I first bought enduro helmet and I hated it, it's heavy and you start to have pain in the shoulders after riding some time, you freeze your face in the winter, the sunblocker pulls your head to the back in the road in high speeds thus giving you neck pain(which can evolve to a worse problem in your body) In January I went to Uruguay with my Bell M4R and it was good enough, not perfect but I made it better than with the enduro helmet. It has the problems that you say but for me it pays off. Sometimes, in the trip, it was hot as hell inside my helmet and I could barely breath, so I had to open the visor many times due the minimum space inside the helmet, but opening just a little bit was good enough. I don't have bluetooth mics but I can see this as a problem. Also I did not had problems in the offroad. In conclusion, I think that a >light< enduro helmet beats the street helmet in hot weather, otherwise I would stick with street helmets.

You make pretty good videos, but just a suggestion - Invest in an external mic or do something about the acoustics in your recording room... The low quality of the audio in these vids detracts from the great information you're sharing.

Yes, I know. The problem is that I have to change the camera. The one I have doesn't have microphone plug. A good camera is about 700 euro. For this amount money I will make nice 10 days trip. I will do it as soon as possible.

Motorcycle Adventures U can use an external audio recorder, like a phone or something. Buy a more or less good microphone to put in it. When editing u get rid of the camera audio track, and replace it with the external audio track. Cheap solution! ☺️ Love your videos. Very informative. Keep it coming!

Good on you mate , great vid. I have almost always chosen a helmet with a peak. When riding into the sun a peak will throw a band of shadow onto your visor. Through this shadow you will be able to see clearly. No flare, no scintillation. It is so much easier riding during that last hour of sun-up.

I have been using a street helmet Full clear visor with an internal amber flip down half visor for long distant riding for over 30 years. Also I wear glasses. Most street or full helmets now have room built in for aftermarket bluetooth headphones and microphone systems. Glasses: you can find great frames that work well with the helmet and not worry about breaking them. Yes it can be hot. Again, the better the helmet the better ventilation. Better the helmet the lighter. Most have a winterization kit for your head, neck, and chin. Plus an anti-fog mask cover for the mouth air intake. You can buy anti-fog wipes or spray;Works great on all visors and glasses. No noise, no windsail or neck torque from the wind. Easy riding

Agreed! My Tip: Nishua Enduro Carbon (Seller: Louis Motorrad) super lightweight (there's a non-Carbon Version too, bit heavier). It's a Enduro-shape (bit Shorter, but still Room to breathe on demanding Terrain), removable (2-step adjustable) Beak, sufficiently ventilated, Pinlock as a Standard and a removable Chin-Curtain for cols Days / Autobahn. What i like most about it, is the fit (nearly as comfy as an Arai XD-4) with my oval Head-shape. then the Weight (full Setup is 1270 grams!) Tested by a well known Magazine, as the impact-safest on the Line-up (couple of years ago), even safer than the above mentioned Arai! Roomy! enough space for Comfort and Loudspeakers, Mics, etc., whilst Fitting snugly where needed. Double-D Ring equipped! sufficient Visor-Verntilation even in cold and humid Conditions (whilst moving fast enough to ventilate of Course!) Cons: It's quite big! So for really fast riding or for the pure Looks, it's not yours. the Top-Vent is difficult to reach with the Beak on. The Chin-Strap is looooong! the Frontvent is not adjustable. It's bearable for Temperatures around 0° C, way below that, it get's really cold on your Face / in your Eyes. Certification: ECE 22.05, so it's all good. Further: The KLIM KRIOS Adventure is the same Helmet with a bit different (more modern-edgy) shaped Plastics (Beak and Spoiler) Prices: I Paid 299 € for my Nishua Enduro Carbon. Price as currently lowered to 239 € The KLIM KRIOS Adventure (at least in Germany) costs around 600 €! Hope that helps.

Flip face helmet every day of the week. And yes, the relatively expensive ones (Schubert, Nolan...) Not for nothing that professional riders like police (who wear the thing for many many hours daily!) mostly wear these. At least, in the Netherlands and Germany, where they put in lots of straight highway hours in near-perfect road and relatively forgiving weather conditions. Also, for the glasses-wearers among us, by far the easiest option do get on and off. Easy to take apart and clean. Then, about the pinlock. You don't just take out and scrub a pinlock :) If dust or moist gets inside the pinlock, either you applied it wrong or you have the wrong model (or one with a manufacturing problem or something). Or you lust let is sit for too long in hot or cold conditions which dries out or shrinks the little rubber line along the edges. Pinlock is freaking awesome, but yeah it's an expensive luxury and you have to watch it and replace it about once every year, two years or so.

I like your channel and I agree that for the road, the street helmet is the best choice and the dual sport is the best for off road. I have always bought Shoei for comfort, quality. I can wear my glasses underneath and my current model is a Neotec 2 Separator . I shop at the best shop in Belgium and they will show you Exactly how to mount and adjust your pinlock correctly, so it seals completely and no moisture or dirt will get underneath. Yes, the pinlock scratches easily, because the pinlock is a softer material, so keep your fingers away and clean it with a microfiber cloth and cleaning fluid only. I commute to work every day for 1,5 hours all year round in Belgium : even on very long rides wearing my helmet has never been uncomfortable. I spend more money for a very good quality helmet, because I need to wear it a lot and I want to be safe and comfortable. Spending a lot of money on a good bike and then skimp on your gear and helmet? That's just plain stupid. Oh and I can breathe very well with the visor closed and the vents closed when it rains when riding on the street ( It's probably different for offroad when you are working on yr bike but who would use a street helmet for offroad? ) Keep your pinlock clean and even in winter it will not fog up. If mine starts to fog up , I know I have to clean it. If it fogs up in between , it needs to be adjusted and refitted, because that means it leaks somewhere or the soft sealing rim is damaged. Then you need to replace it.

I prefer the enduro style helmets when using full face helmets. For cleaning the visor, I use a micro fiber cloth. The microfiber cloth folded and used to brush dust from the visor doesn't seem to scratch the way cotton cloths or paper towels do. I have also had some success with a polish called Flitz. It is a very fine polish and I have used it on windshields and visors for years to clean without scratching. There is also a product called Micro Mesh for polishing scratches from acrylic windscreens in aircraft. It will allow you to remove some more serious scratches but it is a process that may take a few hours.

I think this is one of those - what are you doing- situations. If you are just touring with some bad roads, I would want the safest and quietest helmet. If I was riding some serious trails, I would want the other helmet. Since I plan on riding slower and on roads that are not very challenging, I will opt to keep my hearing.

I might try a dual sport type in the future, but I do not ride off road. My long trips over the past 50 years have always been with a full face street helmet. I do not find the need for a microphone. My current helmet is a Bell with a transition lens, that darkens automatically in the sun and lightens on cloudy days or at night.

Modular street helmet for me. Try different brands and models to find the one that fits you best, including enough space in front of your chin/mouth. Very comfortable regardless of how many hours you ride, perfect for highways and streets, still works good off-road, in cities if you feel like it, just flip the front up and get more air-flow than an enduro helmet. If you pass through check-points, police or need to ask directions no need to remove it, just flip it up. Now for a 100% off-road trip an enduro or dual sport may be better, but for longer mixed trips I'll stick with a modular street helmet.

Modular for me. I don't ride off road on purpose (BMW R1150R) and have some thousands of miles with a simple HJC helmet. Very comfortable and I love the integrated sun visor. The movable chin bar allows me to put glasses on before the helmet and I enjoy riding with the bar up at low speeds. I also have a small Wunderlich windscreen extender so I ride with the visor open unless it's super cold. Most of the bug splats end up inside the visor :)

Happy New Year. All good points, I prefer to use a modular, nearly all road riding of course. A great benefit is you can open it when dealing with border and other authorities, when people can see your face, they are happier to talk as one human being to another. Only a couple of models on the market that are modular / touring / enduro, Schuberth looks like the best but like you said, not everyone can spend that kind of money and damage or lose it and you will cry.

I guess helmets are like the bikes we chose to ride, always a compromise. I do not like street helmets, like you say they become a little claustrophobic, modular helmets are similar when down but I find if you flip the front up when riding to get more air they fell a little top heavy. I have tried an open face style with a visor and they are OK until it rains then I get water down the front of my jacket because they leave your neck exposed. Adventure style helmet works good for me as like you I wear goggles on the dirt, more to keep the dust out of my eyes. I was talking to a guy who bought a Schuberth helmet, the flip front adventure style and it cost $1400 Aus, I nearly fainted, my Bell adventure cost me $300 Aus much more reasonable price. Great topic, thanx for the vid.

For me lightness was the most important ,maybe I have a weak neck but I thought I would have to give up riding before I splashed out on a light helmet. . I regularly do 200 to 450 mile long daily trips and long tours . Sometimes pinlocks work great ,sometimes after riding with visor up moisture can get trapped between the pinlock and visor ..worse than useless then ! Also its not clear the legality of using a pinlock visor at night. Happy adventures !

I usually agree with you, but now is not the case... Proper street, as you call them, helmets are lighter and much less noisy. You mentioned aerodynamics already. The lack of space is not an issue if you buy a newer model communication device. Also I never had a problem with the visor fogging. Pin-lock works as a charm. Same goes for the glasses, there are helmets with liners that have space for glasses. Ventilation: well if you buy a good helmet it won't be a problem. Of course, when I say good I don't mean $100-200 helmets. Those are good for lesser bikes (200-300cc) and city commuting. I know that $500 is much for a helmet for many people but it is the thing that you have all the time on you head while driving. It is protecting your head, and affecting the whole riding experience. So light, well ventilated, quiet as possible and with the best possible visor. I like those with springs that almost vacuum the visor... And flip-up helmets are way to heavy and noisy in my opinion. Plus they usually don't look that good. And while driving longer distances I can't wait to take my helmet off anyway, no matter what type it is... Keep up the good work, maybe improve a bit the quality of your mic, and happy holidays with a lot of safe and enjoyable miles...

Good video. My opinion if I'm going from Hungary to Croatia or GReece (99% of the trip is high way or motorway) I still prefer street helmet. But if I will get more experience as a tour rider I'm planning to go further and for that I think dual sport is the best choice because there are features on those helmets that I will miss in certain situations if I was wearing a street helmet. I'm a very beginner adventure rider and this is just my opinion. Of course somebody can wear enduro helmets on shorter distances (few thousand kilometres) but one thing I'm 100% sure: if I will go to a REAL long motorcycle trip not choosing enduro/dual sport would be a great mistake...

So, Dual Sport has more ventilation and comfort so would be great in hot climates and short trips, whereas the Street Helmet has better noise cancellation and less buffeting at high speeds - I'm gonna go with the Street Helmet on those long haul continental trips; Lets face it much of Northern Europe can get rather cold and constant buffeting/wind turbulence at high speeds is going to take its toll on those neck muscles.

@peterweller35758 жыл бұрын
I don't comment much on YT. I don't find your reply, but here's mine: Bought it for €174 when it was on sale and I had a coupon on top. Normal price is €299. Looks like they'll be rolling out an Enduro GT soon. Starting from €199, with integrated shades, but no Carbon fiber. This adds ca. 300g to it.

I prefer the modular [street] helmet, but open cause high wind resistance. Several new modulars now streamline the chin guard behind the helmet to reduce drag. They are a bit more expensive, but I'm saving for a better one.

How about modular helmets? It is a bit heavier and more expensive. On the other side they allow you to access your face and get some fresh air without having to take off the helmet. Some models are legal to use while open. What do you think?

Recently bought a modular, & have used it for 1,000 miles. It's great for me because my nose is always running & often I have to stop & use a tissue. Also, if I'm on a slow relaxing ride, I can lift the chin-bar & smoke a cigar. I haven't been in hot weather yet, it's winter here in northeastern USA.

My Caberg Tourmax is a systeem-enduro helmet which has even more advantage: in city one can ride it like a jet helmet. Very reasknable price on internet I found it for 200 euro in September

I would recommend a good quailty full face helmet like shoei brand ..this helmet saved my life !! Xr1000 full face I broke my top jaw, teeth got smashed out also..lost one tooth the other two manage to push them back into the jaw which got repaired My front teeth and jaw smashed the inside of the helmet on impact. The front chin part of the full face took all the impact and saved my face from being ripping off..just lost a tooth but could of been much worst ! The person who ran in front of me did not survive.. i have nightmares over this ..it was a accident not my fault but sometimes i wish it was me who died

I have a sports bike and ride with all the gear. I bought a enduro last year and bought the off road gear and I find the helmet to let more air flow and it feels lighter. If its a rainy day the sports bike helmet is far better than the enduro.

Would a flip-up helmet like the SHOEI Neotec be a good alternative. I will be travelling 800km at a time to reach my destination of which only 25km is off-road to get to the camp site.

Dual sport due to its gap let more noise inside and if crossing a dusty stretch, dust will simply enter and harm eyes whereas though, street has no room but prevents noise and dust.

This is exactly what I want to know. Thanks. I have a question about the motocross helmets for long distance travel in humid/rainy conditions. The Leatt 5.5/6.5 has helmets that have separate waterproof covers for each of its air vents Would this be a logically choice? The helmets are well vented but I'm worried that the interior cushions around the eye opening would act as a sponge when it rains. Yet I see many riders use this type of motocross helmet for long distance travel.

Just curious.. why didnt you think of a Flip up/modular helmet as a more viable option for long trips? I mean they give you more convenience and are a good balance between safety and comfort. I ride with a Caberg Duke flip up helmet for my longer tours and my Nolan N87 full face for shorter (hour/two hour) trips. Am happy to see you using a Nolan as well. I feel the flip up gives you much more convenience. You dont have to take it off everytime you stop. It has a sun visor, aerodynamics are better than Enduro and overall comfort is much more than either of them.

I use a modular Nolan with internal "sun glasses" and built in BT Coms. I have to agree about the lack of chin space. I've twice had a bee fly into that small space though. I wonder would enduro helmets catch more bees. As for the sun visor, I have a strip of black insulation tape on the bottom edge of my clear shield that functions as a sun shade when I open the visor and it can be positioned to perfectly shade my eyes. Thanks for you videos. They are very informative and obviously based on lots of experience and sound logical thinking. Cheers, from sunny Australia.
@CanzZz6 жыл бұрын
well i cant complain about catching too many bees with my dual sport helmet... actually i dont catch anything. in 2 years i got 1 spider walking across my visor at 120km/h and 1 huge fly smashing so hard on my visor that half of it was full of fly incredients xd thats all. no insects on or behind the visor at all

I’ve spent days in my Arai Signet Q. I ride colder climates, however. The Signet Q has a drop-down chin curtain and it’s given me a little relief from freezing. I rode with my Simpson down in Florida and the open chin area definitely circulated a lot more air! Modular helmets tend to be heavy. That said, I probably should still try an enduro helmet (especially in the summer). I don’t ride with a Bluetooth unit (usually), so I usually like helmets that include cut-outs for the speakers (I wear headphones with noise cancellation for distance rides to try to save what’s left of my hearing) at the ears, but I don’t tend to use them.
