HE TOLD HIM PEOPLE ARE COUNTING ON HIM AND HE KNEW HE COULD DO IT.. THEY DID THIS IN PIECES WITH DIFFERENT AUDIENCE. THEY GOT DONE WITH IT BEGINNING OF DEC. 1968 HE DID IF I CAN DREAM ON THE STAGE AND HE WANTED TO GIVE THE SONG BETTER RESPECT AND DOING IN WHITE SUIT AND THE RED TIE WAS DONE OUT OF RESPECT FOR TWO GREAT MEN THAT WAS MURDED. M.L.K. AND R.F.K. FOR BOTH MEN WE'RE DEMENSTRADING AND FIGHTING EQUAL RIGHTS.. Elvis was a humble giving soul. There are so many stories of him sending limos to take people to go to the pharmacy, buying cars and houses for people. When he died they were astonished he had so little of his fortune left. He gave it all away to those in need.

Elvis is a one-of-a-kind talent. He served his country in the Army & was a black belt in Karate. He put a lot of those moves in his performances. He also worked to employ black entertainers for his backup singers & musicians, when possible, his entire career. Also, Elvis waived all proceeds from the song & 100% went to the Red Cross disaster relief & this song continues to make money, over 50 years later.

What you are hearing and what you are seeing is 100% the black churches and gospel influences that Elvis grew up with and attended. Something he always acknowledged and paid tribute to. The vocal range and control and super smooth baritone and vibrato were God given and have yet to be equaled. The message and the song are timeless as is the real Elvis, not the caricature he eventually he became. And even then his voice never faltered. Thanks, The King is a well deserved title. 👍🏼

And he would be targeted by bigots from that day on, once again, just as he had been in the 50s when he started. He had quite the fascination with guns himself and he knew he was a target, especially in such troubled times and assassinations of famous people which seemed like they were happening weekly. Elvis was truly one of a kind. If anyone called him a racist, they simply did not know this man because he was genuinely not one. In fact he refused to "look the other way" like much of society was doing and did whatever he could, including changing the music business, including music venues, to be more inclusive of people of color. His VOICE and heart, in no small part helped to change the entire nation for the better. And his voice and legacy are still doing that.

I LOVE me some Elvis SO MUCH, but I believe that he ties being the G.O.A.T with his once son in law Michael Jackson! Michael was more of my generation, but my grandma and I loved BOTH Elvis and MJ! I was 14 when Elvis died. Michael was an entertainer literally his whole life, starting as a kid. Elvis introduced Michael and Lisa Marie, his daughter and only child, when Lisa Marie watched the Jackson Five perform in Vegas, as she was a fan of the group, and especially Michael. She was 7 and Michael was 17 when they met. Many years later, they met again at a friend's dinner in 1992. They fell in love and married in 1994. I believe LMP and MJ both loved each other until the days that they died. Lisa Marie Presley was the love of Michael Jackson's life, and he was the love of hers. She said so in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2010, and even after. As a matter of fact, Lisa Marie took Michael to her family's Elvis tribute, where Elvis was on the big screen singing this very song, when they were married! They dated for many more years AFTER their divorce and were going to get back together. Michael's brothers said Lisa Marie Presley WAS Michael Jackson's love life. MJ and LMP both wrote many, MANY songs about each other.

Jane H commenting …. Elvis had a strong social conscience, & he was raised in a very poor black community, so always had a close affinity with black people. He hated the strict segregation laws he grew up with in Memphis, & even as a young performer of only 19 years old, he refused to live with segregation. He had the Best voice ever! I’ve been a big fan of Elvis since I was 15, & I’m now 72. Same goes for my husband. Elvis was such a caring man & his generosity is well documented. He would help anyone in need, no matter what colour their skin was. He might have died when he was only 42, but he will never truly die. He lives on in his music & he lives on in his fans. Great Reaction to this MLK tribute he did after the senseless assassination of that great man.

He never sang that again live. It is recorded. He felt it was too special. When he practiced this in the booth, people from NBC said he was sweating, pleading and almost in a fetal position. He is so emotive when he sings that he grabs your soul and doesn’t let go and you’ll feel tears running down your face & you don’t even know why. One just feels his passion. He didn’t talk a lot about stuff so it came out in his songs. Very rare and very versatile voice make it so special. Thanks again for this. I’ll check your list cause I just subscribed and am binge watching. But he has a live performance singing Bridge Over Troubled Water that is beautiful. God bless & stay healthy. ❤️🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻🎸👍🏻👏👏

I watched this 1968 Elvis come back special. I can't ever forget this last song.Actually took a couple years.Elvis was a level above all others. I still hurt from his passing. I started listening to him in 1960. I was 5 years old. Played Moms Elvis records everyday.

Elvis FELT the music and lyrics when he sang, especially songs like this. He was so real, so authentic and truly loved everyone. I'm in my sixties and grew up on Elvis. I've loved him for years. I went to his home in Memphis Tennessee, Graceland, and you can feel his spirit there. I absolutely LOVE seeing young people discover Elvis and his music! A few you might want to check out are Suspicious Minds, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Love Me Tender, Polk Salad Annie. Watch the ones that are from him in Las Vegas in 1970-1971. I look forward to seeing your reactions which I love watching!!

CERTAINLY AGREE WITH OTHERS COMMENTS. ONE THING NOBODY UNDERSTANDS WHEN ELVIS WAS ENDING THE SONG AND ONE ARM WAS SWINGING SO INTENSE AND HE WAS DONE HE PUT HIS TWO ARMS STRAIGHT UP IN AIR AND THAT WAS INTERNATIONAL FOR THE PEACE SIGHN..❤❤ HE SURE WAS A BEUTIFUL MAN AND SAID THE ROAD WOULD NEVER BEND WITHOUT A SONG SO I WILL KEEP ON SINGING A SONG.REST IN PEACE ❤❤❤

Yes he was also informed not to do this song because management was afraid of backlash. But Elvis insisted because of Martin Luther King. After the song he went backstage and curled up into a fetal position and cried. That's how much emotion he put into this song. That's why he's the king! He wanted peace among all mankind.

The story goes he was fighting back the tears while he was singing but once he left the stage he completely broke down.

Three of the most powerful and passionate songs that Elvis ever sang live were "In The Ghetto", "If I Can Dream" and "An American Trilogy" a song performed at the 1973 Aloha, Hawaii Concert. You've reacted to the first two of these great songs and I guarantee you won't be disappointed if you react to the third one "An American Trilogy" Live 1973 Aloha, Hawaii. Many Elvis fans consider "An American Trilogy" to be his absolute finest live performance ever!

I’ll def have to check out American trilogy so stay tuned

@@dubzer0649 Sounds great. There are two live versions of "American Trilogy" floating around on You Tube--one is the "rehearsal" video which isn't as good and the second is the actual live performance that he did in front of 1.6 BILLION people via satellite around the world in 1973 at the Aloha, Hawaii historic concert (it was the first concert that was ever televised around the world via a satellite). More people around the world watched this concert live on TV than did the number of people who watched the American astronauts first time landing on the moon four years earlier in 1969. In the "rehearsal" video he is wearing a small gold Hawaiian ley around his neck but in the actual concert performance he is wearing a large red ley around his neck and this is the video you want to react to and here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zne3ZIajj8StrpI

Great as what youve seen so far is, you havent even scratched the surface - Try songs from the excellent Aloha Hawaii worldwide satellite concert in 1973, like: "My Way", "American Trilogy", "Steamroller Blues", "You gave me a Mountain", "Never been to Spain", and from the (Vegas) shows try: "Just Pretend", "Suspicious Minds", "Love me Tender"(elvis kisses 30 girls-!), and Bridge over Troubled Water". Then theres the '68 comeback special in the black leather outfit and more intimate setting, try the songs "Tryin to Get To You", and "One Night With You" - He really has the womens eyes in his legendary all black leather pants and jacket.
