The Rocket from the factory will only give you approximately 60% throttle when you are wide open throttle! The ecu also restricts throttle positions throughout the rev range. Fortunately, we are now able to access the ecu and remove the throttle restrictions which moves our engine hp from 165 to around 200. The thing is so powerful, it spins the tire on hard accelerations and gear changes. It becomes scary quick, thus the phrase "awakening the sleeping giant"!

@@thefuture8173 It is a reasonable supposition, based on the fact that the previous models of the Rocket was restricted in first and second gear. Logically this has continued. Interesting matchup. I had an original Diavel, a 2014 Rocket III, 1260 Diavel with a quickshifter, 2022 Rocket 3 R, and a lot more bikes with 12 still in the garage. In pure acceleration stock, I agree with the results here but only the roll on race really helps tell the story. A quick shifter on the R3 would help it a fair amount. What I love about the Rocket is the incredible grunt it has regardless of RPM. To actually have the Diavel pull on the R3, the revs have to be pretty high. The R3 is so much smoother than the Diavel. The motor always feels like it is loafing along. I rode an R3 with just a tune, and it was amazing how much quicker it was. Supposedly an easy 25HP gain at the wheel and it felt like it. It revved out higher and it apparently you actually got full throttle in all gears. For less than a grand, you can transform the R3 and it was easily quicker than my XDiavel. The are both fun bikes but I'll keep the Rocket over the Diavel. I like it better for 95% of the riding I do. Running costs are far lower. None of the horrendous Ducati maintenance costs. It doesn't car what gear you are in. Add a passenger, it doesn't really seem to care. It impacts the performance far less, which is also true if you are a bigger rider as well. The R3 that came out in 2020 is so much better than the previous one that I'd never consider the earlier models but appreciate what they started. I did keep a 1260 Multi for whenever I have an itch to ride a fast v-twin.

FYI, the Triumph has a torque limiter in 1st - 3rd gear and a horsepower limiter in 5th and 6th built into the ECU out of the factory. This needs to be bypassed with a Power Commander and ECU flash to get the Rocket 3 to actually ride to spec. I'd be interested in seeing this re-done after an ECU flash.

Default throttle mapping for the rocket 3 is so neutered. Really needs a tune to undo the harm of the undertuning done to make Euro5. It's limited to 70% throttle even in sport mode. What sucks about the Rocket is that Triumph neutered the top end from the factory. If you look at the throttle mapping on the bike, at wide open (after a 3rd gear I believe) the throttle only opens to 65% and you can feel the sudden loss of power that comes with it. Luckily there’s a tune available for free online that really wakes the bike up but voids the factory warranty. Bumps up the power up by about 23-24 horsepower up top and removes the torque and horsepower restrictions for the lower gears as well. I still think though however the Diavel would still barley carve out a win even with un restricted Rocket. I gotta try a drag race with mine after I restrict it.

So, what is spelled out is if you are a heavy person and ride with a person on back, going up hill, chose the Triumph. It has the torque to pull the Duc every time. Flat line racing is for sport bikes. Two up riding, in the mountains, is a Rocket III's life... Torque is for weight pulling, whereas, HP is for racing... I like V-Twins for pulling and maybe a Rocket III is not so far off in my future.
@KimmoJaskari2 жыл бұрын
60 kilos is a lot, and not even twice the torque can fully make up for that. Now, I'm not sure how easy it is to mod the new Rocket, with all that fly by wire and stuff, but even at 160 horses the engine is barely tuned; the Diavel's half-size engine is considerably more peaky due to a harder tune to get the figures it has out of it. A very simple supercharger bolt-on for the older style Rockets could take them upwards of 300 horsepower, and they were still very rideable. That would definitely make up for the extra 60 kilos... :) 5-6 grand extra, to be sure, and not sure if anything is out there for the new one. Still, the Rocket power plant has hugely more headroom to tune than the Diavel, which is indeed apparently the speedier bike of the two in stock form. Great bikes too, even though I prefer the Rocket just for that tractor-like torque.

The Rocket is torque limited from the factory. With no other changes if a person puts a tune in that removes those limitations it opens up 25hp. I did that to my Rocket 3 GT and ran it on the dyno. 160hp and 144ftlbs at the rear wheel. The Rocket is in a really mild state of tune and it is really easy to get a lot more power out of them. You also need to get the quick shifter option on the bike, it helps going through the gears a ton because you can hit the rev limiter so fast.

A Ducati Diavel (not the X version) was the gateway bike that brought me to now own a fleet of Kawasaki race bikes: 2015 ZX14R, 2016 H2 Brocks Stage 2 @284hp and 2018 ZX10RR). I recently turned 59 and the riding posture of these aggressive race bikes has become very uncomfortable for my neck. The H2 being the hardest on these aging bones. Got me looking at the new Triumph Rocket III. Kinda hate to spend money on a newer version of the Diavel I already had. Maybe I’ll just put higher positioned clip-on handlebars on the H2. Excellent video BTW. Enjoyed seeing your kid brother.

In a head-to-head comp of apples to oranges. Great video, no doubt! Great bikes, no doubt! I'm the proud [owner] of a '22 Triumph 3 R GT POWER "CRUISER". It's my Rhino on a smooth liquid-cooled turbine engine. I'll make this brief, mates -- no disrespect. Throw some fancy full body cowhide with gear on a couple of road hoodlums, twist the throttle to the limiter and say "WOW" I'd say that's the DOPE! Kindly, you failed to mention the uniquely identifiable difference that makes these two-premium masterpieces of machinery live at the highest echelon. THE DRIVE TRAIN! ⚙

Always, for years. I’ve visited and toured the Factory in Hinckley but even now in 2022 I’d still buy a Triumph today. Best bikes I’ve ever ridden and my first bike was a 955i Daytona from 2001. Awesome bikes for sure and I’m truly sad I have to sell my Sprint 1050ST here in Australia to buy another in the UK since my fathers Parkinson’s diagnosis. But, family is family. Hope to own another Triumph once I’m home.

So is the Rocket still limited electronically? It sounds like it on the basis of the roll on performance. Removing the limiting would be interesting.
@giantslug69692 жыл бұрын
The Rocket is limited in both throttle and top speed electronically. Even in Sport Mode the Rocket only opens throttle to 70% with a full twist.

The old Rocket was even more brutal when it comes to power delivery. A stock one was almost tame with it's de-tuned 1st and 2nd and it's low rev limiter. With a little tuning they can be opened up and revved out. With a set of cams, some shim under buckets and a good flowing exhaust they make over 200hp at the wheel and are plain scary to open up. I have other bikes that are faster than my 210hp Rocket but none of them are as raw and difficult to control. It's probably my fastest 0-60 and 1/8th mile bike if the tire sticks but that's hard to do. It's starts spinning at half throttle in 1st and drifts into 2nd. When it hooks in 2nd the front end lifts(not something a bike this heavy should do) and you start to crap yourself. The acceleration is confusing up to 130mph.

Great fun..or science BW ! ....torque will make something move, hp will continue that acceleration and importantly power to weight will win if both machines are about the same power.. beautiful illustration of physics Northover bros 🙂

Now a Triumph Speed Triple 2017-19 is the correct one for me. As for Ducati I would take the 2018- 1299 Panigale R with the Superleggera package. While I am a genuine fan of the Triumph Speed I will always be a loyal big 4 Rice Burners rider. They just make the most reliable and reasonably priced Sport bikes and sports touring motorcycles. Either of the two bikes that I mentioned will smoke those paper weights your racing. But what I drive will too, Kawasakis Z H-2 ! Oh my gen -1 BUSA would likely be a looking at you in my rearview mirrors as well. Both are flashed or have Healtec fuel mgmt systems . Great job and stay up on two wheels or One if you're a squidster!😮😂

Yeah I think a mashup between the MT-09SP, 890 Duke R, 765RS, Z900, Monster 937, GSX-S750 would be interesting, in any order. The Yamaha V-max would have been the only other runner in this group today, but it's not for sale in Euro5 spec.

@@exothermal.sprocket I don't want to mess with political disputes, and I do care for trees. Fact is, they sold less than 10 units of the ZX-14 in my country in 2019. It is completely pointless to axe this bike. Same for the V-Max. They are just cutting down on dreams and legends, not on pollution.
