I did not think it would turn out that nice. I've seen a lot of spray paint jobs that totally ruin a rifle but this one is actually my favorite camo design I've ever seen.

I've never seen a rattle can camo job ruin a gun.. so as long all important parts are masked. It's a tool, paint it, use it hard and keep it clean. I guess if you're going to resell it one day, probably don't touch it.. but to each their own.

I think your method is the best I've seen. People don't see the fine little snakeskin patterns from netting or whatever from a distance. Neither do animals. At distance they see larger discrete blobs of color or gray. Too. Much of similar color looks solid at distance. And you see the silhouette. You need larger aresas of strong contrast to break up the outline. I've done it and did the clear coat too. However I found that even a Matt finish will be somewhat shiny and reflect light. So I either take a little steel wool and scuff it or I omit the clear coat so the flat paint is flat and reflects the least amount of light. I'm gonna try the sponge method next!

Nice results with a simple technique. I sprayed a gun recently the usual rattle can way, at the end I decided to paint the receiver side walls and used the white spongy packing foam you get in many product boxes nowadays. Thought the intro was a bit long...but I couldn't stop laughing. Thinking of purchasing a new rifle and it comes in an all black synthetic stock. I was thinking of doing a camo job on it, but thought it would be way too much work to spray paint it (using the can on the rifle directly) since I'd need to remove the buttpad and I'd have to watch out for gripping area (synth checkering). Your method simplifies all of this! I love it.

No primer needed, does this give disadvantages? No roughing up the stock first to make the mechanical bond stronger? Did you really just paint onto your bare plastic stock or was this already coated in some kind of paint? Is the same procedure possible with the (presumably) Nylon stock of a Ruger American Ranch .223 FDE as well, no primer needed?
@HoosierHunter3 жыл бұрын
I just started painting directly over the factory stock. Just be sure to clean well with alcohol first. Several of my rifles still holding up just fine after years of being painted. Should be fine on your Ruger, I would think.
