Funny how in a handful of years we went from “dual wielding swords was never done, it’s something from video-games” to every second HEMA club studying historical sources with dual wielding techniques.

In the earlier days a lot of content and comments online were about correcting myths. The idea of dual wielding being common was a fantasy trope, and it still is. But dual wielding itself was viable and used, in different combos. It just wasn't common and there isn't a ton of sources. All of them are also after the 1500.

It was also a nice thing to practice during lockdown since you need a certain degree of individual coordination. So for most, it's just a fun challenge as well ☺️

@@borislavkrustev8906 Indeed, the myth went from dual wielding existing to dual wielding being common. Not a bad progression!

@@borislavkrustev8906 Not really, dual wielding is historically accurate in Chinese Han period thousand years ago.

I remember the KZbin history community saying: "duelwealding is impossible you have to be so skill full at a point where there no point to put the energy in it." I think people have to try things out first, and try it more than once and for a longer time periode, often they try something once or twice and say it does not work, but all the things you do the first time does not work very well

My brain got twisted just watching it! I can't imagine how hard it's to practice! Too many variables! Dual wielders were probably the worst nightmare for every duellist!

I enjoyed the video. I don't know how intentional it was, but I could certainly spot 1.33 buckler-moves in the off-hand sword. Interesting to see the interactions, thank you!

Well Done, we recently did. some double falchion sparring as well (18th Century Style)

Great video as always Federico! That being said, have you ever considered editing your sparring videos to make a red marker appear on the hit locations, or something along the lines? I personally find it a lot easier to keep up and learn with the action that way. Cheers!

it is interesting that even though FMA incorporates some Spanish fencing the style is still very different. I really thought i would seem more similarities. good video.

That feint of the points at 6:11....you sneaky weasel 😂 out of measure but you tottaly got her on tempo. Man I'll contact you as soon as I'm.visisting france and we need to have a few rapier/dagger bouts. Maestro Leoni has taught me some about it and I love it Oh and can you look into Giganti and give us à small série maybe? It's such a nice offensive style and a change from Capofero and the likes. And that usage of the tempi.....so good.

There are some HEMA clubs in Finland, the only one I can redirect to is in Helsinki: ehms.fi/ There are others in the country but I don't know where, so start from there, maybe contact the instructors and ask. Cheers

How do you think dual wielding does against something like a longsword or sword and buckler?
@FedericoMalagutti3 жыл бұрын
I did SEB vs DW and against LS too. Personally I felt great advantage using DW swords and my opponent felt the same in both cases. You generally have a very good advantage against LS and a little advantage vs SEB considering a more or less equal skill level. I did also DW vs Spear, but probably I’ll upload some footage of it in the future
@borislavkrustev89063 жыл бұрын
I personally don't see a deciding advantage in s&b, just different priorities. It becomes more about who can create the context for the optimal actions for his weapon. Against regular sized (14-15th C) longswords, there is a more clear advantage, yeah.
@FogmanS2N3 жыл бұрын
As the one who was on the buckler side: I found it really really hard to deal with DW using S&B. That is simply because the two swords can keep both of the sword and shield occupied at once so you tendo to lose a good part of the great utility of the buckler in controlling the opponent's blade and opening the other's guard. Plus, one of the opponent's swords also provides basically an unchecked threat which you have to take into account, which you can only deal with defensively without a real counter-threat, since your offensive tool is busy elsewhere with the other one.
