Personally, I ride with an Arai XD3 and love it. The Arai XD4 also the most expensive option on the table and might not be the best option for some folks. If Snell approval is important, stick with the XD4 or the Hornet. If you ride more highway / higher speeds, the Variant is a good option. ~Ali

I have currently have a Symax 3 modular helmet. I like it overall, and it fits my head, but my face takes up the whole shin bar/shield area. I need a helmet with more room in the face area for my mic and moving around comfortably. I'm thinking about going with a 3/4 helmet, but a buddy suggested a dual sport full face as well. Do these adventure style helmets offer more room in the face area? I have a Sena SMH10R comm system and don't want to be confined in my helmet. My Symax 3 is 2XL and my chin is maybe a 1/4 inch from the chin bar. Too cramped!

@RevZilla8 жыл бұрын
The most important notes are to consider your own head shape vs. the helmet's internal head shape (round oval, intermediate oval, long oval), whether you want to wear goggles with the helmet, and whether you want an internal sun visor, and whether you want the peak visor to be removable. -DrewZilla

How does the Speed & Strength ss2500 helmet compare to all of these in terms of fit, functionality, and cost? I'm torn between the Icon Variant and the ss2500. I understand the substantial price difference but curious on which each has to offer as far as "bang for your buck". Keep in mind I'm just after the styling as I only ride street so goggle fit for me isn't an issue.
@DMAN2289010 жыл бұрын
Also curious about aerodynamics. I notice the variant has a spoiler for wind buffeting and most others do not. Is that actually functional or is it just cosmetically appealing? Sorry for the many questions but I just want to make sure I'm happy with my purchase.

Dual sport helmets are a compromise between a street helmet and an off-road helmet. Therefore, they aren't as good as a regular touring helmet for street use, and they aren't as good as a true dirt helmet for off-road riding. The Icon Variant in this video doesn't really accommodate goggles, so it's really a street helmet that's slightly less aerodynamic than a regular street helmet. Since this video was released in 2012, there are a few new dual sport helmets that are more aerodynamic and are quieter at speeds. They are the Shoei Hornet X2, Schuberth E1, and the Scorpion EXO-AT950. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/shoei-hornet-x2-helmets *www.revzilla.com/schuberth-e1-helmets *www.revzilla.com/scorpion-exo-at950-helmets

do you recommend a dualsport for a rider with asthma(i ride a vulcan)?
@RevZilla10 жыл бұрын
swarm87 If you need to be able to use an inhaler at a moment's notice, you may want to choose an open-face or modular helmet. If you're at lower risk for an asthma attack, you may be fine with a dual sport helmet. However, unless you're intentionally taking your Vulcan off-road, a dual sport helmet is likely too much of a compromise for pure on-road riding. You'd likely be better off with a more aerodynamic option, like a full-face, open-face, or modular helmet. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/open-face-helmets *www.revzilla.com/modular-motorcycle-helmets

I live in Sweden, low sun in the morning, never really gets that high. I'm wondering which of these helmet peaks actually work as a sun shield at highway speeds 60 - 70 mph. I heard complaints about icon's peak breaking. Also thought about Caberg tourmax but heard it was loud and soft. I don't see a review of their Xtrace which also has a drop down sun visor. Any thoughts? Running an Aria Signet Gt which has seen better days and needs to be replaced. Its a snug Large size
@RevZilla8 жыл бұрын
+John Bennett The peak visors are primarily designed to deflect roost offroad, not as a sun shield. If you adjust the peak visors to their lowest positions, though, they do provide a bit of shade. For the best sun protection in a dual sport helmet, I therefore recommend the Nexx XD1 in XL (it fits tighter than the Signet), as it has an internal sun visor. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/nexx-xd1-helmets

One thing that I would add. When I bought my Hornet a couple years ago, I had Arai and the Hornet side by side. I was really thinking Arai. I put them both on and tried to fasten them. The thing that made the decision for me was that I had to hunt for the d-rings on the Arai. Everytime. I took it off and put it on multiple times and I had to hunt and dig for the d-rings with my fingers. The Shoei, each time I put it on the d-rings were hanging right where they should be. I think the d-ring strap is an inch to and inch and a half longer. So I thought, I like both helmets so why should I fight with the d-rings everytime I put it on. Bought the Shoei. Like it a lot. Could be quieter.
