Great video ! I changed out my battery to a BS lithium, the thing weighs only 2.1 pounds. When the box arrived, it felt like it was empty. Lithium batteries are incredible with a massive weight savings as an added bonus.

Yeah but the problem is on this bike the 1198 the battery gets to hot. Lead acid batteries handle heat better.

Great advice, brother!! I'm going to order a battery for my 1200s monster this week

Thank you! I hope the battery swap goes smoothly!

I put the big Noco 500 cca LiFePO battery in a 2014 KTM 1190 ADV based on a review on Amazon. That year bike is notorious for slow starting to begin with and so far it took care of that issue. I still plug in the tender 2-3 times a week for a few hours. Meanwhile, my cheap lithium ion battery is going six years strong in a KTM 690 SMC lol. It starts like a dream after sitting for months. Some of the big twins just need more attention. Haha.

I wish I could find a 500cca battery that fits the 1198. I'm sure that would really wake it up!

How's the upgrade on the starter side cover been done?

Another great video. Thanks.

Your bike sounds loud ! Mine sets off car alarms. Does you do that ?
@ZEEK38JACK2 ай бұрын
I think the no neutral light gave it away when you first started it.

I see bottom out marked on fork tube. 👌

How did your battery turn out is it working properly after 8 months?

NIce video... little info on the starting... you don't hold down the button on that model... might have to get that battery on mine
@PracticalEnthusiast10 ай бұрын
This bike requires holding the starter button.
@shanemartinson500610 ай бұрын
Must just be the 1098 you don't hold it down then

Could've been. My Multistrada 1200 had the one touch start function.

How did you get it home?
@PracticalEnthusiast11 ай бұрын
I got a ride home where I got my truck, then loaded the bike in the bed with a set of ramps. Times like that definitely makes it worth it to have a truck!

how did you get home with the duke dead?
@PracticalEnthusiast11 ай бұрын
Loaded it into the bed of my Tacoma.

Did you ever seal your tank or ran into issues (swelling) due to ethanol?
@PracticalEnthusiast11 ай бұрын
I haven't sealed it or had swelling issues luckily. I make sure to fill it with non-ethanol gasoline.

Hummmmm… I don’t like how this bike is starting. I have a my2012 1198SP without the hi cap cables that I have still uninstalled and it starts better. What you (and I did) can do is go a little lower in the viscosity of the oil. Here in spain we run the 10w-60 with great results and less drag for the starting mtr.
@PracticalEnthusiast10 ай бұрын
Interesting. I'll have to check that oil out.
@PracticalEnthusiast10 ай бұрын
What brand of oil do you use? I'm using Motul 300V 15w-50.
@monzajunior73379 ай бұрын
I understand why you would want to stick with 300V, but you could drop to the 0W-40 if you wanted easier cold cranking@@PracticalEnthusiast

I use 260A cranking power for 1000ds, starts like Japanese.
