Hi. 73.000km on mine. Mts 1200 enduro. I travel on it around Europe once a year and then use it on weekends. Not as a commuter. I am satisfied with it and it keeps running really smooth. It actually uses less oil the more km it has. Only problem that I had which is not mentioned by others is that moisture under the seat caused the wiring plug under the pillion seat to melt and the bike to stop. I found it myself as i was traveling at the moment. I attached the cables each on its own without the plug and bike worked fine ever since. Just came back from the trip so it will go to the dealer to get it fixed properly.

Hi Trevor, in small part due to your reviews of this bike I actually bought one last week. 2018 1260S. I've driven it around a bit already, and I must say it is an enchanting bike. There are some aspects to my '13 1200S that I prefer, but overall I think that for the majority of bikers this would be the preferred one. I hope I have as many enjoyable miles on mine as you have on yours.

@rs8197-dms Жыл бұрын
@@MouldyPIX I spent a lot of time on the fuel maps of my 1200, so one of the things I really enjoy is very good torque from 1500 rpm (including the ability to increase revs under load at 1500) - this makes pulling away very effective, I have probably twice (or more?) torque (at 1500) on the 1200 than on the 1260. Also, the behavior of the engine all the way to about 3000 rpm is quite a bit better than the 1260 - but I suspect that if I could edit the fuel map of the 1260 I could probably correct this. Unfortunately I can't seem to source an ecu programmer for the 1260 that won't cost the earth. Another thing is the handling of the bike - it is more neutral than the 1260. With fast direction changes, you have to put some effort into the 1260 to get it to swing across, with the 1200 it is completely effortless. (this one is probably the biggest plus of the 1200) The seating position on the 1200 is different - the bike is a bit taller, and it is completely natural to sit right at the back of the driver's seat. With the 1260 there seems to be a bit of a slope, and I find myself sometimes sliding forward towards the tank. That doesn't happen with the 1200 The original windscreen on the 1200 wasn't great, but after adding a deflector screen it is near perfect. This is an unfair comparison, because my 1260 still has only the original screen - I believe I am going to have to add a deflector screen, I noticed on the last ride that I had several insects on my visor, with the 1200 I almost never get insects. However I must add that the 1260 original screen is a lot better than the original on the 1200. Another unfair comparison - I have shorty levers on the 1200 which are magnificent. The 1260 still has stock, I am going to have to change them The mirrors on the 1200 are a lot better than the 1260. They adjust easily and accurately - the 1260 is a bit weird. Seat replacement / refitting. On the 1200 the seat is really easy to fit, perhaps I will get used to it but I found fitting the seat on the 1260 quite tricky. Just to be fair, here are the pros for the 1260. Brakes. The front brake on the 1260 is really very good. The 1200 is fine, but the 1260 is noticeably better. Engine at revs. the 1260 is more free-revving than the 1200, and that is very enjoyable. Slow speed balance. The 1260 is very good. I can stop at an intersection, and then put my foot down - and I can do that nearly every time. The 1200 is not as good - you have to focus at slow speed. Cruise control. The cruise control on the 1260 is better than the 1200. Really good. Fuel consumption. I can get 5L/100km fairly easily on the 1260, with the 1200 I would get 6 driving the same way. Vibration. Although I have managed to eliminate most of the vibration on the 1200 by adjusting the fuel map, from about 175 kph and up I still have vibration. The 1260 is better. Gearbox. The gearbox on the 1200 is very good. On the 1260 it is near perfect. Lights. The headlight on the 1260 is superior to the 1200 switches. The switch layout and action on the 1260 is much better than the 1200 Throttle. The throttle is slightly lighter on the 1260, and that is a good thing. Suspension. Although nominally they both have skyhook, the suspension on the 1260 is noticeably better. Actually very good. Display. Obviously the TFT display on the 1260 is better than the LCD display on the 1200 Settings. The 1260 has more setup options than the 1200, and some of them are really useful. Going through the comparison, it is clear that the majority of the advantages of the 1200 are due to mods I have made. If I regress the bike back to standard, there are far fewer advantages and many disadvantages.
@MouldyPIX Жыл бұрын
@@rs8197-dms great insight, thanks for that. One of the major changes they made with the 1260 was to lengthen the swing arm (by 50mm I think!) and also slightly alter the rake. Both changes are to increase higher speed stability. But the trade off is to make it slightly less flickable.

Fork seals will not leak from not changing the fork oil but you will wear out the bushings inside the fork tubes. The seals do not eliminate microscopic dirt from being sucked into the forks. Fork oil will allow tiny dirt particles to accumulate on the tubes and due to fork stroking the micro dirt gets sucked in past the seals and dust caps. After 35K miles if you open the fork after removing the fork slider you will see actual black mud. On inverted forks, its even worse because that mud sits on the bushings and seals and not at the base of a slider.

I’ve run Michelin Road 5 & 6’s on the bike ever since I bought it. The Pirelli Scorpions were awful (IMO!), so I would have no hesitation recommending the Road 6’s or Road 6 GT’s. However I’m just about to post up a short video on the Michelin Power 6’s which I fitted recently - now done 500 miles of dry running and I absolutely love them. Very different to the Road 6’s which is a bit of a surprise. Keep watching, I’ll try to post up in the next few days to explain why! 👌👌

Hi Chris, no the Speedo remains accurate however you do need to run “tyre recalibration” function within the TFT menu. This is mainly to teach the quick shift that the ratios have changed. Simple enough to do, just follow the on screen instructions - which basically asks you to travel at a speedy 24mph in 2nd gear until it’s successfully calibrated.

I’m on 46,000 miles on a 2012 1200S. Ohlins front seals were weeping when I bought it at at 17,000 3 years ago so had them replaced before I took delivery. Battery at 27,000 Brake pads at 32,000 The crimped connectors on the relays needed attention at 40,000. A valve in the exhaust started sticking at 45,000. Mine lives in central London tied to a lamppost with a big chain and a cover. I get it serviced once a year, wash it twice a year, and ride it nearly every weekend. Ive looked to change it - but nothing is as exciting to ride - and the low trade in and higher insurance for newer bikes just makes it non sensical to update. I’ll probably keep riding it till a bill comes up which is worth more than the bike. Then sell it for bits on eBay. Have no clue what I could replace it with. The GS is capable but dull. The XR is great but not as wild as a Ducati. The KTM GT is awesome but not as reliable. So it will probably be another secondhand Multistrada in another year or three.😊

Hi Trevor, had 2 multi's in UK (1100DS + MTS 1200GT) both great bikes with big miles on then moved to Spain and bought 1260S 2018. Have 38K on it so far Portugal, Morocco etc and it does everything well...perhaps a bit of oil and chain tightening occasionally but otherwise not missed a beat. Problem comes, looking round Ducati dealership in Alicante, they also service for me , spotted new V4S and it all starts...shall I or shan't I. Bikes here seem to hold value more than UK so that helps BUT why have Ducati changed to create a more off road bike with the V4S. It's enormous for a short arse like me. Low seat plus lowering kit cost big so I might just keep the 1260S which does it all. What do you think....the V4S is enticing though!!
@MouldyPIX Жыл бұрын
Hope you’re enjoying Spain! I’ve just come back from a trip earlier this month on my 1260s to the Catalonia/Aragon area. Loved it! First time for me in that area. I did the Picos down to Faro and up the Portugal N2 route last year and visiting again down to Sierra Nevada area in September this year. The Multi is so capable in the mountains, never missed a beat and perfect bike for me. I keep looking at the V4S, but if you’ve owned a twin then the V4 just feels like it’s missing a bit of soul, if you know what I mean. From a performance point of view I rode with a chap in the Vosges mountains last spring and the two bikes were identical in performance and handling…and he could ride!

Hey Max, good to hear from you again. I mentioned in one of my earlier videos that I’ve switched from the OEM setup of 15t/40t to a 15t/42t configuration. The 42t rear sprocket makes a lot of difference in the low speed riding around 30mph. Previously, with the 40t, the bike was hunting between 2nd and 3rd gear. Now with the 42t the bike is very comfortable at 25mph in 3rd! Also the 42t pulls noticeably harder, but you obviously lose a bit at the top end. It doesn’t really affect me as I’m not a balls out speed demon! Hope that helps..

I had a 2015 Aprilia Caponord and I loved it but had a problem with lead foot (rt hand) disease and decided to trade it in for a 2015 Norton 961. The Norton although a beautiful and created alot of dialog, power and fun factor wasn't even close to the Aprilia. But I've been looking hard at those 1260 Ducati's because the price has come down "round these parts" and I've seen some good deals. I ride a 2009 BMW GS 1200 right now and like it fine except that it's got no cruise control. I'm an official senior citizen now with all the benefits, get the senior menu at the pancake house. The only drawback to the Duc to me is the chain. I rode Japanese super bikes for several decades with chain and no cruise control and never thought once about it. Then I got my 2013 BMW R 1200RT and got "spoil t". Yes the Aprilia had a chain but I only rode it about 3k and then sold it so I didn't have to mess with it. I would probably also have to get a lighter color on the 1260 so as not to draw so much attention. The Aprilia was fire engine red.

Hi great watching your videos, I've got a 1260 touring, I'd like to ask you if you find the tourarech seat comfortable..??as comfort is my only issue with this brilliant bike.. thanks Gary
@MouldyPIX2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Gary. The Touratech seat takes a bit of perseverance and time to break it in. Once it has moulded to your back side then, yes, it’s very comfortable!

Hi Mate just wanted to ask my 1260 enduro is poor in town does the rear sprocket change make a difference?
@MouldyPIXАй бұрын
I’m not sure what the sprocket set up is on rye Enduro, but the standard 1260s is 15/40, I added two to the rear (42 teeth) and it made all the difference. 👌

Hi. I stumbled across this video on account of my research into the 1260s. I am, as I write this, awaiting for my second hand 1260s to be prepared for handover by Ducati. This will be my third Multistrada. I had a 1200s, a standard 950 (which I didn't like) and now a 1260s. The 1260s will now, probably, be my last motorcycle and a keeper. Regards tyres, I really rate the Scorpion Trial that they come with. My new bike is coming with Road 5s already on so it will be interesting to see the differences. My question (and I'm not sure if you're able to compare) but you mentioned your friend has the 1200. I remember that bike well. I am told the 1260's torque has been reconfigured over the 1200 to come in much lower down the rev range. In your experience, is there a noticeable difference between the two in this regard?
@MouldyPIX Жыл бұрын
Hi John, thanks for getting in touch…and welcome back to the Multistrada family! 😉. From a number of dyno readouts that I’ve seen the 1260 engine has slightly more torque than the 1200 and also has a slightly stronger torque curve from 5000rpm. A close friend, who has a 2017 1200s, rode my bike and he commented that the 1260 has a stronger mid-range compared to his. It seems that there’s a slight flat-spot in the mid/lower rpm torque curve on the 1200. But I would be interested in hearing your opinions once you get your 1260. As far as the tyres are concerned I think you’ll find you’ll be very happy with the Road 5’s…! 😉

Hi. Take the whole bike suspension to K-tech or similar specialized shop and have them at least change the suspension oil properly every 25-35k miles and the suspenders will live "forever". Point being, it does get worn, contaminated and if the oil gets old enough and there is fair amount of wear inside suspension, it gets suddenly a lot worse. And You are accustomed to what ever state the syspension is by now.

My Fork seals needed replacing recently so I took the opportunity to overhaul the front suspension. All is good..👌 However I still haven’t had to, or needed, to do anything with the rear shock…

Sorry to hear that Chad, I’ve had no issues at all with the gearbox itself, however I had to have the quickshifter replaced under warranty.

@@MouldyPIX good to hear. I bought my used 2019 1260S with 4000mls a few months ago. Almost immediately went on a tour through France to the South Coast of Spain. 3500mls. My backside took some punishment. Strangley though it seems to have now moulded to my posterior and seems comfortable. The test will be my next tour.
@MouldyPIX2 жыл бұрын
@@PaulWilliams-ex5bo I think that’s the answer. It is initially a hard seat, but as you say once it’s moulded to your shaped backside then it becomes much more comfortable. I can usually go 2.5 hours now in the saddle before I have to stop. Also keen to here a bit more about your trip through to Southern Spain. I went earlier this year and thought it was awesome. Started from Santander through Picos down to Salamanca, Seville, across into Portugal and then up the N2 road to Chaves and then through the Asturias region back to Santander. So good that I’m going back next April again! Albeit experimenting with some new roads curtesy if some advice from Simon Weir!

@@MouldyPIX Hi, this was an trip to a friends in Mijas, Spain. Nothing planned. We'd ride and then when got tired decide how much more we wanted to do then get on to Trivago and book a hotel within that time scale of riding. I can't remember exact roads but boy did I have some fun riding through the Pyranees. Couple of places of note. Pau in France. Nightlife and food marvelous and Siguënza in Spain. Stayed at the El Mirador de Alcuneza. From the outside it looks like something from the wild west. As I didn't have time to sort a din to usd for the dash I had to charge my phone under the seat. Problem was I kept riding off with key still on the lock. Once it dropped out and luckily found it undamaged in the gutter. Put a lanyard on it after that but hey ho what did I do stretch to reach my helmet whilst key was to in pannier and it snapped in it. 🙄 luckily there was enough left to turn and remove the key with nail clippers for the rest of the trip.

Hi Mark, I’ve got a Nelson-Rigg tail bag, which stops to the stock/standard GIVI/Ducati top box mount. It’s a fab tail bag and doesn’t fade at all when exposed to direct sunlight. Had it 2 years now and stills looks the same as new!
