The Righteous Brothers were known as having Blue Eyed Soul. This song was the most requested song of the 20th century! In 1999 the performing-rights organization Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) ranked the song as the most-played song on American radio and television in the 20th century, having accumulated more than 8 million airplays by 1999,[4] and nearly 15 million by 2011.[5] It held the distinction of being the most-played song for 22 years until 2019, when it was overtaken by "Every Breath You Take".[6] In 2001 the song was chosen as one of the Songs of the Century by RIAA, and in 2003 the track ranked no. 34 on the list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time by Rolling Stone. In 2015 the single was inducted into the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".[7] n 1964, music producer Phil Spector conducted the band at a show in San Francisco where the Righteous Brothers was also appearing, and he was impressed enough with the duo to want them to record for his own label, Philles Records. All the songs previously produced by Spector for Philles Records featured African-American singers, and the Righteous Brothers would be his first white vocal act. However they had a black vocal style, termed blue-eyed soul, that suited Spector.

Hey don't want to say anything wrong but do want to mention the righteous brothers were one of the groups that decided "black people music" as it was called back then deserved it's come uppance and did it themselves so people would see how good it was. Different times and different ways of doing things and you saying they got soul a lot of soul artists have quoted them as an influence like Ashanti is the only one I can think of right now it's almost 5am. But just like Jerry Lee Lewis they loved music they weren't supposed to listen to and did it on their own so people would love and accept it also! So, yeah the righteous brothers have some really soulful music because that's the music they loved and wanted everyone else to love it to but could only do so much at that time and hope it got better!

Bill Medley: “At that time, Orange County was about the whitest place in the country. There were black Marines from El Toro Marine base that heard there were these two guys singing rhythm and blues. So, they came to hear us. They had their own way of talking. If white guys liked something, they’d say ‘That’s cool’ or ‘bitchin.’’ A black guy would say, ‘That’s righteous.’ If they liked you as a friend, they’d call you ‘brother,’” explained Medley. “I think it was Bobby who said, ‘What about the name the Marines have been callin’ us, the black guys. How about the Righteous Brothers?’ I said, ‘Oh man, I would love that.’ That was it-we put it on the record. The black Marines from El Toro Marine base named us.”

They weren't called the Righteous Brothers for nothing my friend. I loved them when i was a teenager. So glad to see them appreciated again. Bobby Hatfield got taken down by drugs, so horribly sad and such a waste but he's being appreciated posthumously. Life is such a trip, isn't it?

It’s a shame that I just want to make love to you couldn’t get the same amount of airtime back then due stuffy tv and and radio executives at the time. I guess they were worried about blowback as well.

Shame on me for not suggesting The Righteous Brothers. They weren’t brothers by blood (the name came from from black service members that would say “you sound righteous brothers”). They toured together until Bobby Hatfield (on the left) died in 2003 the night before their next tour. Bill Medley (on the right) continued to perform their work until the pandemic hit. Apparently he has family that clue him in on people’s YT reactions to them as well.

These guys were originally called "The Paramores" but in those days, there were black clubs and white clubs, and people in the black clubs thought that this was a black group, and people would say "Play them Righteous Brothers again", and the name stuck. For the recording session of Unchained melody, Bill Medley was stuck in traffic, so they decided to lay down Bobby Hatfield's track first. When Bill heard it, he refused to record his parts, because he said that it was perfect just the way it was. He later joked that he never thought that it would be a hit, and that he's been kicking himself ever since.
