That tip about the harmonics on the sub is gold. You've singlehandedly solved a problem I hadn't been able to classify and fix, less than 3 minutes into the tutorial.

I purchased a Squier Classic Vibe 50s p bass just to record a dub techno album. I also prefer synth sub basses.

Damn learned bass and has to learn synth. Luckily it somewhat made sense when I looked at the synth like a pedal board. But sheeesh. Had to get funky on bass and on keys.

Can you do a tutorial on making a reggae dub song like this please
@psybursonic2 жыл бұрын
Are you looking for a style-study video? There’s a pretty broad range of things that work to make a song sound dub. Real quick I’d say the elements of a dub track for me are: 1. upbeat “skank” for the chords 2. bouncy bass lines with short repeated notes mixed in. 3. sometimes a pillowy kick 4. Often rim shots on the 2nd and 4th beat 5. generous reverb and delay I’ll think about what things might be useful to say about each of these elements over the next few weeks. Perhaps there is a video there. Thanks!

I've been trying to create a bass tone like Ott and just have not been able to get there with Kontakt instruments. Thanks for this!
@psybursonic2 жыл бұрын
For Ott-style bass tones, you might also try something like EZ Bass. Find a funky Sienfield-ish electric bass sound and then pull out the highs with a filter. Great sound!
@danielgreen23482 жыл бұрын
@@psybursonic I've got my eye on it but it'll have to wait. I just finished shelling out for Komplete. I had to have those tribal drum kits. I hear good things about EZ Bass, though! Have you tried Modo bass? I see a lot of people recommend that as well.
@psybursonic2 жыл бұрын
@@danielgreen2348 haven’t tried modo but I’ll check it out. I bet Kontakt has some funky electric bass you could roll off and get similar results with 🙂

Ayy that last trick is super interesting, thank you! Would it work in Pro-Q3 or Volcano 2?
@psybursonic2 жыл бұрын
It will work with ProQ or any filter you have really. I use Volcano cuz the modulation is built right in so it’s a quick setup. I used to use Logic’s midi FX (modulator) to move bands on Pro-Q. Volcano is just easier now.
@yaggayaggaya99182 жыл бұрын
@@psybursonic hey! I used Pro-Q and Abelton's Max4Live LFO, saved it as a preset. works well. Thanks again for the video

SO sick. Is this Sub Bass stereo or completely mono?
@psybursonic10 ай бұрын
I most often make my bass completely mono, and then perhaps add stereo harmonics later on, but the core bass is mono
