getting rid of valve spring drag allows these engines to make more power than another engine of the same size, even without revving any higher. this will be a torque monster and will not be prone to stalling.
@Motosportz5 ай бұрын
It not only allows higher RPM but more radical lift and duration. Additionally it has lees drag due to the lack of spring compression. All great things for making lots of usable power. Down side is more parts, more weight, harder to maintain. I think it will be a noticeable step forward in power. But, do we need more? Maybe this would be better in the 250 platform? Random thoughts.

Good point, 60hp is already unusable for most people. Still cool to see a manufacturer trying something different

Less parts actually. 😉

LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT CRANIUM! It's the size of a planetoid and it has its own weather system!

The harmonic balance in the exhaust note is going to be unlike any other sound a spring valve single cylinder layout produces. It will sound alien.

Should be very interesting. You can bet the other manufacturers are all over this. They will have it too.

Desmo tech has been around for a long time. Benz patented the design in 1889. Ducati has been using it since the 50’s. This isn’t anything other manufacturers haven’t already thought about.

I’m wondering about what kind of rigidity it’s going to have. That frame is pretty interesting.🤔

I like what Ducati has done making base from their principle. I don't have any criticsm even with the design of the bike. People notice that the fender looks dodgy but it's Ducati's trademark. So be it.

guys... they've been using this technology on their bikes for decades... now all they've done is shoehorn it into a 450cc motocross package. in superbike racing we used to call it "desmo-moronic"... it is by no means a game changer in the same way that other platforms transitioning to pneumatic valvetrain was in F1 and motogp. desmodromic has a few very small, marginal advantages. curious to see how this plays out in motocross. the bike looks like it would be a lot of fun to ride

Need a rotary valve system. No springs. Chain driven and the hollow tube one for intake one for exhaust has ports cut into the tube for the valve ports. Ceramic seals.

In my understanding, desmo is good but high maintenance. 2 sets of valve clearance per valve. Also, spring recoil energy is easier on the timing chain and sprockets. Time will tell. Clean air filter will be critical

My 2008 gt 1000 didn't need any valve adjustments for 43 thousand miles, I rode it very aggressive.

No I haven't are they known for being high maintenance?

It’s an ingesting design. But I would say definitely needs more attention then say a YZ 450.. check out the design. It’s amazing. Has some advantages. Wither valve being able to rev to the moon. However needs attention. It will be interesting to see how it does in a dirt bike. They certainly have killed it on pavement!! You buy one I’ll ride it!😜😂

Nice maintenance costs right there i bet there’s going to be a lot of amateurs riding that thing
@BuzzMXB4 ай бұрын
Bikes are already $8-10k stock by themselves. Add in aftermarket full exhaust system, clutch system, engine porting, spare tires, suspension, oils, gas, etc. sport is expensive anyway. Amateurs get various sponsorships that help cut costs one way or another, including support from a local dealership and even support from bike manufactures. If you're a decent rider with good results you get contingency money from the bike manufacture you line up and race on. If you're a great amateur rider, the manufactures will bring you under their amateur factory support awning, ala Star Racing, Orange Brigade, Team Green, etc. Just a matter of time until Beta (meh), Triumph and Ducati roll out their own amateur race support programs.

All Ducati bikes have desmo engines. Nothing really new there.
@richardmann40065 ай бұрын
Yeah….he said that in the video. Ducati uses desmo valves. The new factor is the use of desmo valves in motocross.

This is nothing new this is old technology. This bike probably isn’t going to be very reliable in the real world but for racing Supercross I guess we’ll find out.

@@scotthantz3405 250s today are so goddamn good they’re sending them over big gulp with a shitty run up and that’s a 120ft triple going up hill. The 250s can throw on a vortex ecu and pipe and port job and you’re good to fuckin go why pay 3-5k more for a engine that will need more maintenance and more expensive maintenance for power you can get from a ecu mapping job!? Makes no sense unless they make the price competitive. Just like the stark you’re paying 14k for an electric bike that won’t be at your door until the next years model is out… that makes no fuckin sense paying for a brand new bike only for it to be last years model…. This has the same stupidity pay more for a more complex bike that ultimately has the same reliability but more costly to maintain and the reasoning is for power on a bike that doesn’t need more power…. @@scotthantz3405250 or 450 there’s plenty of power on every other brand literally half the price. Who wants to pay 20k for a dirtbike to just crash it and rag it out? Rich kids all I know.

So it will be a whole shot king. I wouldn’t be surprised if it has a simple map switch to change the motor’s torque curve on the fly.
