Sweet tutorial for a classic sound ^^ I think weird scales like this are so satisfying because of the surprise. I'm reminded of parallel chords, which are so dominant in classic electronica because of chord sample transposition. It's like a shortcut to sounding jazzy that I suspect many producers didn't even realize they were doing. Definitely into retro tutorials

F E C# C actually is F E Db C which is F minor (B E A D with flats). F G Ab Bb C Db Eb F is the minor natural scale.

or a c phrygian dominant depending on what you think of as the tonic, and here specifically i think c phrygian dominant is more fitting

You're so close to that 'there is no spoon' moment with 12TET and discovering the joy of xenharmonic stuff. I think the scale you were admiring is called Byzantine, but it might be a little different... similar feel to it though. There's a scale in 14 (notes per octave) that sounds similar, if you search 'Zia Ellipse' on youtube you'll find a song that uses it.

Dash can you also make a tutorial on how you can sit down straight for a long time, without having any back pain, how you strengthen your back, what you do for it? xD It'd be also helpful for us. What is your secret weapon? :D
@DashGlitch9 ай бұрын
There’s no secret weapon bro, I also have back issues, in fact pretty severe. It’s important to have a good chair and bed, but yea I get it bad
@Italliving9 ай бұрын
in practice set you timer every 20-30 minuets go walk it off , stand up, get a desk that allows you to stand or sit and indeed get a saddle seat or a saddle stool and you have an effective and ergonomic solution against neck, back and shoulder pain is according to many a very good choice versus an office or gaming chair
@xenostim9 ай бұрын
You should try a standing desk, along with a high quality mat to stand on (the kind that are used in workplaces, ideally almost an inch thick).
@mylogify9 ай бұрын
I like to sit down when I can I already stand up all the time, and when I am looking at my laptop on desk I like to sit down, but my problem eases when I train my back with some exercises. My problem is due to holding guitar leaning towards it and also too much exhausting my back. Now I need to focus on my back exercise a little.

@@DashGlitch I figured, and mine too. The flexibility and integration with the snapheap/mutlipass ecosystem is pretty hard to beat. I’d still love to see a Serum 2.0, if we ever get it. I gotta say, this scale isnt breaking music theory... its called target harmonic minor! (Harmonic minor starting on the 5th!!! Its used to solo on minor chord changes, and eastern people rep it too!) ALSO edm music uses lots of scales with the flat 2nd! (Phrigian and this scale are super popular!) Its because we design the overtones of a sound around a note, and minor scales/ smaller intervals dont stretch the overtones as much! You can design sounds to fit in more major keys by modulating the waves based on the note... so that they stretch when you play higher and are kind of formant-preserved!
@We_Run_Up_Hills9 ай бұрын
Im still testing that last point! Saw it on an au5 tutorial!!

I think it just takes a back seat to groove, I know about flat second I use it all the time, but major third is strange for a minor mode, just my observation. Turns out there’s a bit of a divide but it’s a non traditional scale that’s for sure.
@MrMikomi9 ай бұрын
I think only Phrygian has a flattened second.

I don't think we are necessarily "locked" into scales or theory, it's just a tool to help you compose faster. If you have to experiment with all half-semitones or even more precise tones, you 'll spend years building something unless randomness is your friend and creates something with a good vibe naturally for you. You need a lot of chance or a lot of spare time to compose with no tool at lot and just be lead by inspirational sounds.

True but A lot of beginners think it’s a rule not to be broken, including myself up until few years ago
@ErixSamson9 ай бұрын
@@DashGlitch I've learned theory by myself, and I'm glad I did it. There are also good plugins to support music theory, like Scaler 2 and Captain Plugins, for instance. Even music theory provides multiple ways to break tonal rules like modulation, approach notes, non chord tones, borrowed notes and chords, chromatisms, enclosures, etc.
