The Rally tank is much slimmer than the 1260 Enduro tank, yet with the same capacity. Ducati achieved that primarily by dispensing with an outer cover. From the rider’s seat, the Enduro looked very similar to the girth of the GSA. There are numerous chassis and suspension differences among the V4S, V4 Pikes Peak, and V4 Rally. The Rally has also been toughened up, making drops much less of a concern (e.g., no expensive hand guards with turn signals; the addition of metal mounted reservoirs). As for reliability, I’ve put many thousands of miles on the variants of the last two generations and on the current Pikes Peak with NO service or repair issues, and the mileage (fuel economy and tank range) is on par with the GS. The estimated range (20 liter tank) is always 223 miles, and I believe one could stretch that if needed. Just as with any high powered bike, you can shrink that range considerably if you up the pace. (There should be no difference in range between touring and sport mode. The modes have more to do with throttle mapping.) The routine service interval is now 9,000 miles, which is incredible. I traveled a lot on the 1260 Enduro, including over mountains in sleet and high winds, and never had the slightest feeling of being on the edge, or of running out of power to deal with the wind or with overtaking on uphill. That bike just ate up the miles, day in and day out. As others have noted, Ducati managed to get the weight of the larger, spoked wheels (on the Rally and on the Desert X) LOWER. They also incorporated a preload release system to make mounting, lifting off the side stand, and dismounting easier for a wider range of riders. The rally is simply an engineering tour de force.

All the pros and no cons... Have you actually rode this bike??? The mirrors are the number one thing that will either be badly damaged or completely break off on a drop why didn't they make them steel or something tougher than cheap plastic??? The CAT on this bike causes major issues between 4-6k RPM with the bike jumping back and forth this is solved just from removing the CAT. The rear brake is a joke, does almost nothing at all. No Apple CarPlay and Android Auto but instead were stuck with garbage software that is blatantly terrible. This is a 30k touring bike that doesn't come with tire pressure sensors stock, WTF??? No keyless gas cap stock so why exactly is the ignition keyless???
@bsmukler Жыл бұрын
Yes, I have ridden and owned several variants, including the current Pikes Peak. The software interface works fine with my iPhone 14 Pro. There is no roughness or hesitation at any engine speed, as far as I can tell. The mirrors appear to be metal mounted, and could be turned inward for tough off road use. Just as with other optional equipment, the keyless fuel cap is an add-on, and is clearly delineated in the specifications. What I meant about the mirrors and hand guards is that previous generations had turn signals integrated with the hand guards which is no longer the case. Watch Big Rock Moto’s or other journalists’ videos of the two-day shakedown ride in Colorado if you want an idea of how these bikes fare off road. I’m on my third generation of Multistrada, and this one is a major step forward. I suppose the price could be a con, but it is considerably less than my last GSA, fully equipped.
@glenns001 Жыл бұрын
I like this bike, but i find it hard to believe its fuel economy is the same as the GS having way more power more like a sports bike?
@bsmukler Жыл бұрын
It probably has more to do with the HP and torque curves. If we’re talking about basic highway cruising, you’re nowhere near the high performance portion of the range of the Multistrada. Also, I believe (not positive) the rear cylinders deactivation also works during low-load cruising. I’m getting just over 40 MPG in mixed use.

The spoked wheels are actually 3,1 kg lighter than the ones on the v4s. They are also lighter than the alloys. I have ridden mine V4 Rally 16000 km and can honestly say that a full tank doesn´t make the bike feel much heavier. It´s like magic. I have previous owned KTM 1290 SA, BMW 1250 GS and Ducati V4S, so I can really compere them. Have driven all theese bikes +30000 km each and made long trips to the alps, Pyreneés and the Balkans fully loaded. The V4 Rally is superior in comparison.

Interesting you repeatedly referred to it as the ultimate hooligans Adv Bike… I haven’t ridden the Rally yet, but have spent a bit of time on a V4S, and I own a 21 1290 Super Adventure S. There’s no doubt the Ducati is the more refined and luxurious bike, and though the 1290SAS blows a GS into the weeds for high speed performance and stability, the Multi is just that little bit better again (for a lot more money). But the KTM is quite a bit more raw I’d say, more playful, more of a hooligan. The Ducati isn’t so refined as to not be playful, but whilst it’s certainly easier to ride at ludicrous speeds (better brakes, suspension, that counter rotating crank all helping more here than an extra 10bhp) than the KTM, the KTM is only a few % behind in that respect but IMO the grin factor is bigger on the KTM. KTM wins hands down in the low speed handling/agility test too with its ball bag tank, making it feel almost as agile as a GS at low speed.
@LambChopRides Жыл бұрын
I did a back to back with the 1290 Adventure and others. Your right 1290 is more raw but I found the V4S the best handling package

Few questions from an 1190 adv s owner debating which new bike to get. 1. If both bikes were same price which would get? 2. Does your 1290s wobble at any speed? 3. How does wind protection compare on mv4 vs 1290s?
@riggsyb Жыл бұрын
@@jonasbaine3538 1. If both bikes were the same price, then I’d probably buy the Ducati. It’s the “better” bike by maybe 5%, but the reality is it’s 40% more expensive to buy and run than the KTM so I’ll keep my KTM… 2. Most of the wobble issue seems to come from loose headstock bearings, stock tyres, or too little preload. My headset bearings have been adjusted correctly, I’m on Metzeler Tourance Next 2’s, and I run 40% preload solo, 50% with luggage, and don’t get any issues, but did with the stock tyres. 3. Can’t say I noticed one being better than the other in this respect. V4S is miles better than the 1260 Multi it replaced though. Stock KTM screen isn’t amazing, but there’s loads of really good aftermarket ones or just add a Givi spoiler like I have to smooth the airflow over your helmet… 👍🏻

Because we don't know.. you only know that by owning a motorcycle and every manufacturer has some horror story out there on the Internet. My personal view is Ducati are one of the best on reliability, I would have no issues buying one. I also think the dealers deal with problems very well. Just my thoughts on the matter but nothing really to back that up other than stories you hear like everyone else 👍

It's a bit difficult to assess reliability on a one day test.

I'd rather have a reliable bike with a 1 year warranty than any unreliable one with 4 years.

Stunning looking bike, sounds amazing , Not for me the cost and the fuel consumption 😢, Think you like it a little bit 😊

Beautiful bike....but boy is it expensive. I would hate to drop it in the dirt.

Yes indeed.. but so good!

Great adventure bike but where I live this bike is 10.000,- euro's more expensive then the KTM 1290 Adventure S! That plus it uses 50% more fuel then the KTM makes this bike obsolete and is the KTM the winner. The Pikes Peak edition is a road bike, nothing allroad to it because of the 17inch wheels and single sided swinger with cast wheels.

One question: What is that bike just out of shot in the intro? @0:44 My goodness, that's a sexy ass. Not yours Chops, the bike.

Im afraid of actually test riding one ..I think I’d be walking away with one 🤔..

i'd do it. i've tested the '21 V4S the year it came out at a ducati france event. its by far and large the best bike i've ever been on. if i had the cash i'd buy the Rally version in a heartbit. i've settled this year for a '22 890 Adv which is more in my price range. but IF i'd came upon enough, i'd sell the ktm instantly for this.

Why do these company lead riders in test videos often feel the need to ride so fast on public roads, especially when the test is of an adventure bike. We all like to push it sometimes when conditions allow but it makes me think they are just showing off. Look how good a rider I am, how fast can go!

Each to their own but I’m not a huge fan of these massive adventure bikes. As 90% won’t leave the UK or see a dirt track anyway. 🤔
@riggsyb Жыл бұрын
Ride one… I wasn’t either, until I rode one… They’re just so much better than anything else on the road for most typical UK riding I find!

So the purpose of the review was to compare the rally with the standard V4S and the main difference is a 30l tank! So you eulogise just how like the standard bike it is and mention in passing you rode it with half a tank of fuel (5 litres less than the std 20l tank) so you never tried it with the tank full and your conclusions of the differences are meaningless!

Seriously? Why would you want to ride an adventure bike like a hooligan? They are not designed for riding to the max, but mile munching across all terrain, well nearly all terrain.
@LambChopRides Жыл бұрын
Depends what you want from a motorcycle. Some want comfort, distance ability & something sporty to do it on! Yes other sports touring bikes can do that too but adventure bikes offer the most comfortable riding position imo
@riggsyb Жыл бұрын
@Retirement_Life why would you not want to…? They are epic fun! Like a Super Naked on stilts, but far more comfortable too… With modern Adv Bikes like the Multi V4, 1290SA, Tiger 1200 etc… You can have your cake and eat it basically!

Does it really matter if it is or isn't at its peak price? Depends what's more valued to you...the money or the feeling it gives you in ownership/ riding/ having in your garage.
