and ask them. Or find a copy of the 7D mkII's instruction manual online and see what you can find in there.

A quick question. When you insert the microphone 3.5mm jack into the camera's port. Can you still able to rotate the flippy screen 360 degree?

Yes. I film a lot of KZbin content and have the screen flipped out to face me with the mic plugged into the 3.5mm jack.
