I own an Smcr and the Ducati really doesn't excite me that much, especially for the cost. I will have to have a spin on one and see what I think. I feel like the electronics are the main sellpoint to try and ease you into sumo riding, especially with the slide control, but for me its far too expensive for a bike that lets face it, if you ride it properly like a sumo you will slide it down the tarmac at some point. I also think that 77hp at the loss of some torque was purely to say they make the most hp 😂. I love the savage nature of the 690, it is out the crate a weapon once you bin the emissions crap and I just can't see the Ducati topping it, it seems like more of a poser bike to me. Loving your opinion though, I don't think we will get a proper match until it gets a map and the emissions crap removing. Looking forward to hopefully seeing that from you in the future chops :D

Super excited about this bike and like others have mentioned, I've been waiting for your review knowing you're a person that enjoys the supermoto platform. I wanted to point out that the lack of bottom end torque is also caused by the oversquare design of the super quadro engine (massive piston with very short stroke). Panigale's and Streetfighter V2 suffer from this as well, they're dull on the low end but past 6-7k rpm they really wake up

Nice one Chopsy. If it’s taken from the old big L twin then perhaps it also has the same characteristics, only halved, plus additional equipment to meet Euro5, which the old engine didn’t need to meet. So power and peak torque will be higher in the rev range whilst having the stuff to choke the engine to meet the current emission standards. So a tune and freer flowing system from intake to exhaust will make a difference, just be wary that you will be tossing the warranty into the garbage bin.

My WR250X has the same issue - it has very little torque down low, but it has a very high redline and that's where it makes it's power. Not sure if it's related but like the Mono engine being supersport derived, the WR's engine is based on the R1 block so maybe theres a theme...

If you are toying between one of these and an SMCR let me give you some advice. Buy one of these. I never thought I'd be looking at Italians for better reliability or customer service but they can't possibly do worse than KTM. I'm just about to scrap my 2020 SMCR, bought new, with less than 2500miles on the clock, due to a cracked cylinder head, broken head bolt, absolutely atrocious (to the point of being dangerous) gearbox, and even worse dealer network. The gearbox issue is a widespread problem that you won't find many KTM fanboys...KTM or their dealers admit. I suspect the engine problems aren't just a one-off either seeing as I saw another 2020 bike being broken with a 'blown engine' while researching how much I'll get for the parts from mine. As for the dealers. It spent 2 summers awaiting repairs and communication, both times, were unbelievable. One involved a 120-mile round trip to see them face to face after weeks of nobody returning calls.
@churchofbrap8768 ай бұрын
Your experience certainly sucks. But my 21 SMCR has been problem free so far and it's one of my favorite bikes. Ducati is giving the Hyper a 2 yr warranty though, and longer service intervals, so it has the edge there.

@@grenphelps7455 it's a nicer finish than the one on my 690, and that one hasn't corroded. I keep it clean though and don't ride on the crappy winter roads because of the salt.

Amazing how supermotos have come on,my Honda FMX650(FMF headers,Dynojet,K+N)is flatter than a witch's (.) compared to even my CCM 644,these are on a different level! I wouldn't pay extra for those graphics or those late '90's painted wheels...Termignoni is the price of a High St abandoned shop up here! Gas Gas 700 the best value, that's too pricey
