There are a lot of factors lads.... reaction time - rider skill - an equal start from a still position etc. I have ridden both and lets just say, there is a LOT more to a bike than acceleration. Build quality, manufacturer support etc. The Rocket is heavier but the 2.5 lt engine doesn't have to work anywhere as hard as the Diavel.... Personally, I'll stick with the torque and longevity of the bulletproof Triumph.

@Mike W When I was last at the factory I asked about issue with the Rocket. And they said they weren't aware of any. Although I'm sure that's not entirely true. But comparing a bike nearly 20 years, ago, made in a different factory, with zero carry over components isn't fair on Triumph. I'm sure every brand has had some problems. All I can say is I've owned six modern Triumph's and nothing has gone wrong, broken, or tarnished on any of mine; so I have confidence in their products.

dude they both hit at the throtle in almost egzacly the same time both bike was at optimal gear and both have shiftlights when change gear rocket have quickshifter ! dirver in rocket nothing do bad he ride very good change gear proper have full gas all the way up to 170-180 km/h on spedometer so your claim that alot depend on rider skill hear in this egzample dont count ! rocket is in fact slower bike not only at straight but also in corner 221 nm of torq is useless when its engine spin much slower than diavel 130 nm engine what matter is POWER TO WWEIGHT RATIO both bike also have similar drag aero so what we seen hear is egzacly diffrenc in power to wweight ratio more less offcorse rocket also have lil more power losses due to heavy drive shaft but yea diavel have stronger acceleration thanks better power to weight ratio thats cirtical factor hear and this matter in such drag race rocket 3r have around 410-420 bhp per tonne with 85 kg driver like i and diavel have 490 bhp per tonne around so 15-20% better power to weight ratio have diavel and egzacly we seen this on this drag race rocket 3r can match with such tech spec only on couple first metres all because road tire dont have enough traction and both bike cant use full power at start up to 50-70 km/h they go head to head becasue of to smalll road tire grip than when diavel start to can use more power from engine without loose grip =bye bye :x rocket would have to have like 190-200 bhp to go head to head wwith this diavel at this power level it start to have similar power to weoight ratio like diavel offcorse it was not intention/ prioryty of engineer which project this engine because if it were than rocker 3r will smoke diavel at straight :D and it is just what it is =stock diavel is faster than stock rocket 3r .,offcorse you can tuning stock rocket engine to ALOOOOOT horsepower than smoke stock diavel but who cares? well thsi who cares;) .

Peter Carr it only came on in 1st and second gear and it was the same for the diavel haha. Oh and we are in summer here in the down under lol, a top of 38c (100 fahrenheit)

I I have the 2020 rocket 3 gt love it and you travel on it as well got 205 miles out of 1tank...at a speed of 70-80 mph....and it was great road trip 367 miles...

Dare i say it, shift earlier on the Rocket. It pulls best upto around 5500rpm... Put a quick shifter on it and it might be a differenr result....

Rob Beck maybe for the old rocket III but this Rocket 3R pulls hard over 6,000rpm! It’s a huge step up from the previous model... in regards to a quick shifter, it most certainly needs one, however this 2013 diavel you could say the same as it doesn’t come with a quick shifter in its base model.

I agree with Rob after test riding the Rocket. Power tapers off after a certain point and it's wastful to try to redline it. I'm sure a dyno sheet will confirm this eventually. I just don't think that Ducati should walk it so dramatically as this video would suggest even with the weight advantage.

MalShakur each gear change was under 6,500rpm and considering the rocket 3s peak horsepower comes on at 6,000rpm it wasn’t loosing any grunt anytime soon and I can assure you it wasn’t redlining either. The flashing TFT display is the recommended gear change (as programmed by triumph) but I understand what you’re both saying in regards to the triumphs power delivery, however even with the short gear changes you still get the same result, you would see no dramatic changes...Now the fish eye lens on the gopros do make it deceiving, the Ducati wasn’t walking away as it appeared in the video. It was a great match up between the two bikes and I can’t confidently say the rocket 3 would have no problem walking away from any big V twin Harley lol.

I ended up buying the 3R because it was more comfortable and better looking. Ive raced against a diavel and these results are pretty dam accurate. he pulled away but after our big ride together my friend on his ducati was in a lot of pain becasue their suspension setup sucks!

@@6tdegrees Ducati also lied about the hp on that 2013 1200. It's the same engine as my '13 multi. It makes 150 at most. That Diavel usually puts down 130-135 to the rear wheel. But we should all know by now it's not peak hp and tq numbers that matter anyway, it's the curve. The 1260 has 15 more lb-ft at 5000 rpm. That's gonna make a big difference.

Ducati has more power to weight, the same way a Porsche with 350 hp is faster than a Range Rover suv with 400 hp. The rocket is a big heavy cruiser . The Ducati is more of a sports/ cruiser. The Ducati will always be faster in any race in a straight line or around turns. There is no scenario where the rocket wins in terms of performance.

first off, I love most bikes, I dont care about branding. if it drives, its good by me. I would rather have a $200 piece of crap then no bike at all. That being said, im in love with the Diavels back end look, that being said, If i was forced to buy the 3R, I would still ride with a smile, Also, no excuses guys, the 3R has double the displacement of the Diavel, Thats a waste of weight if it Cant perform much better then it does. when I buy a bike,i buy it with common scene needs to fit my budget, needs to fit my actual riding needs, and its good if it looks good in MY eyes, dont care what others think if it. I have so many friends that are super brand driven Biased and they by a bike purely for the name.

The R3 has always needed a filter, pipe and tune to perform like it should. It has always been restricted to death, and the new one is no different. It's a shame, actually. But if her owner is merciful enough to let her breath and rev decently, she will stomp the Duc easily.

Ive raced against the new ducati diavel and I can tell you these results pretty much justify what happened to me. the ducati is quicker but man my rocket 3r rides a lot better.

This video means nothing till i get my Triumph and try it myself 😜In which mode were you driving 3r? As far as i know you cant switch off the traction control on 3 r but in driver mode you can set it up to the least . Triumph claims 0-100 in 2,7 seconds - did you try ?

well this video say diavel is faster :x what is obvious if you look at power to weight ratio .I HAVE NEW MOTORRAD MAGIZNE WHERE IS test rocker vs diavel 1260s vs h-d fxdr so rocket weight 320 kg and show on dno 162 bhp diavel weight 250 kg and show on dyno 158bhp fdr is wa weaker so i will not compare it hear btw its diavel vs rocket topicso … so rocket have 395 bhp per tonne with 90 kg driver and diavel 460 bhp per tonne around and you have answer diavel have 1,1765 Times better power to weight ratio . diavel do 100-200 km/h in ther test in 6,7 sec nd rocket in 7,6 sec to 100 km/h diavel 3,1 ssec rocket 3,3 sec in real world from light alot be depend on driver skill but at longer stright even with worse rider from stand still on diavell soner or later diavel catch rocket and ride away in fact not ver hge diffrenc all thanks what diavel is stronger is its weight ., rosket in class is on 3 place in terms of straight acceleration nehinde vmax and new diavel 1260 thats fact at least in stock form .

Well no shit, the Ducatis engine is straight from a superbike, saying that Ducatis engines are already stretched to the max to get the power from their V twin a d hence tend to break easily, the trumpy is no Japanese bike in terms of reliability but it's still 10 times more reliable than a Ducati

Triumph destroyed what the rocket was. Now I can't put my wife on the back in comfort and hook my trailer up to do a coast to coast trip. The rocket lost the ability to attach panniers / saddle bags / top case and trailer hitch. 165 ft lbs of torque is not impressive out of a 2500cc engine when others do it in half that size. Shame on you Triumph.

What is the point of 165 ft lbs, if you can't use it, such as pulling a trailer or carring passenger plus luggage. Any modern super sport type engine from 600cc and up will away from this Triumph. High torque is great for carry big loads. Until someone comes out with a hitch that will bolt to a single side swingarm that much torque is useless. I haven't seen any real luggage options for it. Touring with isn't reasonable. For that price I can buy MANY other options more suited for touring. Check out the Yamaha Vmax $17,999. Far more bike then the current Rocket.

k2apache60 I do apologise if you’re a R3 fan, but it’s simple math really. Power to weight the Ducati was always going to win the race, no mater what gears or revs. As for a top gear race I wouldnt recommend it for the rocket 3r. Put simply - Top speed for the Ducati over 270km/h Triumph Rocket 3R... well nothing to shine a light at really.. 238km/h. Now that wouldn’t be a very exciting race now would it. Oh and look towards the top left hand side of the rocket 3s display, you can see what gears Matt was in. Cheers 🍻

6 gear is test of elasticity and it depend on if or not bike have overgear or how short really 6 is etc in theyr race is all about top end peak power racing capabilities for quarter mile dude and in this diavel is better period ., on 6 gear all depend what kind of rpm thanks gearing engine spin i try found aout what rpm they spin than im write you how such drag from 6 top gear start and end stay tune :x because im mustfirst drink some coffe ;) .

Calling a rocket 3 , esp the new one with 2500cc a couch is as dumb a thing as I’ve read on the internet this week. Clueless hardly rider I’m sure.

@@guins99 ok maybe a couch should be reserved for harleys. However, the rocket is just a stupid bike. As for "hardly a rider"? Raced motocross as a young man and have been riding since the 8th grade. So that would be since 1989. Parents wouldn't let me have a bike before then.

The bike itself isn’t bad looking but those ugly ass headlights ruin it.
